HOLY SH*T!... I am in preterm labor! I went in for my routine NST...didn't think too much of it. I did see that I had a contraction...no biggie...we get them all the time right?? I get a few BH's all the time...some days more than others. Well...she said they were going to check me because I was having contractions...I am 90% effaced and a finger tip dilated and a -3 station (good!). It is a tad too early. I need to get through 2 more weeks for comfort...wish me luck!...MEL...as for being smelly...I am like an old woman in a diaper....I leak so I wear a liner...and it is starting to get nasty!...c___p...I am so nervous...anxious...you name it!!!!!!! For some reason I thought you were due on November 9th. 34 weeks is early, but since your baby should be around 5 + pounds, she/he has a great chance of being perfectly fine. I had my first child at 29 weeks (she was 2 pounds 6 ounces when born) and I couldn't take her home until she hit the 5 pound marker (it took 2 full months of hospitalization in the NICU). The specialist I see says that as long as the baby is 5+ pounds and is breathing well on her own that she will be ready to go home. I hope that is your case if you can't hold her in for another 2 weeks. Good luck and keep your chin up if she/he decides to come anyways. Your baby will be fine.

Yikes Christa!!! What a shock this must be. But how exciting! What happens now? You're at home and waiting for contractions to get closer and stronger or lying down to try to slow them down?? How many centimeters is a finger tip (how dilated are you)? Sounds like things are happening!! Get as much rest as you can (if possible) to get ready for your big moment! Can't wait to hear your next update.

yes PERL....it is a bit freaky...I imagine a finger tip is a centimeter or so (so not too much) I am tring to keep myself in a comfy position, sitting ot laying. Tyring not to walk too much or too fast as this seems to bring on the tightness. I have had a few contractions since I have been home...really they are nothing and would normally go unnoticed or ignored...just BH's. Feel tight belly, like even baby shifting sides...nothing I would have ever thought much about. Now I am paranoid about every twinge. I just want to make it another 2 weeks....then anything goes...I'd prefer to wait until my new carpet is in though...lol so I can enjoy my house for a bit (the carpet gets installed on 11/2...can't wait) The house is being painted this weekend...almost as great as the new carpet! I'll type more tomorrow...I am off to bed for now....

Christa: sounds like you're going to have to do very little if you want to make it another two weeks. Don't even be tempted to lift a finger while house is being painted. My due date is 11/22, one day before yours and I'm thinking the first week of Nov would be great. I'd say 2nd week but my Dr. will be gone that week. Take it easy. Have you got your hospital bag all packed yet???? ***We're going to the Fire Department tomorrow with our new infant car seat to have them show us how to install it in my car. Don't know about you ladies but at my hospital ( I think all California hospitals), we can not take the baby outside the hospital unless the baby is in an appropriate infant car seat.*** I hope you all have a great weekend!

Wow, Christa you and I are kind of in the same boat. I haven't been to dr. (I go on Thursday) but I have been getting regular contractions for the last 4 days, every 8 minutes. Tightening of belly and feels as though baby shifts when it happens. It's not terribly painful but very uncomfortable. I also have alot of leaking (sorry TMI) and a lot of pressure down there. I'm trying to hold out until I go to dr. I did however go into labor with my 2nd child at 34 1/2 weeks and they had to stop the contractions. It was true labor full-b__wn also. Made it 2 more weeks after that, so it is possible to make it 2 more. ANNISHEL, I have a 9 year old daughter and a 2 year old daughter so I know how you feel. Now I am having my BOY and I'm getting a tubal during the c-section so I'm DONE. EXHAUSTED!!!!!!!!! Plus working full-time (i'm still at work even though I've been contracting) and taking care of a husband who is like a child sometimes takes alot out of a woman. I'm due Nov. 24th but scheduled c-section for Nov. 17th but really don't think I'll make it that long. We'll see.

