I don't mean to gross anyone out, but ever since I found I was pregnant, I have been burping and farting nonstop! Is this normal? Is it because I am taking the prenatal vitamins? What can I do to minimize these symptoms? Can I expect this to continue throuout my pregnancy? I am not eating anything different except the huge amounts of crackers i have been consuming.

Glad to hear I am not alone in this. I have been so constipated, metamucil has been useless. I went to the dr. today, he told me to give myself a fleets enema, uggh! I think I'd rather give it one more day........!

I burp all the time. Especially 2-3 hours after eating anything. The farting has happened, but not nearly as much as the burping. My mom says it's because the baby has a lot of hair! :)

Janet,
Pretty funny. Well, I do know about the burping though not much about the latter, but this is my understanding of things digestive: the high amount of progesterone serves many functions (including helping the pregnancy to survive), and one of the effects is a loosening of your digestive functioning and slowing down. So your food is being digested more slowly. The entire musculature of the digestive tract is relaxed. Heartburn and constipation are also possible effects. But keeping a healthy diet with lots of good fibre will help reduce emissions!! As well, your growing uterus, may, in the early stages, be putting pressure on your bladder, which is why it is common to urinate more frequently.
The prenatal vitamins: when are you tkaing them, and with what fluid? I take extra vitamins at night, and it's hard to take them with water . The morning prenatals I take with a fruit and yogurt shake and I have no problems.
Good luck!

PFFFFT~ oh excuse me...a little gas... :) YEP I remember the gas, and I may be pregnant now because all of a sudden, without a change in diet or vitamins, the gas is back like it was when I got pregnant before. Oh my gosh it is so yuck. It does not even smell like me. :) I don't think it lasted my whole pregnancy last time, but it came back with a vengance when I nursed :( My advice is to stay off of sugar and refined carbs as much as you can, and eat plenty of good proteins. Oh and for the person with constipation problems....coming from a lifelong sufferer of it, metamucil does not work. The only thing that has EVER worked for me is Citrucil. I take the tablets every morning and my doctor told me that I can take those when I get pregnant. The fiber in Metamucil was too hard on my system and only caused tons of GAS and constipation because the fiber is non-soluble.

Oh yes the gas!! My DH looks just says, "that's disgusting". :) "Hey, it's not me it's the baby", I say. The first few months were horrible I felt so bloated and disgusting. I finally started feeling a little better but the gas is still intense. There's really nothing you can do about it but I heard that camomile tea might help and taking tums (plust they have calcium). I have always had stomach issues so I'm dealing with it. I let out some whoppers though I just warn my husband and let em rip. They happen too often to keep going to the bathroom but luckily they don't smell -- atleast not to me! :) I can joke about this now but during the first few months I was so miserable. I try to drink lots of water so as not to be constipated and that seems to help. The only good thing about being ga__sy and bloated is that I can only eat small meals. Too much food and I feel as if I'll explode so I haven't gained that much weight. Good luck I hope I helped if only to make you laugh...

pregnancy , burping , and farting with a little laughter go hand in hand and I think is quite comical and in my opinion not gross just worth a chuckle ! laughing after a burp and fart will only set the record straight to anyone who thinks they want to be offended or see your/ call you on embarra__sment will only set the record straight to them all . Happy Fuming! ....LOL
