Hi! I will turn 45 in August and am due in January 2009. Our daughter will be 18 when this one is born. I was on the pill so this was quite a surprise! Hope everyone has healthy pregnancies and a healthy, happy baby!

Hi, Kimcat...I will also be 45 in August and I am almost 11 weeks pregnant. It was a shock to both my bf and myself and our baby is due in Feb 3. I have a daughter who is 16. We haven't told anyone because we want to make sure the baby is healthy before we start telling our kids, friends and family.

Does anyone have symptoms that are there one day and not really there the next? I am 7.5 weeks pregnant.

Hi Maho,
Funny you should mention symptoms fading in and out one day to the next. I was just going to ask a similar question myself. I will be starting my 10th week tomorrow and I am starting to feel like I am not pregnant anymore. The crazy hunger, nausea and extreme fatigue has started to disappear. I am starting to feel a little bit better day by day. Some days I am bloated and my regular clothes are too snug, and other days I am not bloated and my clothing fits me comfortably. I was supposed to have a doctors appointment next week, but I moved it to this week just to make sure that everything is okay. I wish we had a little window in our bellies so we can take a peek inside to see what is going on.

Hi Dogmom, Maybe b/c your so close to your second tri, your symptoms are starting to disapate? Let me know how the Dr.'s apt. goes. I don't see mine until the 29th which at that point I will be 9.5 weeks. I know we are both on our first pregnancy's at 37 years old - right? Let's keep each other in check:) Good luck.

Hi girls- I have read that symptoms can come and go throughout pregnancy. Welcome kimcat and plynn and congrats! Well, I'm off to my screening and should find out the s_x, I'm scared but excited!

Maho,
Yes we are both 37 and first time prego's. I did some online research to find out why my symptoms have eased up. I read that at 9-10 weeks the placenta takes over for hormone production where before that our bodies were responsible for the hormone production. I will just have to try to concentrate on work to take my mind off it. When I called the doctors office today the receptionist had me laughing.....I explained all my concerns and she said "okay so your feeling a bit anxious". That was putting it kindly. Before I became pregnant seeing a doctor every 4 weeks would have seemed like a pain in the b___t....now having to wait 4 weeks inbetween appointments seems like an eternity.

Hey dogmom- my doc has me coming in every 2 weeks rather than 4 weeks b/c I'm so scared/worried/neurotic. Maybe your doc can do the same just to hear the heartbeat? It also gets better after you start feeling some movement. Well I found out that it is definately a boy!!! We are sooo happy! Everything looked good, but they did see a very small spot on the liver (echogenic foci) which will hopefully be nothing. The doctor wasn't worried but I will be going back between 28-30 weeks for another scan to see if it has gone away. I'm trying not to worry too much about it. How is everyone else doing? Colleen

clindholm, I am glad your appointment went well. If the Dr. does not seemed concerned about the spots...I would not either...don't worry yourself. I know, it's easier SAID then done. Dogmom, Thanks for the info about the hormones...sounds logical. I hope you both are feeling well.

well I am 45 and waiting to see if we are pregnant. I have a 24 yr old,21 yr old,15 yr old and a 19 month old. This will be the last. We felt that it would be unfair for our 19month old not to have a brother or sister his age, so we are trying again. Alittle worried about my age, BUT my last pregancy was wonderful, not one problem, except my gall bladder, but other than that it was great, the last one in my 40s was far better than the one in my 20 and 30. so people who are worried please dont it adds stress and you know what i think that we all are in better health and that they need to update the satistics because i think it is better to wait, and i have been on both ends and I think it is far more easier at this age, than in the 20s.

Hi Alley and welcome! When can you test? How long have you been ttc? I agree that the stats cannot be as bad as they portray them. Unfortunately, I am just a hopeless worrier by nature. My last pregnancy was pretty rough but I'm optomistic that this one will be smoother. Baby dust to you! How is everyone else feeling? Colleen

Hello everyone. I am 35, will be 36 when the baby arrives. This will be our 3rd. We have a 3 1/2 year old boy and a girl who will be 2 in August. I am a little nervous b/c I just got back the results of our first sequential screening test and they came back with a 1/44 chance the baby could have downs. Now I am a nervous wreck. I would like to possibly do an amnio but am worried about the risks. Also, my doc is sending us to a genetic counselor. Is this just standard for women over 35? And what about the results? I read that false positives are common. I guess I should wait and talk to the dr, but just want to see if anyone else went through this too.. Thanks!

CaMomof3- I replied to your other thread. The genetic counseling is always a part of the screenings and should help to narrow down your risk. You should have a 2nd tri screening at 18-20 weeks that will be a little more accurate. As I said in the other thread, I had a Trisomy 18 scare with my last pregnancy, long story short, she is perfect and we did not get the amnio either, we were too afraid to risk the baby. I truly feel the risk by age ratio is b__wn out of proportion. Remember, these are NOT diagostic tests. Btw- I had my first at 37 and am now 39. Good luck, I hope your case is the same as mine- they are wrong.

plynn47414, It's always good to know of someone else in a similar situation. It may be a mistake but we have already told everyone. It's so much fun to see the shocked expressions on their faces! lol
I was 14 weeks on Tuesday and we got to hear the heartbeat and even a few sounds the doctor said were baby kicks. I am scheduled for a Level 2 ultrasound on 8/11 and can't wait. I hope you are doing well, too.
