Hi,
We conceived right the first time after deciding to let nature take it's course. I am 37 and would not have ever dreamed of being pregant within the first month (not even attempting to get pregnant!). I have always had an irregular cycle, but the test is positive. This is my first pregnancy. I know I am so lucky however: I was not taking folic acid for the first 3 weeks, I had 1 to 4 beers (light) per day during that time, I took twice a level C drug (migraines, Zomig), a daily a class B.
I am so affraid to have done major harm. Of course I have stopped all the bad stuff on the day I realized I was pregnant, but isn't it too late?
Would like to know if I really messed things up.
Thanks

i wouldn't stress over it as long as you are taking care of yourself. things can go wrong in even the most ideal situation. most of the time, it doesn't though. sounds like you're doing what you need to do now ... that's all you can do.

Luna: I too was concerned when I first became pregnant. We had just decided the month before to let nature take her course and BOOM...pregnant the next month! I am 36 and this is my first baby. Although I took vitamins regularly before I became pregnant, I also drank a gla__s or two of wine every night with dinner. When I found out I was pregnant, I stopped with the wine and went through a period of wondering if I could have harmed the baby (I had also taken 600mg Ibuprofin a few times for headache). The good news is that I am now almost 23 weeks pregnant and everything seems to be progressing normally with our little one. Kato1265 is right...now that you are doing what you need to, try not to worry too much. Also, if you don't already have the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting", I would highly reccomend it. It addresses the issue of alchol consumption before you found out you were pregnant as well as many other issues that you will be experiencing. Good luck to you and congratulations!

I think the problem is consistently drinking or taking harmful things throughout the pregnancy. But you're not doing that. Your body probably absorbed most of what you took in anyway before it got to the baby. Not taking folic acid has no affect. Taking it is just helpful. The baby should be perfectly fine. Don't stress over it. Besides, I don't think there are many people who had the folic acid ready to take that soon unless they were focused on getting pregnant.
