Thank you ALL for sharing so much info and so much heart! It is so encouraging!
I am 43, in my 2nd (this one happy!) marriage, and between us we have 5 children (+spouses)- mostly nearly grown. We learned just months ago that we are going to be grandparents!! We had a surprise pregnancy with a MC last year. Awful. And we had settled into this "autumn phase" of life. Then, 3 weeks ago, I woke up with the "flu"!!
I am going on 9 weeks and 2 US have shown normal progress with FHM. We have rejected amnio/cvs/etc but are scheduled for nuchal trans. next month. I haven't heard of what most of you are talking about yet, but already the fear has begun. Your info and stories help me to refocus, not to feel so alone, and to remember that God is still watching over me and working out His plan! Even when I read the story of the dear woman who had a DS daughter, as I read I knew loving her would be so natural and every bit as beautiful as with a "normal" child. (After raising 3 teenage sons, I wonder WHAT "normal" IS!! LOL!!)
Thanks again. I look forward to hearing more...
God bless you all.

Hello everyone, Last week I recieved a phone call from the doctor telling me they found a "light spot" in my babys heart, so they scheduled me to see a maternal fetal medicine doctor next thursday. I am so scared of the possibilities of downs. I am 21 years old 1st pregnancy and very very scared, my Quad results came back negative, im just anxiously waiting for thursday. This website has really helped relax me a bit, however the worry is still in my thoughts.

Hi, I just had an ultrasound on wednesday and they told me the baby is in the 75% for growth and that everything looked fine except for the dreaded "white spot" I have been sooooo devastated since then. The doctor told me that even no other markers were seen in the US I still have a chance of having a baby with downs. I had the blood test done b/c she recommended it. Before this us i hadn't done any genetic testing or anything. I am 27 and 19 weeks along and I have to say that this forum has been the only thing that has keep me sane for the last 2 days. I won't know the results of my blood work till next monday I think. I have been praying for all of you and I just hope everything is okay. I need the support!!

Hello, I am looking for answers and hope that someone might help. At 15 weeks I had amnio and other blood work done, during the u/s they found a white spot in my baby's intestinal area. Wast told it could be d/s, but I would need to wait until the results. My results all came back showing everything was perfectly fine. I had another u/s a few days ago to see if the white spot had disappeared. I am currently 20 weeks. Unfortunately they found white spots wide spread around my baby's stomach, liver and below the heart area. They also found that my baby's brain may be malformed (possibly Dandy-Walker syndrom). They don't know if the two problems are connected. I met w/genetisis, he did not give us high hopes, he said that we had a 20 to 40% chance that our baby will even make it to full term. If it makes it, the baby will require various surgeries and a low chance of survival after the surgeries. They mentioned a "shunt" would be put in the brain and the white spots may be a perferation in the intestines. He also said there may be other defects that we currently cannot see. I have another u/s scheduled in three weeks. If things look worse, dr. said to consider termination. Has anyone heard of such of thing or ever been told of this type of disorder? My husband and I are so distraught, we don't know what to do. We want this baby soooo bad, but the last thing we want to do is bring a baby to the world to suffer and then die.

Hi Hope 22 and Salmabear, I also got the same news from the dr..3 weeks ago, he said that he found a white spot on my baby boy's heart. Since then I can't stop thinking about it. I am so worried. I'm 27 years old and due in May. I check this forum everyday because it helps me worry less. I am hearing all good results/stories that the babies were born healthy and perfect even with this soft marker. Please keep posting. I'll check this site everyday and will continue to give update as well.

Noni, just look through this site at all of the folks who had everything from the white spot to worse, and were fine, including our baby. Today's ultrasound technology lets doctors see things they could only imagine a few years ago. As such, anytime they see something new, they often have to guess at what it is and then inform you of their observation. Another friend of our family was told on several occasions that her baby would be born a blob and she should abort immediately. Knowing that life was from the Lord, she did not and ended up with a very healthy baby boy. If the baby is as bad off as the doctor believes, your body will do what it needs to when it is time. Otherwise, fight for that child's life like you would your own. It is your child, not a mistake, not a case study, not a statistic, but a gift from the Lord and is to be treated as such. You, your baby, and your husband have been added to our prayer list.

