Stay away, I had Shingles and it isn't pleasant! It's dangerous for pregnant women.

Shingles is contagious..especially if you have not had chicken pox before. I would not take any chances on contracting this and endangering the health of you and your baby! Take Care Kristin

You should stay away from your friends mom while she is suffering from an outbreak of shingles. If you have never had chickpox you can contract it from someone with shingles and chickpox during during pregnancy is very dangerous. Shingles can only occur in people who already had chickpox. Shingles during pregnancy isnt dangerous just very uncomfortable. The virus that causes a shingles outbreak is the same virus that caused you to get the chickpox years earlier only it has been dormant in your body until something triggers an outbreak. But with shingles, your body has antibodies and is immune to chickpox and these antibodies are pa__sed on to your unborn child. I suffered my first outbreak of shingles when I was pregnant with my first child (I was 19 years old!) and today he is a healthy 19 year old. I am pregnant now with my 6th child (15 weeks) and have had 2 outbreaks of shingles but I know my baby is protected by my antibodies and everything shows the baby is healthy. BUT again, if you have never had chickpox, stay clear of anyone with chickpox or shingles!
