Hi all, I'm due february and am happy about it. I'm over 40 but really optimistic and feeling great so far. The only issue is my running. I run about 3 miles a day and can't think of giving it up, thought was given many explanations as to why its not a good idea. any advice? comments? experience?

Hey micci - I am 42 and LOVE RUNNING too - it's the best kind of buzz around....right now we are almost 5 months and I am still jogging - my friend lent me her "belly band" and it's really helping with the support. She ran until she was 8 months. From what I understand = women like you and I are okay to continue because we have a foundation doing it. My doctor says you don't want to start a new program - that's the key. He also said "listen to your body" - if you get tired one day - stop and turn it into a crisp walk. That's what I do and it's working really well - GOOD LUCK!

Hey redmondsky, this is encouraging though I have to admit to a more complex scenario. I have 3 wonderful healthy kids. 33 week to my first pregnancy, I was sent to bedrest for 3 weeks due to early cervical shortening (which in 1/3 of the cases leads to preterm birth) and my baby was full term. 28 week to my 3rd pregnency I was to bedrest forever (two months) with the same diagnosis. I was overdue, no contractions, no nothing, and eventually had to be induced... I really don't know what to make of it, neither does my dr. In most cases early shortening is a normal progression of pregnancy and I feel I should go on running for my sanity (at least during my first trimester.) i'm just so tormented by the thought that it might be that my mechanism is a bit crooked and running in that case can accelerate things...anyways...i'll keep at it for now and see how it goes. Good luck to you tooo

HI Micci-has your doctor recommended a cervical surclage? I'm only 24, and I have been told since I was 15 that I have an "incompentent cervix". They told me that I would have to be on bedrest if I did not have the surclage placed (I also like to run). I'm in my 8th month, and still go for walks (not running anymore). Just a thought, it doesn't sound like your case is as bad as mine though.
