Val...try not too be too worried. You will do great. I had 3 of them and am trying to go back for more-LOL! Seriously, just take good care of yourself after and don't lift, vacuum all the instructions your dr will give you. You will recover in no time. I'll be watching for your posts. Glad to see veryone else is well! xoxo

Dearest Val, Re. the cloth diaper/MIL issue.............I'm afraid I have to admit that I used the disposables for a week after getting out of hospital as I hadn't got the stamina to start a system which I didn't yet understand. I hated using the disposables but, luckily, it wasn't for long and it meant that I could concentrate on my recovery. Now I don't ever want to go back to them (especially the disposable and perfumed wipes which started to give my DD a rash - so I'll only use them in emergency situations when we're out and about .......... otherwise just water and a few minutes of leg kicking seems to get her very clean!!) so it's now cloth all the way! Hooray! DD has no rash now and everything is natural which is great. We're using muslins and liners only at the moment because she's not yet big enough to go into the lovely and fluffy diaper system ones we've got but she's not far off (just a few more pounds). I'd let your MIL use the disposables if it saves arguments as you'll need your strength in these first few weeks. Must go - sorry to cut this short.........DD callling!! Love to all...........XOXOXOXOXOX

hi all... Hopeful - don't feel bad about using disposables the first week! We are probably going to do that as well, especially considering I'll probably be in the hospital for several days and we don't want to start with the cloth there (and have to haul dirty diapers home to wash!) We are also planning to use disposables when we're out with the baby (working/travelling/etc.) LM3, thanks for the encouragement! I hope everyone is having a good day. I'm a bit crabby today, I think because my allergies are kicking in. They get really bad in late May through June - I've even had seasonal asthma for the past 2 years. When we're doing having children, I'm definitely going to go through the allergy desensitization shots... I kept thinking maybe they wouldn't hit this year, but I'm pretty stuffy today. arggh. ok, I'll stop whining and go find something production to do... take care...

Hi everyone. Well my temp at work seems to be catching on fast, so that's very good and a relief. Plus it gives me a little more down time. It takes a load off knowing someone will be taking care of my work when I'm gone. Sounds like everyone is doing well. Val-sorry to hear about your allergies, my ds has them too, poor guy and he's always miserable this time of year. Hopefully you can get some relief, is there anything you can take over the counter that's safe for now? Also, I agree with using the disposable the first week, it will probably make it simpler for you during recovery. I really commend those of you using cloth. If I didn't have a full time job and so busy with other kids, I'd be inclined to try it, but I'm afraid my lifestyle wouldn't be condusive at the moment. Punkin-I'm still having s_x once or twice a day! Although sometimes we skip a day or two in between. I figure it can't hurt and it's still enjoyable so why not? I was laughing with ds the other day telling him that when the baby can't fall asleep, we'll have to make the b-ding motions and sounds and it'll probably soothe him right down-lol! I'll be getting the last of everything ready this weekend, but I'd like to last at least until the beginning of June. My luck, thinking I'll go early, I'll end up going past due like my other 3. I was 8 days late, 6 days late, and 6 days late again. But that was over 10 years ago, so maybe my body's too old to carry it that long anymore! I'm definitely feeling my age with this pregnancy. I'm not sure what happened the last couple of weeks, but all of sudden I feel like a miserable old lady with no energy to do anything. 5 weeks seems sooooo far away. Better get going-hugs to all and let's have some more babies!!!

