Week 33 Sudden Weight Gain

I have gained 10.2 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I'm still eating about the same, and drinking mostly water. Only about a pound or so of that should be the baby. I hope this isn't going to go on for the next 7 weeks! Are any of you experiencing a rapid weight gain this far along?

You doctor may say something at your next visit. How far along are you? I am 31wks and my doctor has put me on bed rest due to pre-eclampsia. My BP is fine, but I have protein in my urine. I lost 8 pounds my first week of bed rest due to fluid loss. That was a good thing, so I'm thinking you may be having some serious fluid retention going on depending on how far along you are. Rapid weight gain could also be a sign of gestational diabetes.

My doctor just told me to watch what I eat! She said that my urine looked fine and the baby measured good. I pa__sed my last sugar test for the diabetes too. I don't know what's going on. I'm trying to cut back a little on eating, but I really haven't been eating any more than usual.

I'm also on my 33rd week and although I've lost weight the last 31 weeks I've suddenly gained 8 pounds just these last 2 weeks!!!Like you, I'd been eating the same amount as usual but drinking like a fish!!!! I'd just been to my doctor's and everything looks fine--baby, urine, sugar level etc. He told me though that the baby gains about a little over a pound a week and this is the time when we have the most amniotic fluid. From hereon the baby will take over most of the space in the placenta and will only be gaining fat until born so I don't think our weight gain will stop :(. Fortunately, it's not that long anymore....

Rapid weight gain, esp in final weeks, could be a sign of preeclampsia or high BP or both. Have your BP checked, tell your doc you are concerned, and monitor what you eat and how much fluid you drink and how often you pee (any changes in urine). When your BP goes up, your kidneys become less efficient, spilling protiens into your urine, or you start retaining fluid (hence rapid weight gain).