Soontobemom**** I know exactly how you feel. I've been going through regular contractions, some very painful and the baby shifts or elbows/knees me. I haven't spotted or leaked, just have brownish discharge (which I think is the same thing?) and alot of weight on my pelvic bone. Since last night I've been suffering from crampiness when I walk also. Anyhoo, I'm trying to hold on for another week at the least to find out what my doc says. I'm supposed to go in for a section the second week of November, but I too don't think I'll make it until then.

So nice to hear good reports about such nice baby showers from you ladies: Mel, Anna & Kristin. Sounds like everyone got a lot of great gifts---yaaay!! ****Not much to report here, I had fun visiting with a few girlfriends. I noticed I get short of breath very easily now, my ankles and feet are still swelling and now my skin itches too! ****Christa: how are you progressing?? Have the contractions eased up any?

Hi everyone: I too had a great shower this Saturday. There were 30 family and friends at a local NYC restaurant. We got tons of great things, too...cloths, etc. My work shower was amazing as well, received some $200.00 in Baby's R Us gift cards! Went to Baby's this weekend and ended up buying more cloths for the first month (I received some really cute outfits that will fit 3-6 months, but not really enough for right away). Now all I have to do is wash them all! Perl: that's so cool that your b-day is November 14th, the day my C is scheduled! I knew there was something special about you!! Ha. Hope my baby is as smart and nice as seem to be. :-). Christa: You sound great, under the circ_mstances....think you are doing the right thing in laying as low as possible. Did your doc talk to you about magnesium and other options? They can also do an amnio to check lung development...that's what I'm doing on Nov. 13th. My due date is acutally November 25th. but my baby has always been a week or two ahead in weight and size. I'm REALLY huge, now....still have back pain. I'm happy to say my itching has finally stopped, thankfully. I have the feeling I might not make it either, but maybe that's normal...I hope I can hang in there. I'm still working, too..riding subway, bus and walking...not easy.

HappyGal: thank you for your kind words. Your baby will be awesome just for being like mommy! Wow, it seems this past weekend was the time for baby showers!! Amazing how many of you had them at the same time. HG, as much as I enjoyed opening gifts, the giftcards are a godsend!!! They allow you to gather them all together go buy the expensive items and exactly what you want from the store or online. I used up my Babies R Us gift cards right away and have yet to use my Target giftcards but plan to very soon. Everyone have fun washing, folding or hanging up the baby clothes and blankies and setting up the toys and other stuff that you got at your showers. And have fun shopping with the giftcards too! ***Forgot to mention before, I have my last cla__s tomorrow night called "Anesthesia Options". Other than setting up an appointment with lactation consultant that will be our last educational visit to the hospital. Next time we go after this cla__s, it will be for the real deal or D-Day!!

The baby showers sound fantastic!...I have not been laying as low as I probably should. There is just too much to do. Here in Phoenix it is finally starting to cool down enough that I had to go buy DS some long pants. If I bought them any earlier he wouldn't fit into them. My boy is a tall kid and grows way too fast. So off to the mall I went...I did walk slowly...lol and took a lot of breaks...like lunch at the Cheese Cake Fcatory...YUM. I have been having sporadic contractions...still feel like BH's...nothing regular or strong. I did have a sneezing fit this afternoon and could have sworn my plug was going to meet me the next chance I had at the potty. I am getting pretty swollen down there too. I wonder if I will make it to 36 or 37 weeks sometimes..(watch...I'll be the one who goes 2 weeks late...lol) Tomorrow is my next appt so I will find out more then. I'll post as soon as I can...Thanks everyone...

Had my appt...seems the Nurse Practiontioner was a tad generous with her effacemnt and dilation. Dr. seemed to think I am 70-80% effaced and closed...tried as she might to get her finger tip to fit...I am happy and sad about this. Happy that I can continue on with life...bummed because now maybe things arent rolling along quite as smoothly as I hoped. Other than that all is well...........