hey BM5 i wish i flet like it mentally i want to but physically i just cant and hubby is sooooooo understanding....i have offered to help him out but he refuses if i cant enjoy too......sorry that may have been TMI for some..........i keep thinking maybe if i could muster up the strength to do it it might help bring on labor because the last time we did i had contractions ALOT that day and 2 days later i was checked and starting to dialate so if we could it might hurry things along and i am 37 weeks and 1 day now so the baby should be just fine if he was born now.......my Dr keeps telling me the pain i have is round ligament pain but i found a website that better describes my pain it says::::::: Symphysis pubic dysfunction, or SPD, is one of those weird pregnancy conditions that sounds bizarre and well, kind of is. It means the ligaments that normally keep your pelvic bone aligned become too relaxed and stretchy. This, in turn, can make the pelvic joint — aka the symphysis pubis — unstable, causing some pretty strange sensations and sometimes pain.
What causes it: The culprit behind SPD is the aptly named hormone relaxin. Its mission is to make your ligaments stretchy so your baby can ease his or her way into the world. But sometimes relaxin does its job too well, making ligaments too loose too soon (way before baby is ready to come out), and that causes instability (and unfortunately, pain) in the pelvic joint. Walking, standing, or rolling over in bed can really hurt as one side of the joint shifts more than the other, throwing everything off-kilter.:::::::::::so what everyone keeps saying is round ligament pain ...is not some days is better than others and it depends on activity level too much and it is unbearable and not enough (like sitting around all day) is just as bad as too much........maybe i can stand it 1 week and 6 days...........has anyone had this????? BM 5 when is your due date ? i was keeping up with them on a post it note and hubby cleaned the computer desk and threw it away i guess......take care and hope to read a new birth story soon

Punkin-my due date is 6/19. I know a lot about SPD because I have it too. It's different than the ligament pain that everyone keeps talking about. The ligament pain usually occurs in the 2nd trimester when the uterus is starting to expand. SPD can happen any time during the pg, but according to my doc, gets worse with every pg. Ligament pain is stretching of the muscles to accomodate the growing uterus and like you said, SPD is the pelvic bone separating because of the relaxin hormone. It's when your pelvic bone separates at a rate faster than it should. Here are some tips to ease the pain for SPD: make sure when you get in and out of chairs, seats (especially the car) that you swing both legs together. At night when you're sleeping, always have a pillow between your legs and when you rollover, always move both legs at the same time. When walking, take small steps so that your legs aren't too far apart from each other. At night, sometimes I need help lifting my legs because if they separate too far from each other, you will literally get "stuck" and not be able to move your legs on their own. With my other 3 pgs, I had to sleep in a recliner at night after 7 mos because it was too hard to be in a bed. But now with this one, the pain was really bad in the 1st-2nd tri and then by the 3rd, it's almost gone away. I saw a physical therapist about it and he said it was probably because I had good habits taking care of it, making sure those bones don't get too far from each other--that's the key. Probably more info than what you needed, but thought I'd tell ya what I know-lol. I would definitely try the s_x thing and this might be too TMI for some, but it's best for me when I'm on all 4's and that way it doesn't interfere with my belly, or you could also try going on the edge of the bed. You can be on your back for a short period of time, but for me it gets hard to breathe after about 5 min, so if hubby's taking to long-lol-a different position may be better. Or laying side by side with hubby behind? Just thought I'd give you some positioning tips in case you ever feel up to it-lol. I was 35 wks on Mon and I have several contractions a day, I think it's from all the s_x, so I'm hoping to make it about 2 more weeks. Hope all is well with everyone else and that the new moms are enjoying their babes!! Hugs to all....

Hello all! Time to post quickly.................. the little one is asleep on Grandma and I've just had a shower! Can you believe it? I've also folded the washing. So much time on my hands............amazing!!! Seriously though - I'm off to the doctor in a minute as I seem to have had an allergic reaction to something and I've a rash all over my forearms and a little bit on my legs. Horrible - driving me nutty!! Doc gave me a cream on Monday but it doesn't work so going back to see if something else can be done and also to get her to ring the hospital and ask what they gave me (I had to have an antibiotic because of the length of time between the waters breaking and actually giving birth) so I can know not to take it in the future. Other than that, all is well. Found some material in a second-hand shop which I cut up to make liners for the diapers. Very successful - means I don't have to wash every day which is great!! DD is doing wonderful - still sleeping a lot and feeding well (usually every 4 hours in the night and every 2-3 hours in the day depending on what we're doing). RE. the smiling thing - I'm pretty sure she's giving it a go but really only manages it properly when she's asleep (called an Angel Smile in this part of the world! Sweet, eh?) but it's lovely to see anyway. Other than that, she's gorgeous - of course - and we're both completely in love with her. So thankful that Grandma is here to take off some of the pressure. Don't know what it'll be like when she goes next week! Anyway - must go and check on everything before I go to the doctor. Hope everyone is well - can't wait to hear some more stories. Speak to you soon. Lots of love XOXOXOX

