Congrats to Maidencanada! Dina - how much over 40 are you? I am 45 and ttc. We got preg. after 1st mo ttc, but I miscarried. We are now on mo. 3 ttc after miscarriage. Maidencanada - it gives me hope to see women over 40 getting pregnant.

Ladies - I didn't have troubles getting pregnant at 38 and 40yo (and having children), BUT I've just been diagnosed with Grave's disease and am on my way to get radiation treatment. After that you have to wait for at least 6 months before ttc. SO I am set to start ttc next fall - can't wait. Love being pregnant, love having full house. However, after radiation... and 42 years old... We'll see.

Dina,
I am 47 and trying to conceive my 5th child. Had a miscarriage several months ago but will continue until mother nature makes me quit. I had several miscarriages between my 3rd (at 40) and my 4th (at 43) so don't give up! It can happen. I know how despondent you can get when you keep miscarrying. I wish you the best of luck and the same to all the the 40 somethings out there TTC.

Renee- Good to hear of someone 45 or older ttc. How many m/c did you have between 3 & 4? Also curious, was #3 a boy?

Kim,
I had 3 miscarriages between 3 and 4, 1 between 2 & 3 the one 2 months ago. #3 was a girl (as was 1 and 4). #2 a boy. Do you have any or are you trying for your 1st? My doc said that even though a miscarriage, it was still a good sign you can still conceive. I keep my fingers crossed :~)

Renee - I have a 6 yr old son. I m/c first of May. We are now 3 mo. ttc. The one m/c was so difficult, I don't know how you dealt with so many. My hubby and I visited a infertility specialist this week and was very disappointed in his lack of any hope since I am 45. He gave us the stats - 5% chance in any month, and 50-60% chance of m/c. Then proceeded to talk about donor eggs. I think we just sit there holding our jaws. After we left the office we cried all the way home (3 hrs). We have done a lot of praying, and soul searching. That is why is was great to hear from someone my age that has been successful. We got pregnant the first month after we got married, and even though it ended in a m/c, I still think our chances are good. Thanks for the motivation!!!

I am 41 and live in Vancouver, Canada. It took 5 months for me to conceive the first time and I miscarried at 10w in July. I conceived again after 3 months. I will be almost 42 when I give birth. We can concieve at our age!

I certainly think 45 is not too old to conceive, I was forever inspired by a woman giving a talk in my business cla__s who had grown up children, remarried and got pregnant at 47 (that was a topic aside, not the main topic of presentation:-). At the time of the talk she was 49 with a rumbunctious 2 year old. I think it may take longer for some to ttc, for 20-somethings it takes, too, a wild difference of time to conceive. On a separate note, I lived in Vancouver, Kitsilano, from 1996 to 1999. Beautiful city!

Hi Ladies,
I am 40 and currently 5 weeks pregnant after 1 year ttc. I could use some support. I went for my second HCG test today and was told that the numbers are not quite what they should be.(on the 28th it was 980 and today 2200) I did some reading on it and some sources say that it could be ok but combined with some old blood showing up when I use the progesterone....I am freaked out. Now I have to wait until Monday to see what the next results are going to show........

Britta, I definitely know how you feel. Going through the HCG testing and having iffy results, then sitting around waiting and worrying. It is the absolute worst. I did it with my first 2 miscarriages and with the 3rd an ultrasound found a low heartbeat. I started out so happy only to have to wind up sitting around waiting to miscarry. So painful! When I got pregnant with my 4th child I didn't go to the doctor for the first time until I was 12 weeks because I just couldn't bear getting possible bad news again. I wish you the best and hope all turns out well for you.

Hi ladies! First of all best of luck to all those trying to conceive! I will be 42 Jan. 17th and have a 25-month-old little boy and we're trying for #2... Can anyone tell me what the chances are of conceiving for ladies at 42 (per month, if bedding was done at the right time?). I'm hoping we did it during the right time (day 12, 14, 15, and af is due Jan. 2nd. ANy encouraging words? We're on month 5 ttc.... do we 40+'s women have a much lower egg count? TXS!

Hi, I'm 39 and trying to conceive #4. I'm taking vitex and just hoping for the best. I've used clomid in the past and not wanting to try that again for fear of multiples.

Hi Dina,
I am 40 and ttc. I just 2 weeks ago had SX to remove my right tube after my pregnancy turned out to be ectopic. The drug (methotrexate) did not work in desolving the cells and even with close monitoring and initial good looking HCG levels the damage to my tube was too much to save it. So after 1 year ttc having to go through the whole thing was just awful. But, I am determined to make it work. I am pretty sure we will move on to IVF to beat the odds.
