I'm currently 11wks 3days pregnant and have been on metformin since last July. I just had an appt with a reproductive endocrinologist and he told me to stop taking them as baby is doing great. (I am not diabetic - just have pcos) Has anyone else out there stopped taking it as well? I'm surprised that the dr told me that I could stop them "cold turkey" and not have to wean off like you have to gradually go on them...any advice? He also told me there'd be no side effects of going off them either. Please let me know.....Clare

Hi Clare,
Im into my 6th month of pregnacy now and almost 38 yrs old. I took Metformin for my PCOS as well, a slight difference though, I went off it cold turkey due to losing insurance coverage. I hadnt even known I was pregnant untill I was well into my 4th month. I read the warning signs on a drug information site I Googled about the meds I HAD been on, scared of the outcome they might have on the baby, after I learned of being pregnant. And none were recommended during pregnacy. Because of my lack of periods for over 14 yrs, my doctor is just estimating about how far along I am based on measurments of the babys head etc. So we arent really sure if I was pregnant while actually taking the meds or not,,,but for what its worth, I did not have a single side effect after stopping the meds cold turkey. And get this,,,during an ultra sound I had in the ER,,,I was informed I no longer had cysts on my ovaries. So hopefully you will have the good luck I did and the Metformin worked while you were on it and you might not need to resume it after the baby comes,,,lets cross out fingers!! Good luck in your pregnacy!