hi all! It's good to read everyone's updates. HOPEFUL, sounds like you are doing really well, apart from the rash. Hope it goes away soon. PUNKIN, thanks for the tip about walking after the c-section... I'll definitely have to do that. LB, that's cute about Jackson's smile! PUNKIN and BM5, I thought I had that PSD a few months back, but I guess it was just the ligament pain. I do have a lot of pain when I stand up and walk, and when I turn over in bed, but it seems more localized in my crotch. (sorrry if tmi). I really can't complain though. Apart from that I'm feeling really good and I'm able to sleep a lot. My allergies are starting to kick in which is kind of frustrating. I'm going to see my naturopath today and I think she's going to do some allergy points. The OB said I can take claritin or zirtec but I hate to take anything while I'm still pg unless it gets really bad. Trying to stick with nettles and the homeopathic solution I have, but it tastes awful! My update: looks like I'm going in for the c-section bright and early on Tuesday morning. The baby is now in the wrong position (transverse? across my belly) and he's estimated at 9.5 lb and has big measurements, so the dr is definitely recommending the c-section. I'm fine with it, but this waiting around is hard! It's good that I have a date though so now I'm working on last minute projects. xoxo

Val-it is so good to have a date! I wish I knew even within a few wks. Now you can get all your last minute things done and know exactly how much time you have. Good luck!!! Can't wait to hear all about it, update us as soon as you can! But take it easy and rest too. I sure hope your allergies feel better by then. Hopeful-it sounds like things are going well with dd, so glad to hear you guys are enjoying her so much--it makes all those aches and pains that we're going through seem so far away, doesn't it? That's what I'm hoping for anyways. I'm hoping to forget all these pg complaints right away. I'm glad Grandma is there to help, your dd is so lucky to be surrounded by so much love. And don't worry-you'll be fine when she has to go, you guys will get into your own little routine. Loved-can't wait to see the baby smile! Makes the world go round. Hope everyone else is doing well. I seem to have a bit of energy the last few days so I'm trying to make the best of it by tying up loose ends at work. Hugs to all...

hey all BM5 thanks for the additional info ...i will take all i can get to get this pain to go away....i actually thought about sleeping in the recliner but i dont want to be away from hubby.....but i may try it just to see if it helps.....well i went to the Dr yesterday and i only gained 1 lb so that is a total of 9 for the entire pregnancy.....i am measuring 37 weeks and i am 37 weeks and 3 days so maybe a "normal" sized baby (my son was 9.2 and my baby girl was 8.11) and by this time with her i was measuring 39-40 weeks so it will be different if he is "normal" sized have one so "tiny" when compared......my BP was good but i had some protein in my urine but she (my DR was out of town seen his a__sociate) said it was OK......but she did take me out of work starting Monday.....i didnt tell her i worked only sat and sun (unless i am filing in for someone) so i still get 2 more days on what will be my last check so i am excited about having some time off before baby arrives( i have been working alot of extra time because 2 full timers have took vacation days before i went on maternity leave and then last week another full timers husband had a stroke so she was out with him and i worked several days and with the SPD sitting most of the time makes me hurt 10 times worse ....at home i have it worked out where i know what i can do and then i rest but not to long or getting up hurts soooooo bad ....plus i need to get some things done around the house before he gets here....but my bag is packed and we bought gifts for the baby to give our 18 mo old and she picked out a stuffed animal with the blanket attached to give to him .....(trying to make her feel special too) and she got her shirt and his onsie for their decals to be ironed on (his says baby brother and hers says middle sister and my oldest sons says big brother.....) so i am getting really excited now that time is getting closer......loved and hopeful it is so good to get updates on you guys and your LO's......loved the 27 is my hubbys b'day too....i hope it isnt to hot either....what little heat we are having now is almost unbearable ........val good luck on tuesday it is so nice to have a date to look forward to .....and i have heard a scheduled C is so much better because its like making an appt to have your baby instead of waiting to days and weeks....and plus no labor to put up with like i did with DD 19 hrs and still had a C......take care everyone........who is left now besides myself val and BM5 or are we the last ones ?????check in later bye

