This Was Freaky Need Reassurance

I don't want to scare the stuffing out of anybody, but I'm 47 and pregnant for the 6th time. I've heard every horror statistic that I'm supposed to be at an increased risk for...including the possibility of maternal death. Now, I might not have been so spooked about it had I not read in a local paper that a 22-year old woman died in childbirth a few days ago at a local hospital. That did it...my risk factor seemed to multiply by about a bzillion (in my head). What do you think could have happened to cause the death of this young woman? It's awful. Sometimes it just seems like all I'm hearing is a bunch of negative news.

if you watch the broadcasts of news there is another woman currently in us being kept alive to deliver due to malignant cancer,any person can have pre existing conditions that are not brought to light until being in the hospital and the stress of labor and deliver can be a cause if she had a heart condition or high blood pressure, just because we're over 35 doesn't mean we're doomed during childbirth take care of yourself and your baby, that's your #1 priority. i'll be 38 and have had a normal pg so far at 27 wks

Wow, I think you are a super mom. I thought I was doing well having my fourth at 35. I think all pregnancies are scary, but you could be hit by a bus tomorrow even if you were not pregnant. So rather focus on the excitment of this new baby and stop listening to the bad things - we have also heard about the woman being kept alive- we are in South Africa, but think how lucky the baby is if everything turns out ok. Confused, if you've had other normal pregnancies, odds are wayyyy in your favor for still another boring, uneventful birth. How many people do you know who died in childbirth or had a handicapped child. It happens, but MOST are normal. I've had six miscarriages personally, and three normal, healthy, boring births. God takes care of the situation, if you let Him. So relax. This will be a great time for you both!!!