Hope22, Salmabear, and Maralou9, as Kathy1 posted on December 13, this "white spot" is presumably calcium and, given your ages, very little to worry about. Having gone through it at age 40 with the same marker shown very prominently on the heart, and ending up with our second healthy baby girl, my best advice to you is to pray about it and enjoy your pregnancy. For those still expecting, the moment of truth came for us in the delivery room when the baby was born and the dr. cleared her airway, she turned the most beautiful shade of pink, which was a great indication her heart was working just fine. As a follow up to our first posting a few weeks ago, when we were transferring our first daughter's sonogram video to DVD last week, we noticed the same marker on her heart. As she was born in 2003, I do not think the technician or doctor even knew then that this may be a marker for anything, so it was never brought to our attention. In retrospect, I wish the same was the case for our second child as it only caused unneeded stress. May the Lord bless each of you to enjoy a wonderful pregnancy and have healthy babies.

hi maralou09-i dunno how to tell u but pls do not worry-its most likely ur baby is just fine, i posted last month after getting a 1/70 afp & echogenic heart focus on u/s results-my doc told me not to worry at all-this are just risks at my age of 34 y/o & after getting an an mnio result of negative for DS i felt like i robbed myself & my baby of those precious weeks of too much worrying, now my doc nor midwife are not even mentioning nor concern about that heart foci since amnio is neg., they say they see this everyday & all by itself is non-significant ( they practice in a large hosp. here in L.A., CA) , so lets just all enjoy the life inside us ( mine is kicking me soo hard lol) & follow our hearts ( and guts) :)

Hi to all of you. Again, I can't thank you all enough for the posts you continue to add. In addition to our own encouragement, it is so great to hear the views from our doctors (from all over) that these foci are truly insignificant. I have another appt (Wk 28) this Wed, and promise to post when I return and speak to my doctor. Our practice rotates through different doctors so I have enjoyed (and been very rea__sured) that so far the (2) I met with have shown no concern at all with this finding. The first, as I mentioned in my initial post mentioned nothing - refused to even call it a focus or marker or anything, probably knowing the negative impact that would have should I visit the internet searching those words. The second one I met with said there was nothing to worry about - that he sees these ALL the time now with the better US machines they have in the office. He even added that the data we might read on the internet where they speak about the link to DS could be biased in that babies with DS are further evaluated (esp their heart) to the extent that this can very easily end up being identified. I meet with a new doctor on Wed (who I hear is extremely thorough) and look forward to posting even more positive news. Let's keep praying.

Thankful, your words sound so promising to me, thank you. I had another doctor appointment today, they had me speak with another social worker, in casemy husband and I may need help with "near future arrangements." I told them until the next ultrasound results, I do not care to speak to anyone about any arrangements at this time. I need to believe that the next utlrasound will provide me with some hope for my baby.

hi Noni-i had a family friend who i see every kids party & she always tell the story of her little miracle- her girl 4 yrs ago while still in her tummy was predicted to either not survive till term & if delivered will be severely handicapped, so all the professional she was referred to suggested termination ( she refused amnio, she did not elaborate the test results cos its been a while back & she tried to forget that period in her life-she's also 40 y/o) BUT she listen to her heart ,the joy that baby brought to her & her family while inside -something tells her everything will be allright no matter what , now that baby is a healthy 4 y/o -so delightful & beautiful-she said she cant still believe what those doc's & test told her.

Hello Everyone, I posted back last week about the "spot " on the babys heart. I went to my appointment today and the Dr a__sured me there was nothing to worry about, If it was a__sociated with something else then he would recommend a amnio but since there was just one spot and no other markers my chances of having a baby with DS was 1/1000. He did not schedule any other appointments just advised to keep going to my pre-natal office visits. Hearing that news made me feel alot better, still hoping and praying the baby is fine. God bless you all, I will keep all in my prayers and keep posting with updates.
