Hi everyone! Im 20 and pregnant with my first baby which is a little boy. So far i have had several ultrasounds done and all of them were fine up until a few days ago. I am now 22 weeks and they told me the seen an EchoGenic Foci and were sending me to a specialist. My blood work was all normal so they said the risk for DS is real low. I dont go to the specialist till next week and im freakin out thats all i can think about. Ill love my baby just the same if he does have DS but i found this sight and i thought i would get some input from other people who are going through or have went through the same thing.

ashleybrooke, try not to worry! I know it's easy to say. My case is similar to yours. I had my blood work negative and I went to a level 2 u/s where they saw the soft marker in my baby's heart (by the way, I am having a boy). If they didn't see any other marks then you shouldn't worry about it. Did you do the nuchal translucency? I just had the quad screen. Try not to worry and have faith! I am due on August 1st and I'll keep you posted! Rachel

Hello Everyone! This site is sooo comforting... I am 24 and pregnant with my first baby I had an US at 19 weeks and they saw the white spot on the heart. I freaked out because NO ONE said what it meant. My doctor scheduled me for a fetal echo and an level 2. I just had the level two at 21 weeks and the doctor told me everything else looks great but the spot was still there. My little girl is developing on target. My blood work came back Negative so they said "worry less" I have the echo on August 19 and Im going back for another level 2 on August 24. I will be praying for ALL OF YOU. Perhaps this is something that will make us stonger and also better mothers.

kimb,
Your story sounds so much like mine. The doctors told me the same...seeing the u/s they said my baby girl was developing normally and everything looked good. My blood work came back negative as well. So, unfortunately now its just a waiting game unless you do the amino. My doctor advised me against this b/c she said everything else looked so good and I only had the spot on the heart. I wish you the best. Keep us posted on your visits. I'm due in 7 weeks, so I can't wait to see my baby girl. I know how tough this is, but just keep the faith that everything will work out. Best, alic

Hi all, it was nice to log on today and read everyones post. I am 32, pregnant with my second girl and I went for my first ultrasound at 20 weeks where the tech told me that I needed to come back in two weeks because she couldn't get a good picture of the heart. I went back this morning and they told me they found an EIF. Of course, i freaked. My OBGYN wants me to have a level 2 ultasound. I didn't have the quad screen, which I wish I did now, since if it came back negative I probably would be feeling a little more confident. The good note is that they didn't see any other markers. The worse part is that I have to wait till August 16th to go. It is going to kill me the next three weeks.

Hi, I just wanted to post that at my 18 week ultrasound they found a spot on my son's heart (echogenic foci). I was not very high risk, so after much anguish I deceided not to get the amnio and just hope for the best. Though the odds were with me I was still worried through my whole pregnancy. Well he was born one week ago today and is perfectly healthy. Echogenic foci is a normal occurance and I wanted to write to ease some peoples minds. I know I constantly searched for stories where the babies were ok! Good luck to everyone with their pregnancies!

Beachbaby,
Congratulations and thank you so much for posting your results! Its so nice to hear happy endings. I, like you, opted against the amino since my risks for DS were so low, but I'm so anxious to see my baby girl. I'm due in 5 weeks, so the final countdown is on. Thanks for the hope! I wish you and your family much health and happiness.

Same story as most of you. Especially MKAMMAN. I went for a u/s two weeks ago, and the tech and doctor told me they couldn't get a good picture of the heart and to return in two weeks. Went yesterday, and they found a spot on her heart. After meeting with the genetic counselor, I decided then and there to have the Amnio -- even though my Nuchal Fold test and AFP were negative for Downs. They really scared the poo out of me. Ten minutes later, I was on the table with the doctor shoving that needle inside my stomach. It really wasn't that bad, and didn't take more than 5 minutes from start to finish. I just wanted to be prepared, no matter what happens. They did a quick test, which should have the results to me (God willing) by tomorrow afternoon. It's called the FISH test. Hopefully, it will be good news and I can continue to be happy and celebrate this little girl. But this thread has given me a lot of hope. A lot.

Hello everyone, I really appreciate reading everyone's input. My husband and I heard the same information this week about our little girl. I'm 35 and will have the baby when I'm 36. I know now the only thing I can do is to pray to God about this situation. And of course I will continue praying for you expecting children soon.
I would love to hear from Patty. Where are you?

Hi I am new to this forum and would appreciate all the input that anyone has on the "white spot". I am 17 weeks pregnant and due to an abnormal AFP test had a level 2 u/s done today. The doctor found the spot but said that everything else looked "perfect". I am 30 years old and this is our first child. We have decided against the amnio for fear of miscarriage. Should we be really concerned? thanks!!

Sbeth --
I don't think you have anything to worry about. This has happened to so many people I've met, and no one has had a bad outcome. It's really RARE that there's a bigger problem. Especially if the baby is a girl. It seems to show up more if the baby's a girl.

Thank you so much for the rea__surance. Our gut feeling is that everything is fine too. It helps to hear from others in the same situation though. Obviously the amnio test is something we dont want to do because of the risk..but is there any other tests that you know of to determine if there is a problem? Just to ease the mind a little more :) thanks
