I posted my story back in September shortly after we found out our baby had an EIF as well as a choroid plexus cyst on the brain. I hadn't even heard of these markers before and I prayed for the health of my baby everyday. We saw a genetic counselor which in my opinion, didn't ease my mind at all. Anyways, on January 29th, I delivered a VERY healthy baby boy (9lbs. 9oz.!!) He is doing very well, and we are so happy. Now looking back it really frustrates me that the doctors are obliged to tell you this info. I spent half my pregnancy worried sick about the health of my baby. I was very happy to have found this site because many of your stories rea__sured me and helped me enjoy the second half of my pregnancy. I hope my good news will be a comfort to all of you out there waiting for you little bundles of joy to arrive. Take care.

I posted my concerns back in Jan 27th. Since then we had our 2nd visit w/ the Fetal Med Specialist and have 1 more follow up w/ our Pediatric Cardiologist on Wed. Our follow up w/ the fetal med Dr. went well. Our baby measured perfectly fine and tho the 3 spots were still there he sid we had absolutley NOTHING to worry about. His little heart is functioning normal and je is kicking away. We don't have to go back again since everything is going so well. I'm now almost in my 3rd Tri and happy again:)
I know that it is only natural to worry, as this whole diagnosis is so scary but, please try to stay positive and just enjoy ur pregnancy. As all the other posts have said...just the EIF's alone are not enought to diagnose Downs, and w/ the Level II U/S they can see alot more in babies development.
In the meantime I am glad we have all kept this thread going for all the others who need rea__surance. I will keep everyone posted.
Best Wishes Ladies:)

Hello All - I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I am going to be 32 in May and am 21 weeks pregnant.
I have just had a scan and they found a plexus cyst on the baby's brain (which we had seen on an earlier scan), but also now a white dot on the baby's brain. I have been so so upset and in tears all day and night and dont know what to do. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or has been in a similar situation . thank you all in advance. Nikki

Hello, I am at 19 weeks, 4 days and I had an u/s today. Like everyone here, the u/s tech saw a "bright spot" on my son's heart but there are no other markers for Downs. I took a lot of time and read through all of the entries here and I have not found one person who has given birth to a baby with Downs or any other abnormality, am I correct? I am going to take that as a wonderful sign and try not to worry for the next 20 weeks! My baby does not need my body's stress level to rise, so I am determined to stay positive and pray! Those are the best things I can do for my baby now. Thanks everyone for your positive stories, I am so grateful I found this forum right away to ease my fears.
By the way, what ever happened with Patty, the original person to post way back in June 2005??

FIRSTIME,Dr's offices usually only give 2 U/S during pregnancy, but if u don't feel comfortable w/ that then def go get another one. At 20 wks my OB sent us to a fetal med specialist after seeing the spot, but I hated him and wanted ANOTHER opinion so I went to a Pediatric Cardiologist my friend reccomended. If ur Dr. doesn't help when u ask for another U/S just look up a Dr. from ur insurance and go to either type of specialist. Mine did not require a note. I actually just told them that I didn't feel comfortable w/ my last Dr and wanted another opinion. U have the right to see a Dr. for peace of mind. NIKKIS---I don't know anything abou the cyst. Maybe there is another forum here for that if u search? I'm sure there is. But, I can tell u about the spot on the heart. TONS of women are seeing it in their sonograms daily. I just had both my followups and the Dr's said the baby is FINE. I'm now 28wks. I was terrified for so long, but everything that the others said in this forum is true. The spots are a VERY LOW marker for Downs. The specialist I saw said that in her 20 yrs of practice she has seen tons of these UNEXPLAINED spots and NEVER seen a Downs baby w/ just that as a marker. The correlation btwn the Spots and Downs is very weak these days, and most offices do not even make it a big deal anymore. I hope all goes well w/ the rest of ur pregnancy. I know right now it's hard to think positive b/c of the news but there are tons of great stories on this board:) Good Luck to u and ur baby. AMYN--- I'm not sure what happened to Patty, did she ever post her baby's birth? She probably never knew this thread would mean so much to so many people!!!!! Good Luck to u too. Like I said earlier. My Dr's don't even need me to come back to look at the spots again. The heart and all it's chambers and valves are funtioning fine and he is kicking like crazy:)

thankyou wailing for ur reply.i went to my doc on 14th and asked for the ultrasound but she said that my insurance wont allow me to have one ,and if if i want to have it done it would cost me 7to 800 $.but she also said that there is no need for that because its just a shadow and the heart is functioning normally,and no other markers were found,and shw wont recommend it.
so i think i would go with her advice,although it would keep me scared throughout the rest of my pregnancy..but i think keeping faith in god is now the only way left.
and hosna you shouldnt be worried at all because results of amniocentesis are accurate and they do give you peace of mind ,so relax and enjoy ur last two wks:
)
plus did anyone took the childbirth cla__ses,and are they useful??

Hi again to everyone. I just met with my Dr for the first time since the ultrasound where they saw the ecogenic foci and he said he sees about 6 cases of this "bright spot" per month and the baby NEVER turns out to have Downs or any other heart related problem. He is sending me for a Level 2 Ultrasound but I am looking at it like it is just a safety precaution. It will be fun to see my baby again! Don't worry everyone!! I'm not!

Hello, I am a new at this forum. I also had my 20 week scan last week and they found an echogenic foci on my baby's ventricle (heart) and it has also scared me to bits. We have opted out of the Amnio. I am 36 years old and this is my first baby, and am feeling quite nervous. Thanks for the inputs and this forum because it has made me a little more at ease,, although I think I agree with a few of you, until I see the baby I won't be 100% convinced. My next US is scheduled for 34 weeks, does that seem too long?? Good luck to all.

hi,i also had an US at 18 wks on which the doc discovered the echogenic focus,i was also worried but my doctor seemed pretty normal and she said that there is no need of another US .now i am 28 wks pregnant and didnt have 2nd US yet,and I dont think my doc would order another US till the 36th wk,which doctors do to see the position of the baby.
so keep ur spirits high and wish for the very best to come.
