hi, i'm very new here....anyways, i am close to 13 weeks pregnant with my #2....i am soon to be 38 and this pregnancy is very different with my first...My dd will be 8 this year....With her very easy...no morning sickness...spotted twice but thats it...plus, easy pregnancy and delievery.. Well, the second was a surprised...After trying...well, not using anything and just praying that if it was God's will to get pregnant, we would accept it...Well, God answered my prayer....I assumed it would be easy...Not really....Been having bad sinus congestion which led to a viral lung infection/asthma...required me to stay in hospital for 5 days...up to 6 weeks till 8 weeks..spotted almost everyday..nothing scary but very unusual for me....Then at 11 weeks and 4 days, had spotting again......then bled....nothing major but bright red....The baby is doing great...spotting finally stopped...no more blood but dry blood.... Well, just last week went for another appointment...doctor did a u.s. and said baby looks good etc etc...then out of the blue...asked me if I thought about amino?....no pre test before or special scan..but straight to amino...I kept asking her...why do you see something wrong...She said no but your age is a disadvantage....BTW, we are military and live in Germany....wonderful doctors and we always get U. S...anyways...been debating whether to get it done... Already made a appointment to a specialist who does that and highly recommanded...But just weird how she bluntly came out and asked....she said, its my choice...etc etc...I still this child is a gift from God...and in heart i feel comfort that my child is healthy....both my husband and no history in either family from a long generation every having any problems...I told her that...she said age is on my side...... I'm scared but at the same time...feel still this a blessed child...But i still think of the whatif...if i don't take it..then i will worry...and if i did take it and they found something what would i do..and if i do take it...and comes back okay....i will feel i could breathe...so many questions...another...i realizes the older i get the less tolerate in pain i am.....i'm scared of the procedure and what might happen and miscarry...etc etc...BTW, my dh is deployed so its a huge burden trying to decide...and all that I went through..Thank God for great friends..but still hard tyring to not worry and doing everything by yourself.... Anyways, i am opting to take it just to get it over with....praying so hard that God gives good news and that i will no longer face a bumpy road...i am scheduled to go on a cruise around 5 month pregnant...worried heck, the whatif happens... any helpful advice..and did doctors usually come so forward like that...from talking to other older moms...they say its procedure..but their doctors never really bluntly asked them...and gave them the comfort that if they didn't have any problems or genetic in family...it will be okay not to take it....my female doctor just bluntly told me...thats why i keep thinking did she see something that might give her some worries.... What to do?? BTW, my amino is scheduled feb 27th... thank you

I became pregnant at 39 for the first time and was also practically INFORMED I would be having an amnio by the office nurse pract_tioner. I asked about the "other" tests (I was such a novice I didn't know the names, cvs, etc) but she kind of railroaded me into the idea that the amnio was the thing us "old" mother did. I had it done, it was scary I will admit (didn't hurt that much but I watched the needle like a mother hawk, the dr was a real pro though) but it was also a relief when I learned everything was just fine. I had some spotting the next day and that alarmed me but since you know already that many women spot during pregnancy, if you do it won't alarm you.I can say now that if I were to get pregnant again and the dr told me everything looked ok on the ultrasound, I would probably skip the amnio myself. I think the reason they push you past the earlier tests is the expense. The amnio is more certain than the early ones and so why do the early ones, get a false positive and then do the amnio anyhow. Good luck and let us know how it all goes.

Yep, same here, just was recommended the amnio, I didn't know much at that pont, had never read any baby-related stuff at 39. So I went and had the amnio, that was no prob, got to know the gender and that she was perfect, so the rest 22 weeks didn't have worries. Had amnio with the second one, too, 1.5 years later. I personally don't see a big deal about it. However, your constant spotting (did it stop after 8 weeks?) What was that about,?and would the amnio cause something that it should not in this case? - something to ask the Dr.
