hi everyone. anyone miss me :). I have been loaded down with projects and cant seem to even clean the dishes or anything. I keep getting these really bad headaches in the evening, but probably cuz I dont sleep enough. So you guys are all progressing, and I keep forgetting to call to make any appts... upcoming should be the AFP test and then the level 2... Glucose is at 24 weeks. What I am not forgetting is the LACK of movement I am feeling. ladies it is 18 weeks on thurs with 4th kid and I still feel nada zippo zilch. What are y'all feeling?
Kristen hoping for you its a girl - you can name her toola from my big fat greek wedding or antonia :). Christa - glad to hear you are coming around. It can be tough - sometimes I cant even write the letters dh cuz I wanna be killing him - not that this is your problem.. Btw - my first child - a boy - was 7 when my 2nd was born. I was desperate for a boy since it was all I knew, and wanted him to have a friend and all that. Well we had a little girl and now she is 6 and totally amazing! And not to spook you guys out, but we were told with my son in the 20 week u/s that it was a girl, and only told that it was a boy at the 32nd week or something. My husband found out in the 20th week and kept the secret to himself the whole time that was WRONG. I never found out until birth, but was so convinced that it was a girl, I made midwife double check! Sorry for all that rambling. One last thing. I may cave and buy the cheapest doppler I can buy and afford with shipping (shipping alone is $30). Anyone hear anything about angelsounds? tata for now

Hey Kristin, great news on seeing an active and healthy baby on your u/s!!! How cute that must be to see your own baby sucking its thumb. Sorry you didn't find out the gender--I know you were really hoping to resolve the naming part of it right away. So I guess my dh is not the only one inseparable from his mobile phone even during an u/s. At my first u/s, I flipped out when my dh took his phone in with him and starting checking messages. I told him to either tell his secretary he would not be available or just turn off his d__ned phone for just 30 minutes or just leave! Lucky for you though that your bf stepped out long enough for your u/s tech to secretly tell you it may be a girl.****Hey Annishel--good hearing from you!! I would have chased my husband with one of his golf clubs if he tried to keep my baby's gender a secret from me. That's just rude! Maybe you should keep it a secret from him this time BTW, my friend was told twice after ultrasounds that she was having a girl-- when her baby was born everyone was surprised it was a boy! They are usually right but I guess sometimes u/s techs make mistakes too. Annishel, are you too busy to sleep or why aren't you sleeping enough???? Your baby needs you to get enough food and rest--please take care of yourself. Don't worry about the movement yet. I know you're an expert since you already have 2 children but seriously each one is different. Discuss this with your Dr. but don't worry. I only feel movements every few days and when I do they are very small and almost unnoticeable.

Hey Kristin, I forgot to ask. . . are you getting 3D u/s info from your Dr or do you have to go about it privately apart from your Dr and insurer?
|

We have to do it privately I believe. It costs about $150-200 from the sites I have looked at in Toronto. In some cases if there is a problem detected the OB will rec out the 3d ultrasound and it would be free, otherwise it is elective. My friends sister had it done she loved the results. Are you considering having it too Perl?

Thanks for responding Kristin. If you have to pay for yours being in Canada, then I'll definitely have to pay for mine too. I've been curious about the 3D u/s just because I've never seen one personally. I'm considering it but not sure yet. I'm going to wait for my u/s next week and then find out when/if I have another u/s and if it's too long of a wait and it's not too expensive then I may have one done.

Great prenatal appointment today. There was a good strong heartbeat and Dr. explained how some of the extra sounds we were hearing were baby's movements. My uterus is in good position right below my belly b___ton and all was fine. I was confused that Dr. told me that since my first prenatal appointment I've gained 5 pounds and that I 'could' (not should) gain more. I'm confused because I could swear that I'm up by 10 pounds and I feel all blimpy like I've gained so much more than that. Dr. is not concerned so whatever--she did tell me I'd gain quite a bit more in the next several weeks. I was told it's time for me to choose my baby's pediatrician and also pre-register with the hospital---have everyone else done that already?

