Question About The Use Of Guaifenesin While TTC

I have noticed in more than one thread the mention of using guaifenesin while TTC. Would someone explain to me further how this works and when it is recommended that it is taken? I am trying to figure out how this works - I always thought that using an expectorant when you have an upper respiratory issue was to thin out the mucus - - so I am trying to figure out how it could product more mucus for the purpose of ttc. I know I must seem dense for not getting this so if anyone could explain that would be so helpful!

The theory is that it thins the cervical mucous hence making it easier for the little swimmers to get through. Does it work? who knows...does it hurt...no.
