I am 37 too. My baby girl had the same spot on her heart and I worried for no reason. I did the amnio, just to be sure. She is fine and completely normal. It is nothing to worry about it. Don't worry.

We had our second ultrasound today. I am 23 weeks. Our baby's heard looked fine. The spots are still there and the dr explained that 5% of all babies have them and that 10% of all Down's babies have them. I agree, from all of these posts I think we are all worrying for nothing. There is always the possibility of something else being wrong that an amnio can't pick up such as autisim. We just have to take the chances. 30 years ago they had none of these tests! My thoughts are still with everyone and I'll keep checking back here. I will post after baby is born 4/29!

A while ago I posted that my AFP test came back with low levels indicating a risk of 1 in 175 chance of downs syndrome. We then went for the ultrasound where we learned about the echogenic focus on her heart, it scared us to death. With that development her chances went to 1 in 74!! She was born on 12/30 she is beautiful and healthy! She went full term and weighs 6lbs 7oz and she is perfect! The hospital even let us leave early so we could celebrate the new year at home. I HATE the AFP test and I wish they would either eliminate it or improve it. It caused no end to our worry and anxiety and I know what all of you are going through. Put your child in God's hands...he is faithful. Happy New Year and dont worry!

I am 28 yrs. old and 20 weeks pregnant and had a level II ultrasound on Tues. and they found a spot in the heart. My AFP test came back normal and my dr. said not to worry. We keep praying we will have a healthy baby. This is my second child. We will not be having the amnio. My dr. also said no furthur tests need to be done. We are so nervous!

Hi Patty , yes we are going thru the same thing. My daughter Melissa is 20 weeks, pregnant in,2 weeks ago she had a ultrasound and she was inform the her daughter had (2 calcium deposit) in the heart. her blood work came back negative. but still they offer her the amnio which she has opted also. My daughter is 22 years old. I have a niece the went thru the same thing She had a baby girl and the baby is fine. thank you

I too had the same results this past week in an u/s. I'm 35 and 22 1/2 weeks pregnant. I've all ready had a level 2 u/s purely because of my age and I was very dissatisfied with the experience so am declining any further tests. ( I had to drive 2 hours for the level 2 to arrive there and find out they had scheduled an amnio after I had declined it in writing. Compounding the problem AFTER they performed the level 2 they told me that I wasn't far enough along, at 16 weeks, to tell much and that I would have to repeat the test in another month. As far as we were concerened it felt like this was at worst motivated by money and at best they were suffering from very poor communication skills) My husband and I sat through the genetic counseling and our chances are only slightly increased for ds at this point. Obviously I was still concerned about these results but I'm choosing to ride it out. I've talked to two women that I work with that had false positives for downs with an amnio. So the best tests can be wrong. I'm going to leave it in God's hands and love my little boy no matter what. And I'm going to try my BEST not to worry myself sick. :)

Hi! I am 33 y/o and Filipino and My husband is a White American. We discover our baby has a white spot on his heart on my 20th wk. The MD say it is a very slight risk for Downs but because of my age and Im Asian I better reconsider having amnio. I give thanks to his message board and because Im a nurse I didnt take the risk of having an amnio but I just have my faith in God. I just gave birt last December to a normal health baby boy.

I am 17 1/2 weeks and my baby has this. I am not even getting the AFP test because my Doctor said there was a high probability of a false positive since I am 36. Teh doctor that did the high resolution ultrasound and saw the calcium deposit said since that was the only thing that showed up, he thinks it is just a normal variant and that the baby is fine. But I would love to hear from anyone who has had this happen and has already had their baby. THANKS Joy

hi Joy, I just wanted to let you know that I went through the same thing... I was 18 weeks when the dr said that he saw the white spots on the heart and that it is a soft marker for downs..but he also said that it could be a variant of normal . (there were no other markers,) . i was so nervous and worried . I had another ultra sound later on in the pregnancy and the spots were still there.. and the baby appeared to be healthy , i still was worried ... now i have a totally healthy 3week old baby !! I hope all goes well for you and that you try not to worry too much ( i know it is hard to do ) kari

tanya - January 18

Hi JOy. My baby had tthe same marker...she was born on jan 5 and is completely healthy....she also had dilated kidneys which is another marker but that had corrected itself at birth. I worried my whole pregnancy and evertything turned out fine...good luck to you!

Joy - January 18

Kari and Tanya, Thanks so much for responding. I appreciate your stories. I'm very optimistic. My mom and mother in law both reminded me that back when they had us, they didn't even offer ultrasounds!!! Haha Thanks a bunch! Joy

I read through all these posts last night and just want to ask if anyone knows what happened with Vik and his wife? He posted on 9/25. I'm worried sick about them and could not find any follow up posts.

my daughter just got results from doctor with 2 calcium spots on the heart of the fetus. they said the other tests were OK but of course by the tone of her voice she is worried and so am I. I will read all the below in the hopes that it is possible there is not a problem. she is not due until june and does not want to run the risk of an amnio.

i am so happy for all that have healthy babies and wish all the same results
