Thanks to all who responded to my sleeping question. I am still having trouble but have a new question. Is it really bad to sleep on your back when you are pregnant? I have been told to only sleep on my side. I can't do it.. I am miserable. I am finding myself waking up in the middle of the night on my back. Has anyone heard this can be harmful to the baby? or is this just an old wives tale? Just wondering.. smiles, Cissy

wedge a thick pillow under your side / back area - as yes sleeping on your back after 20 weeks is bad for baby - left side is best.

for circulation, the left side is best as sleeping on your back can compress your nerves and bloodflow from the weight of the baby & placenta. I wake up with such a sore back in the morning that I have to lay on my back with my knees bent to stretch things out for a while!

I had a similar problem to yours. I could not lay on my left because as crazy as this sounds, I get migraines if I sleep on my left. I told the doc this and he said to try to make a conscious effort to lay on my left with a pillow wedged under my back when I am watching TV and such. I was still waking up on my back in the middle of the night, but then there reached a point at which I could no longer lay that way and naturally turned to my sides. I am currently 36 weeks and cannot lay on my back for anything! The doc said that as long as I am on one of my sides I am fine, but obviously, left is best.