IT'S A GIRL!!!!!!!!!! The lady asked me and hubby what we thought it was and I said a boy and he said a boy and my son was there watching too and it was so exciting and then she says, it's a girl!! I cried and hubby came over and gave me a kiss. It was very emotional. My son said he was going to faint. LOL. That nut! He is happy with it though even though he wanted a boy. We are all very happy. Anyway, she measured right on time and everything was perfect. No markers for anything at all. Now I know that an amnio is the only thing to tell for sure, but that's o.k. I was just happy to hear all her measurements were good and she apprears to be normal and healthy, nothing different in her looks anyway like some horror stories you hear. Then the doctor said look, she's swallowing. It was SO FREAKY. I didn't care for the doctor that came in afterwards to talk to us because she must have asked me three times if I had an AFP or if I was having an amnio. I told her three times no and no. I said do you see a problem in the ultrasound? She said no, but that I really should have the AFP done. Whatever b___h. Anyway, because I had it done early, they could not measure her heart yet and I have to go back in four weeks so they can do that measurement. They also have me at 18w/4d and not 17w/4d. I told her all along that I figured as much but when I had my ultrasound at 7 weeks, they changed it. I still believe that I am a week ahead of what my ob/gyn says. I still think the ultrasound was not accurate dating either. She also commented on she's got quite a big nose!! I was like, excuse me??!!! LOL! My poor baby!! LOL. Anyway, just wanted to update you girls. So I go back in four weeks for another and I think I will have them recheck that it's a girl to be sure. I just am afraid to believe it at this point. PERL~I'm glad to hear your visit went well and no, I have no preregistered yet but have already got my pediatrician, the same one my son sees. I hope you all have a great fourth of July weekend. Eat and be merry!! XO

Mel: CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I'm so glad for you that all went well and that you sound so happy as you should be. I know it's inconvenient to have to go back for another u/s but at you'll get to see your baby girl once again and get more pictures out of it. What is wrong with that doctor? When I asked by OB if I should do First Tri screening, amnio or AFP she said "NO (as in no comment)--it's all optional and completely up to you." Shame on that doctor for trying to pressure you into doing an amnio or AFP. ***Like Christa, I just got my AFP results this morning---all 4 screenings were negative.

Ok, so now I am sick. I have a cold/upper respiratory infection. I am miserable! I am trying not to take any of the OTC's but my misery id taking over. I am taking minimal amounts of stuff (with RNs approval) and am now getting a ZPack called in for me. I can not wait for this to be over with.

Christa, sorry to hear you're sick. I remember using a Z-pak before---it really did the trick for me after just a few days for a nasty sinus infection I had last year. I hope you feel better soon. ***For those of you in the US, I hope you had a Happy Independence day holiday. ** One year ago today I started spotting, felt feverish and just sick to my stomach and didn't even have a clue that I was about to miscarry. This day was a reminder of that but only for a moment. I have no doubt that my dh remembered it far before I did and he made sure to keep me busy and my mind on other things starting yesterday (July 3rd). He brought me a bouquet yesterday and a beautiful, touching card because July 3rd is the anniversary of the day we first met. Then this morning I woke up to hear him moving his stuff into my office. We spent most of the day moving furniture, boxes, books, computer, etc around (mostly he did but I helped with the packing/dusting/tidying)--making space for the nursery. It wasn't until we were deciding what to do for the evening that I remembered my miscarriage of last year. He asked me if we should light our fireworks that we still had from last year and I instantly flashed back to last year (spotting, fever, cramps and pain) but was silent. He knew what I was thinking about because he quickly said we should just go out to dinner and movie instead which is exactly what we did. We saw lots of fireworkds displays on our short drive home and pulled over to watch. It was bittersweet but perfect way to spend the July 4th evening for us. ***On a lighter note. . . .I'll reach my 20th week this week and since many of us are about the same point in our pregnancies I wanted to say congratulations to all of you ladies on reaching (or about to reach) the halfway mark!!!!

Forgot to mention new symptoms this week. . . . terrible lower back pain (left side only) and much stronger baby movements (one good strong kick as opposed to a flutter). Anyone else feeling new or different symptoms???

CHRISTA & PERL~Congrats on your screenings!!! I also hope you feel better soon Christa. The Z-pack's are good, but when I get a serious sinus infection, I know they don't help me. I usually need Augmentin, but I hope it works for you and you feel well soon. PERL~I'm 18 weeks Sunday, but the hospital had me at 19w last week, so I think I'm actually 20 this week. LOL. So freakin confusing!!! Anyway, still have the flutters - no real kicks just yet. I'm glad your hubby kept you busy and happy all day Perl. I'm sure that helped with the painful memories, but just think, this year you are actually going to have a healthy baby!!! ANNISHEL, AALEX and HAPPYGAL, how are all you ladies doing??

Interesting developement...yesterday morninging I weighed 1_5, last night I stepped on the scale 1_9. Ok fairly normal...this pm stepped ont he scale 1_2.5, a total gain from yesterday morning of 7.5 pounds. I have not eaten much today as I am still feeling ill. My fingers and feet are pretty swollen so I know it is water retention...but holy moly. I hope this isn't the beginning of me becoming pre eclamptic (again) Definately going to need to watch that!
