I'm trying to get pregnant at 41. What's your story? Have you been successful at this age?

Tammy - May 28

I got pregnant at age 40 with my son. Had a very easy pregnancy and a speedy delivery (23 minutes). I am 45 and pregnant with my third. I am 19 weeks and so far having an easy pregnancy. I did have two miscarriages between, one at 42 and one at 43.

Hi Tammy, I am trying very hard to get pregnant for #2 at age of 38. I am so glad to know that you got pregnant with first at 40 and at 45, you are now pregnant with 3rd. Could u kindly pls share with me what actually you had done or take to boost up your fertility as I want so much to be pregnant again. Quite easy to get pregnant with my 1st though but this time, it seems harder and longer. Appreciate your advice.

Hi Tamara & G. I'm 37 & my husband is 43. I'm 7mths along with my first pregnancy. We tried for 5 years -no luck, then 2 horrible M/C. After fertililty treatments and more no luck, we decided to adopt. Our daughter came into our lives when she was 12 hrs old. She's 10 mths old now. Basically, after we stopped trying and thinking about it, it happened. Now our first two will be a year apart. I'm not an overly religious person, but I am spiritual - and I have to say "God's plan is way different than your own". Since we are just starting having our family, I'm happy hearing everyones success stories of pregnancys into their 40s. Interesting note: in our local community play group, out of 10 ladies, 7 are over 35 and 4 are over 40!

Hello. How long have you been trying? If more then 6 months it is recommended to get checked. I am 40 and was having a hard time getting pregnant and made an appointment with a fertility doctor. Luckily I ended up having to cancel that appointment. He was going to check my egg reserve. They had already done the blood work to determine that I was not pre-menopausal. There are many women who are becoming pregnant at our age. Just make sure that you have explored all your options. I did conceive naturally however I did take 5 days worth of clomid the month prior to becoming pregnant. Good Luck and hang in there. Here are some things that I did to try and help the plan along. I got a ClearBlue Digital Ovulation Predicter Monitor and that worked great and cut down on the guess work. I started walking and cut down on my wine intake :) I also got some Pre-Seed which is a special lubricant that has the same PH as s____n. By the way I became pregnant the first time trying Pre-seed. I was suspecting that my CM was not plentiful or perhaps hostile. Hope this helps and don't give up!! I am 11w1d today!!

Hi all - I'm 38 and 15 weeks with our first. We tried (naturally only) for 3 years before I finally got pregnant. We didn't try really hard, though, I'm sure that's why it took so long. I'm glad the tide has turned and older parents are becoming more of the norm. I haven't been sick at all, feeling pretty good except in late May when boy did my allergies kick up! Good luck to everyone!

G- It was always a joke that I only had to think abou it to get pregnant. With this baby it took about 18 months. I bought an ovulation predictor because my cycle used to be 28 days faithfully. In the last year it has been all over the place. The predictor seemed to help. Good luck to you and I hope that you get pregnant soon. I am having another boy due on Oct 28th. Post when you have good news!!!

Hi Alice, Tamara and all. I have tried more than 6 mths and being put on clomid for 3 cycle, March 50mg and April and May for 100mg and not successful. It is true that I hardly have EWCM during my clomid cycle. I just had HSG done last 2 weeks to check whether the tubes are block and according to the report, it seems like I have patulous cervix and the liquid cannot be retainned in the cervix. The uterus is underfilled and the left tube is seen and clear, but the right tube cannot be seen. Thus, they want me to go for labroscopy next month for further check up. The infertility specialist did propose IVF but I don't really ready for the cost and the low success rate. It is true that I get stress very much to get pregnant and friends around me told me this is the reason I could not conceive.

Hi Tammy. Congratulation on your baby boy. Did you take clomid or others or you conceive naturally after trying for 18 mths?

Vickie - June 28

I am currently 31 weeks along with my first child at age 40 and will be 41 when the baby comes. I married at age 38 and still wanted a baby only if it happened naturallly. We decided to try for one year. My doctor said I'd be pregnant in 6 months. I got pregnant two weeks before our year was up...during Thanksgiving last year. I'm due late August! We are having a boy!!

Hi Tamara, I am 36 and 14.5wks preg with 2nd one....I was really surprised that it happened so soon for me as we only started trying in Feb. and I conceived in April...I found that the following site is quite helpful as far as ovulation dates go...www.babyhopes.com/ovulation-calendar/plan.cgi - Good luck!!!!

Hi G. Have you done IUI Artificial Insemination) while on the clomid? That increases your chances when there is lack of cervical fluid, or it's hostile etc. Also, it might help if you are only "firing "from one tube. I had an HSG done, found out one tube was blocked and then scheduled a Laprascopy. A few days before I was to go, I found out I was pregnant. (lost to m/c unfortinately) . Go figure though - so far, In 5 years, I have gotten pregnant twice when the pressure is off and with only one tube working. First time was after I finally got to see the fertility specialist and felt like I was going to get help and the second time was 8 mths ago. We had just adopted a newborn girl and 3 mths later, I'm pregnant. (This time has gone well and I'm due in 9 weeks! My kids will be 13 mths apart!) I know it's hard and an emotional rollercoaster, but stay positive. Check out IUI (which costs about $200. a shot), have the laprascopy to ease your mind and rule out anything serious, capitalize on the months you see lots of cervical fluid and consider doing anything you can to keep your mind off of it. It became a mind game with me and I really believe hindered conception. Hope that helps - take care :-)

I wanted to thank all of you for your comments. I am 35 and remarried for one year. My husband just recently underwent an a VR and if statistics read right then we could be trying at this for the next 3 years. After reading article after article I felt that I was not going to have the family that I so dreamed of. Thanks again...

Hi- Had my 1st at 38 and got pregnant right away. I just had a m/c w/#2 but I got pregnant right away. On a side note my mum had me at 45 and my brother at 41. I am one of 10. I dont think of it as a big deal to be older having babies back in the day many women got pregnant in their 40's. If it happened it happened. I wish you all the best and with age comes wisdom!

hellllooooo everyone! sorry to interupt Tamara but I really like Allie's input , umm actually I really like this whole thread . I don't feel so alone . Go for it Tamara kids are great at this age . Would it be unfair for me to ask what everyones main concerns are about having children later in life ? I only ask because the third boy is on the way due in March , had the first at 39 and turned 45 yesterday enjoying it like there is no tomorrow which brings me to my concern ...... I want to be around for a loooooong time to watch them grow . I really need to get over that fear . Any way thanks to all of you for this thread . I really like it !!!