Another quickie (Sorry!) Just to say GOOD LUCK to Val for Tuesday! I can't wait to hear all about it. Definitely take Punkin's advice and walk after the c-section - I did and every day was a little bit easier. Now at 3.5 weeks later I'm pretty mobile even though there's still some tenderness at my scar. It really does get better so don't think you're going to be bedridden for ages. Just take it easy and it will be fine. Punkin - hope the pain eases soon. Glad to hear you're finishing work - it's about time!! BM5 - are you finished yet? Hope so! I was really lucky to be able to work flexitime throughout my pregnancy coz I was really just helping out DH. I'm very impressed with all you workers and I hope you can get some well deserved rest before the big day! ******* News with me?............. Still got the rash and it doesn't seem to be getting any better - going back to the doc on Monday to have an allergy test. Have rung hospital and got the name of the antibiotic (which has a rash/hives side effect) so hopefully they can find some sort of antidote that doesn't affect my milk. Keep your fingers crossed. I also have a numb heel (right foot) which is a bit weird (had it since pregnancy) so I'm off to a neurologist sometime in the next month (all fully booked at the moment) to find out what that's about. I sound like a hypochondriac don't I? Looking forward to starting a post-pregnancy "recovery" course in June which is a sort of post-natal cla__s. That's all my news really - except to say that my daughter is gorgeous - of course!! Better go now - stuff to do while she's sleeping (like going to the toilet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!) Speak to you all soon. So glad everyone's doing so positively. Much love XOXOXOXOXOX

howdy, ladies... Thanks for all your encouraging thoughts. I can't believe we'll be meeting the baby in less than 48 hours! I'm taking it easy today, probably finally working on my crochet projects, possibly making a rhubarb coffeecake, and maybe cleaning our bathroom, but that's about it. PUNKIN, glad you're finished with work! That must feel really good. HOPEFUL, I hope you get all your med issues worked out. BM5, when do you go on maternity leave? I'm glad you're having more energy. It's funny how it seems to come and go for me. Sometimes I'm scurrying (well, waddling) around the house getting stuff done and other times I can't drag myself off the couch!

Hey guys, baby is asleep for now in her bouncy seat, right next to me on the floor. It's nice to have somewhere else to put her besides her ba__sinet, so I can stare at her and adore her while I catch up on posting. I am moving in about two weeks or so. I am soooo excited about it too. I will finally be able to put her nursery together and get organized. Right now we sleep in the living room and it sucks to be honest. The place we are moving to has so much more room than where we are now, so life is going to feel better once we get out of here. The other night was motorcycle night here and I swear I wanted to shoot every biker that went by on a Harley. No offense to Harley riders, but when you have a sleeping baby and they roar by, one after the other, they kind-of get on your last nerve! Ok, now the baby is waking up. Doesn't surprise em though because she slept a lot last night. TTYSoon I hope.

hey all, less than 24 hours now... pretty crazy! TRACY, those motorcycles would definitely suck! I love looking at HDs but they are really annoying to listen to. I'm hoping we don't have a similar problem here with log trucks. There are one or jerky drivers who use their jake brakes (air brakes) starting at 5:30 in the morning! Wakes me up almost every time they go by. So, I'm very excited today, but kind of nervous. I just found out that a friend of my sil recently died from a stroke. She was only 35 or so. It wasn't in childbirth or anything (as far as I know), but still very sad and scary. Anyway, on a positive note, we're looking forward to meet our little guy tomorrow. Please keep us in your thoughts... I'll try to post again by Friday... And thanks for everyone's encouragement and support - it means a lot to me! xoxo, V
