It is very normal to be scared of labor. How far along are you? If you are in your 9th month, you know that every day is like a week. This way the nature made sure that the fear of labor is replaced by an overwhelming desire for it to be over finally. For pain, ask for epidural, you won't feel the pain anymore. Dont' be afraid to be short of breath - your body will not let you, and there will be well qualified medical stuff with all you may need during labor. You won't die. It's a natural thing. That's the price we pay for having children. It's well worth it.

Hey Shiela- Have you talked to your doctor about taking meds for your OCD? You will probably still have the natural fears of delivery, but meds may help you to not obsess about them. Good luck!

shielaeaton, As soon as I read your post I saw BIG RED flags about your OCD. First to address the pain issue. There are great drugs out there. I hear that woman feel very little with these numbing drugs. I didn't use any I was so happy to be having a baby a few years ago I wanted to experience all of it. After it was over the first words out of my mouth were "I could do this again." Secondly, the OCD. After I had my son, I suffered from post partum OCD. It was horrible. I went on an anti depressent for a year and I was fine. It was all due to my hormones being out of balance. It really was scary. I kept having uncontrollable thoughts of hurting my beautiful little son who I love so much. I knew I would never hurt him, but I was so scared of the urges and the thoughts would not stop. Thank God for the medication! It started as soon as I brought my son home from the hospital. Are you on medication now? I know some women are duing pregnancy. If not I'd start right after you have your baby. I'll keep you in my prayers.

shielaeaton..I think many of us are/were afraid of labor & delivery. It seemed that there were several shows on when I was pregnant telling of women who had died during childbirth...I was terrified! My hubby helped me through it by stating the reality...in this day and age, the likelyhood of dying during labor & delivery is very slim. As far as the shortness of breath...the first time I experienced this when I was pregnant I thought I was going to die or that something was seriously wrong. I called the doctor's office immediately only to be told that it was normal. Needless to say, I thought the people at the doctor's office were completely off their rockers!! How could not being able to breath properly be normal? As the preganancy went on though, I found that it was normal because everything was getting compressed by my growing baby. The good news is that I not only made it through the shortness of breath, I also made it through the labor & delivery...my little girl is now 9 weeks old and it was all worth it. I agree with the others about the OCD...you should check with your doc to see what meds you can take while you are pregnant to deal with this disorder - it will make a huge difference. My brother, who also delt with OCD, says that the meds made all the difference for him. Hope this helps.

thankyou for all your responses. i feel better. AS for the ocd i will be seeing my docter shortly. I get really bad thought and images that wont go away. I was on prozac before pregnancy and will not go back on until after delivery. I guess the fear of labour is natural. thanks again
