Hi all...hope everyone is doing good. I just had my 20 week u/s yesterday. Wow! It's amazing what docs can see on u/s these days! We were not only able to see that all of her organs were there & functioning properly, but were also able to actually see the bloodflow through her heart & the rest of her body. Absolutely amazing! It showed that she is 20w 5d & her hearbeat was around 150. As a bonus, the doc also did some 4D pics of her beautiful little face. We are soooo excited. Hope to hear from the rest of the you who are having u/s in beginning of Feb to see how they all go.

Hi everyone. Miraclebaby, to answer your question about heartrate, it was kinda funny. Doc had a brand new ultrasound machine and we got to hear the heartbeat, but he didn't know how to turn on the counter to tell us the rate. It was fast though, like galloping horses. We didnt' find out s_x at the last ultrasound, we want to be surprised..........

Hi ladies, I hope everyone is happy and healthyl I haven't posted recently because I'm a sad and worried. I had my 20 week ultrasound last week and they found a cyst on babies brain. They say it is very common but it can also be a marker for trisomy 18 and downs. They don't thing trisomy 18 is a problem because there are no other markers but I'm really worrying about downs. I turn 40 next month and I just can't get the idea out of my brain. Anyway, I've decided to have an amnio - now I'm worrying about that. Sorry to be on such a downer - that's why I haven' posted. Keep your fingers crossed for my bub.

Miraclebaby...Congratulations! Glad to hear all is going well with you and the little one. Have you & hubby started with trying to find a name yet?
Kathy...I know it's easier to say than to do, but try not to worry too much. If the dr is saying that it is common, chances are everything will be OK. Although there are some risks involved w/amnio, your chances are very good that everything will be fine (just make sure the dr. has performed a lot of them before you). I had a CVS -which is riskier than an amnio - and didn't have any complications at all. Keep your chin up and know that you have pleny of people to talk to on this forum when you're feeling sad & scared - a lot of us are going through/have gone through the same thing you are now.

Thanks Toni and Miraclebaby for the positive vibes. I have made an appointmen for Wednesday. I'm just wishing time away because I want it to be all behind us and to know that everything is fine. I had what we call a nuchal translucency done - I don't know if it's your triple or quad. My results were good at the time but that was before they found the cyst. That has altered the results by about half. I waver between being extremely confident things will be fine and, well....... I'll let you know how I went.

Hi everyone - good news!!!!! I didn't end up having the amnio because we had a really long talk to the doctor who was going to do it and she told us that in her opinion this had nothing to do with downs, and reviewed our last scan and agreed that everything on it was normal. She even rang my OB to ask why she told me that the cyst altered my risk for downs. My OB said she was satisfied that perhaps she wasn't up to speed on all the latest research regarding these cysts. I nearly collapsed with relief! The doctor I spoke to also said that they could see the nasal bone on that scan - apparently this is a relatively new finding that helps rule out downs. Has anyone else heard about this? Anyway, we are both so relieved, now its happy tears and not sad. I cried so much yesterday that my head hurt......now I feel I can relax and really enjoy my new bubba.

Kathy: That's great! I'm glad to hear everything is going well with your little one. Do you know if you're having a boy or girl? Or do you want to be surprised?

Hi Toni1, thanks, yes I am so relieved. No, we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. We had a surprise last time and it was wonderful - a little girl! I was convinced I was carrying a boy. This time I have no idea, but just love the anticipation. How about you?

kathy: We're having a girl. I thought about taking the "surprise" route, but thought it would be easier for me to know something for sure since I worry so much about all of the unknowns. It has also made it easier for us to pick a name - I didn't realize we would have such a difficult time agreeing on one. lol

Congratulations on your little girl. I was so thrilled last time - we were hoping so much for a girl but I think we didn't want to believe it could actually happen, I was just overwhelmed when she was born and I could see that she was a girl! I was too scared to say 'it's a girl' in case someone told me 'no, it's a boy'. We are hoping for another little girl this time, so lets see how lucky we can be. Our eldest is a boy, he's 3.5 and we adopted him from Korea. If we have another girl this time it takes away (to a certain extent) the risk of comparison that people inevitable make between adopted and bio children. I mean, he's our special boy and they wont be comparing his looks to a bio son. Having said all that, if it's a boy it will be just wonderful too and we will overcome those comments as we go! Good luck, buy plenty of pink ;-)
