I am 45 years old and have two children ages 22 and 20; I am in a new relationship and have been for 18 months. We are considering getting pregnant. I am healthy and really want to go for it. This site has helped by hearing other's experiences. I am aware of the risks, but still very much want to have a baby with this wonderful man. Am I crazy?

Of course you're not crazy. It is a wonderful thought to start a family all over again now that you have found a new man that loves you and takes care of you. Go for it, and best of lucks trying!

I don't see anything wrong with wanting to start a new family with your new man. Just make sure that, once you have made up your mind to do so, you have a talk with your kids to prepare them for the possibility having another sibling. After my husband told his 20 yo daughter & 13 yo son at X-mas that we were expecting, his daughter refused to speak to him for two weeks! There are plenty of books at the library that will give you ideas of how to bring up the subject for discussion with them. Good luck & let us know how it goes.

You are not crazy at all. I am 43 yrs and has two boys, the first one just turned 20 in Feb. and the second one will be 18 in May. I have been married 6mths now and my husband and I are trying to have a baby. I had a miscarriage at the end of Jan, but I have not given up yet. I have not told my sons. If and when I do get pregnant again, and evrything is ok after the first trimester, I am going to tell them.If you are happy with your new relationship then go for it.Good luck.

hi I think that you should do whatever you feel is the right thing for you...but just remember there are risks involved with having a child at age 45 I am 35 and just had my 3rd son like you my first 2 were with my ex husband and I then remarried a man that had no children of his own and we had one but even at my age I had to go thru alot of tests and such and was worried in fact our first try ended in a mc but now we have a healthy wonderful baby boy but I have to tell you it was a bit scary knowing the chances of having something wrong like ds or another mc so just go in this with your eyes open and I would go to your obgyn and talk to him/her about what risks you do face but good luck with whatever you do.....( :

I have lots of friends who have had babies at 44 and 45. Another had a friend who had #10 at age 50! However, I know several older women who have Down Syndrome babies. Just beware of the risks. Get yourself as healthy as possible. Read the book, What Your Doctor Won't Tell You about Pre-menopause. Progesterone cream can help regulate your hormones. BTW, I am 10 weeks pregnant and I will be 45 in 2 weeks!

Thanks to all of you for your help. I am aware of the risks, but feel that the benefits far outweigh them. I have made an appt with my OB/GYN to discuss things, have started taking folic acid, and am looking forward to everything to come. Congratulations Tammy--and best wishes. Any advice will be welcomed!!!
