I posted about 9 weeks ago when I was 20 weeks and the dr. had found a foci spot on my babies heart. I went back for another u/s and the mark is still there, but even the u/s dr. (who is very arrogant) said he does not think that my little girl has d/s. He told me not to worry. In this case the numbers are in my favor- I am 30 years old and there are no other factors on the u/s. I did not get the quad check- i believe that there are way to many false posisitves and when I talked to my midwife she informed me that because of another minor problem (I had serious soptting for the first 11 weeks of my pregnancy) the test wouls come back positive no matter what. I am very relieved and loking forward to having a beautiful baby girl in February.

I just went for a level II. My dr. sent me because he sends everyone, not because there was something wrong. The level II showed that there was a calcium spot on my baby girls heart. Originally, he said that chances of having a DS baby were 1/500. That was before he noticed that my quad screening test was in and that everything came back normal. Then he said that the chances were now 1/5000. That made me feel sooo much better. He also suggested that I don't get an amnio test because that chances of miscarring from that test were much greater than the baby having DS. By the way...I'm 27 years old and 17wk3days pregnant. I've read everyone's story and am praying for all of you and myself. I see my OB on monday 12/12/05. I'll ask him more questions. Good Luck

I didnt make a post to diss doctors, as I do believe that my gynae has done his utmost, my general feeling is that its a stressful situation and 9 times out of 10, there is nothing wrong with the babies, if this is so common, as i've been told and read, why are they freaking people out with the thought that their baby "might" be born with Downs? I dont know about the rest of you, but i had stressful, sleepless nights, cried all the time, couldnt eat - almost felt like i was hitting rock bottom, surely we are doing more harm than good, only then to be told that everything is normal? I didnt mean to offend anyone with my comment.

I recently had an ultrasound II and it showed a spot on the baby's heart. I am 42 and 24 weeks pregnant. I started out with a 1:84 chance of Down's simply due to my age. I had the quad screen (which I regret) and it jumped the ratio to 1:15. I have read alot later that indicates it is not very helpful for someone my age. After the ultrasound II the technician thought everything looked good and was not very concerned about the spot. However the doctor came in and said it was a serious marker of Downs and my chance of Downs went to 1:7. I have read alot that says that it is a soft marker though. The report they submitted to my regular Dr did not suggest any follow up test on the heart so he said they must not be worried or they would have suggested further tests and he was relieved after the results of the ultrasound II. We had been very clear from the begining that amnio was not an option due to the risk even if small. All we get with these tests is possible odds and nothing definite ( unless it is amnio) I would never recommend for anyone my age to have these tests if they did not intend to have the amnio because nothing definite can be determined. Too many false positives and negatives for that matter. I had been extremely upset and have decided to look for a healthy baby but yet I know there is a chance of something being wrong. These tests opened up a Pandora's box that I wish I would not have opened. So I understand your fears and am not sure that these tests are so helpful after all. I realize everone is different and if a person is going to consider amnio then they are useful but nothing but a worry for me.

My Dr office called me yesterday and said they had to reschedule my follow up ultrasound that was for the 19th. I would be at 21 weeks. They can't do it until the 29th. They wanted to look at the heart again. My first us was at 17 weeks and that is the only marker they found. Actually I saw three spots. Not just one. I keep reading that you all say there was a spot. Well my baby has three spots! My blood work came back fine. I am trying not to worry and the extra 10 days should not matter since we opted to NOT do the amnio anyway. I hope some of you post after your babies are born and let us know how things are. My thoughts are with you all. I visit here every day to see if anyone else has posted.

Tiffany, thanks for the update--I check here very often too. I am 32 weeks, and promise to post after my daughter is born. I don't know the difference between 1 and 3 spots, good that your bloodwork was good. Keep us posted!

I had my regular appt today. Heartbeat sounded good and was a good rate. My midwife said I am measuring a tiny bit larger but that is good. My weight is good. She didn't mention any of this until I started to ask her lots of questions. I asked her about the spots on the heart and she said that the Dr. that did the US has the best equipment and they are seeing things that they didn't see before and don't know how to interpret them yet. Again, I think someone else posted here way back about the equip being better than ever and that is why they are seeing things. I am not going to worry about it any more. The baby is obviously growing. He is kicking more and more every day! We will do our follow up US, who knows, it could be a heart defect that they can fix after the baby is born if they know in advance.

I posted on the complications board as well. This board has helped me so much. I had a sobbing fit this morning when my ob called me with the news about my boy's echogenic focus even though she said not to worry. She was actually quite rea__suring, but my hormones got the best of me. I will be getting another ultrasound at some point, but she did not rec. amnio. I definitely plan to post again once my baby is born, if not sooner. Good luck to all of us.

Thanks to every one for the posts.i came across this site recently when me and my husband were worried about the docs call saying dat our little one had a bright spot(echogenic foci )on his heart and got helpful info here. And want to share my experience with you all. I had my first US in my 16th week. and every thing was going fine. But the problem started when my obs called me saying that my baby has calcium deposit on the heart, and was scheduled to second level US By then i got my AFP results which showed the chance of risk in 1/12000. doc told us that there is a very less chance of risk for DS and it may not effect my baby as AFP test result were normal.we couldnt do much other than leaving everything in the hands of god and just pary that everything comes out well and accept things how they are.On Dec 8th i had my second level US....we were rejoiced when doc told that there is no spot on his heart and it got disappeared but again told that there is a slight difference in the kidneys of the baby and it should be monitored but nothing to be worried about and no need for amino. And we r asked to come back again for another US on Jan 26th.Now i am 24 weeks pregnant doing good and enjoying the kicks of my little one.i pray to god that everything should be fine and keep all of you out there in my prayers.and i will keep posted with the updates.Good Luck

I am 35 years old and was told at my 18 week ultrasound that the baby has an EIF. I am very concerned, even though the Doc said that it did not change my risk (1:4300) for DS. I am now considering amnio-thought before the EIF I felt comfortable in my decision not to have one. Very upsetting. Anyone else?

I am 37 too. My baby girl had the same spot on her heart and I worried for no reason. I did the amnio, just to be sure. She is fine and completely normal. It is nothing to worry about it. Don't worry.
