Hey there everyone! I posted way back in June I think. My daughter was diagnosed with a white spot on her heart and the dr. explained that it has been linked to downs. I opted not to do the amnio as we would love her no matter what. I also had a gut feeling she would be ok. I knew that there is a possibility that this could be my last baby as we think we are only going to have two children and I wanted to enjoy it no matter what. I determined not to worry about the spot on her heart since it was very loosely linked to downs even though that proved to be hard at times. I happy to say that my daughter was born last Friday, January 7th healthy and downs free. I know hearing the news of a "white spot" is hard but hang in there, know you're not alone and cry whenever you need to cry.

I posted here a few months ago. My daughter was born December 30th and she is completely normal and healthy. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE WHITE SPOT. It truly means nothing. I can't believe I worried so much over nothing. I won't worry if the same thing happens when I get pregnant again.

Also, I'm curious if there are women over 35 with eif's seen, and their babies are born healthy? I know this is "pregnant over 35" thread. I'm just looking for rea__surance. Thanks

Hi tnv0001,
You are welcome. I haven't had my baby yet. I do have an 11 year old daughter and currently pregnant (23 wks) I found out about the echogenic foci after my 20 week ultrasound and was consumed with searching all I can about it. I hope you find the FB support group helpful as I did. It was really comforting. My husband and I went to see a Genetic Counseller and found it helpful as well Is this the only soft marker they found?

de hugh, that's wonderful!..I hope you found the GC & FB comforting. You and I are both 23 wks. I'm due in May. I have a 6 yr old daughter. Did you have any lab work/screening done? What are your odds, if you don't mind me asking? All this is extremely nerve wracking!! I've been a nervous nelly lately, waivering between waiting till delivery or having amnio now. It's so sad that I'm letting this 1 finding consume me like this.

Hi - this message is to Catrinakey... I don't know if you found my previous posts, but I was pregnant with B/G twins. My boy twin had the spot on his heart and one dilated kidney. Throughout the pregnancy, his kidney continued to dilate more and the second kidney enlarged too. It was awfully scary - like you, even if it wasn't Downs I was so scared about his kidneys.
Today, he is 3 years old and totally healthy. After he was born, and urinated properly, they checked his kidneys via an ultrasound and his kidneys were fine. He has no issues with them now.
Let me know if I can provide you with any other info... I did learn that the dilated kidneys are much more common in little boys than girls.

Dear tnv0001,
I was almost 39 when my daughter Amelia was born. She had foci on her heart. She is a healthy, funny and beautiful 4 year old now. After she was born a cardiologist checked hear heart, he said she was perfect, that she never ever would need to be checked again, that the foci were as harmless as birth-spots on the skin. He said tha cardiologists call them "gold threads" because they were bright and that in all his years as a cardiologist he have never seen a Down baby with them and that he had seen many healthy babies with them, actually he was kind of angry with obys because he said that they should consult with them, cardiologists before getting the moms so worried for NOTHING.
I chose not to do the amnio because a friend of mine from work had a miscarriage because of it. I would have love Amelia as much as I do even if she wasn´t healthy.
Your baby will be fine, will be another special "gold thread baby!!!""

Hi tnv0001,
Yes I did have pre-screening done both for the NT and the blood work. My NT was below, I believe itw as 1.7 mm and my blood work came back all screen negative 1:7,700 for DS and 1:3,000 for other abnormalities. The GC was very comforting, thank goodness because I was afraid of agressive counsellers I've heard scarry stories. We had opted not to have the amnio done the GC said by law she had to offer it to me however she also mentioned that the risks with amnio were higher. I went into my appointing knowing that I wasn't going to get the amnio done.
I know how you feel as for the first couple of days I was really sad and didn't know what to do. The internet can be really scarry, I had decided to stop googling about the Echogenic Foci instead I read this forum along with the discussion boards on facebook and really found it comforting.. I love hearding about all the positive stories. I haven't come accross any negative stories yet. It's really tough when you dont have anyone to talk about it with. Other than my husband and my cousin (like a sister) I haven't shared this information with anyone and you want to be able to get feedback from others who are going through the same thing as yourself. Did your Dr. refer you to a GC? Even having other moms/moms to be responding is really comforting. Did you have any prescreening done? Are you over 35 (not that it matters anymore) the GC also told me that once they considered women over 35 to be high risk due to age and they have changed that since. (I am 38 turning 39 this year). If you go on facebook one of the ladies posted an article which was interesting. It also stated that in some countries ( i can't remember which one ) they don't even consider EIF a soft marker anymore. Please try not to worry too much.

Thanks Kris.....that makes me feel so much better. So happy for you that your son was just fine. You don't know how much it means to me to hear these positive stories. We still have not had our follow-up, but this really helps me to relax!!!

That's good.... Ya, I was so affected by the whole ordeal that 3+ years later I still stalk this thread!! Nothing was scarier than watching his kidneys continue to grow as the pregnancy progressed... and then, after he was born it was hardly discussed. I feel like I made a stink so they decided to give them a good look with an ultrasound (I am saying all that to point out how little of a deal it was to the Doctors!). What is most important is keeping the twins inside of you for as long as possible so try not to stress too much about it - I know it's easier said than done, however!! But, do know that there is another Mom out there that had the same scenario!! :)

hi mporatelli!! That's wonderful news. I love hearing all the postive news of healthy babies. Gold threads sound so much better than EIF. I will try to have a different outlook. Thanks for updating us. We all come here to this forum to find positivity.
