I will be 12 weeks pregnant on Monday September 25th. Yesterday I want to the doctor and received all my bloodwork results everything was good. I being very nervous asked for a toxoplasmosis test about a week ago not because of anything in particular but because I felt it would be one less thing to worry about. I have never lived with cats in my house or changed a litterbox. Well yesterday he said the IGG was 32.5 and the IGM was Indeterminate at 0.9. He was not concerned but said that he was sending me to a maternal fetal specialist to be safe. He said the test is sensitive and did mention the lab in Palo Alto, CA. He kept telling me it would be fine and he did not feel I should be worrying. He told me Toxoplasmosis is very rare in pregnancy and to just relax. I cannot help being nervous but from what I read the high IGG represents past infection and the indeterminant IGM is most likely a false positive because you cannot have a past and a current infection. I am going to the specialist on Friday and I hope she will have good news for us. I am having a sono with her too and then I assume they will draw blood and send it to Palo Alto but maybe she will be able to interpret the results we have to give us good hope that it is a false positive based on the IGG result. Also I have read on here that in some labs the 0.9 is negative on my test results it says less than 0.9 is negagive, 0.9-1.0 is indeterminate, and that greater than 1.0 is positive. I welcome your comments and prayers this is my fourth pregnancy and I am 39. I will pray for all of you as well.

Your doctor is right taxosplasmosis is rare..yet being cautious is sometimes the best way to rule out problems...especially when you want the best for your baby. You are doing the right thing. Many people would not bother with this test feeling they were immune. Many women can pick this up without owning a cat or ever changing a litterbox in their life. Often eating meat that has been undercooked as well as gardening without gloves or eating veggies that have not been properly washed can lead someone to pick up taxplasmosis. You can never be too safe. I don't want to scare you because again it is very rare, but at the beginning of the summer there was a lady on the evening news who was warning of the risks..she to did not have a cat or had never changed a ltter box..and was shocked that she had contracted it. Her son was later diagnosed with a form of mental retardation. Being well informed and testing..is the safest way to alleviate problems such as this. I will be thinking of you ...and I wish for the outcome of your results to be negative. All the best...I am sure you will be just fine!!Kristin
