It's very important to get your doctors clearance before flying. I was going to go back to the states next month but have been grounded by my doctor becuause of chronic hypertension. Flying in the second trimester is usually the best time (I have heard of airlines refusing to transport women in their 9th month unless emerg situation becuase of the chance of giving birth) but again, clear it with your doctor before making any arrangements...

I did a short flight whilst pregnant with my 1st,they say that being pregnant is not an illness, some women fly without realising they are pregnant...I'm sure. Then there are those who want to fly home for family reasons.

Yes that is true pregnancy isnt an illness but, because of the air pressure some women can go into preterm labor.thats why its always best to speak with your ob.

I am a flight attendant and was working (flying) until my 28th week. Most doctors will let you fly until 32 weeks. Always ask your doctor first but flying should not be a problem. Bring snacks and drink lots of water. And make sure you buckle up, don't walk around during turbulence

A friend of mine went to Italy from NJ towards the end of her 2nd trimester. She was fine. Good luck!

Most people are just fine. However you are exposed to way more radiation than normal when flying.

I read not to fly in the 1st or last trimester. HOWEVER, Kaiser told me I am reading too much! They said there is no issue flying in the first trimester. I flew at 11 weeks and so far, so good (I'm 15 weeks now).

Check with your doctor..get the go ahead from him/her. Aslong as you are not high risk or experiencing problems before they will problem give you the thumbs up. I just got back from Florida last week and I was in my 8th week my doctor gave me the go ahead. I avoided going through any metal detectors and opted for the pat down..they allow this for pregnant women;). It was just fine for me..although I found it elevated my nausea. Good luck and enjoy yourself the relaxation will do your pregnancy wonders!! P.S. try to inform yourself of any medical facilities available, get travellers health insurance and emergency phone numbers just in case you ever have any problems :)
