I'm 39 and 29 weeks and was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I was told the reading after 1 hour of the 2 hour glucose chalenge was 11.8 with 11 being on top of acceptable range. Has anyone had this problem and what did you do about it?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and I have already been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I take insulin injections twice a day. There are some new meds available for this if necessary. I opted for insulin because there is data to back up the fact that the insulin does not harm your baby. Often, your high blood sugar levels can be lowered through a proper diet. It usually goes away after pregnancy. I was predisposed to this happening because 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome and I was already on Glucophage (which totally controlled my blood sugar) prior to my becoming pregnant. I had to stop the Glucophage when I found out that I was pregnant. Don't worry yourself silly because it can be dealt with. Your Dr. will most likely monitor the growth of your baby very closely to make sure that it does not become too large for you to deliver.
