You know Mel..I wish I did not have to lift a finger for this shower my MIL has planned ..cause that is how I feel these days unfortunately (TIRED). But the MIL is a little old school and knows nothing about putting on a shower. I feel I should help to pitch in, and I don't want to sound like a snot but otherwise we'd be eating lamb chops and beans with our fingers with different coloured Christmas napkins and mis matched plates that she has had lying around from the greek picnic.. it's sad but true. She is an amazing cook and nice person but even other parties she has had turn out that way.. I was brought up differently...My mother has told me to except whatever she has put together..but she keeps asking me what to do. To be honest I think this whole think is way over scaled. I prefer a small gathering of say 15 people tops (but I was never asked if I wanted the whole greek community coming. Even that takes alot of planning. For this shower~80people have been invited and about 65 will come. (about 12 are my friends and family) The people coming from her side will expect it to be nice and they will expect the party to be nice..and it should be..they are taking the time for my baby and they are spending good money on gifts..so that is why I have stepped in. I even mentioned to my guy about all the work i have done so far...he told me in the beginning I would not have to do a thing...not..I told him if I do not do it, it won't be done...OPA! Talk to you girls later!!

Hi everyone. Your showers sound like so much fun. But man... Perl... 36 thank you notes. What a drag :) It is not the custom to do showers here, but its cool, since I have enough stuff from prior children and no space to put anything else. Kristin - I hope you get a good report from your doctor - my best friend slipped on ice when she was 7 mos preg and broke BOTH her legs. Was in bed/casts until just before the birth. Only good part was getting to sue the govt, since it was a spill from something to do with the govt and she was on her way to work.
I dont know if you guys pay attention to these things but I just celebrated the Jewish Holiday of Yom Kippur, where I fasted (no food/drink) for 25 hours. We made it ok, and I pretty much rested the whole day. Glad that is over :).
So who on this list is due first / having a section first (other than alex) and whats our boy/girl breakdown? Be well...

Hi girls...Just back from yet another appt. BP is fine...Had yet another U/S. Baby is measuring 4.57 pounds. Doing fine. He is head down with his back towards the outside of my belly, looking at my spine. Biophysical profile was good. She had to "buzz" him inorder to wake him up ( I am not fond of the u/s tech that did it tho) she seems to be sort of half a__sed compared to the others. I am taking off of work starting Nov 1st (I am due 11/23) Results of my 24 hr urine were not as good as I would have liked. I am spilling protein in the urine. It is high at 234...norm being in the mid 100s. They said they aren't going to be concerned until it hits the 300's though. My creatinine clearance was also high. Kidneys are just taking a beating but still ok. My baby shower went better then I had hoped , I did get lots of very nice things. I still need to go shopping for some more stuff but all in all I am set. I am trying to get some painters in here so I can get my new carpeting. Hopefully that will all come very soon. My nesting is not coming cheap...LOL KRISTEN...glad to hear the ankle is getting better. I am sure your baby shower will be great, especially with all the worrk you are putting into it...LOL......MEL...loved the pics of your shower...can;t wait to see pics of Aubrey...beautiful name!....PERL...what are they saying about all your swelling? I hope they are keeping a close eye on it. I had more swelling with my 1st too...wonder if the body just reacts???...HAPPY...keep popping the PEPCID...it wont hurt he baby and only helps you. I prefer ZANTAC myself. It worked on my ulcer better than pepcid...btu I think for the most part they are about the same...so long as it works....ANNISHEL....happy belated YOM KIPPUR!!!...LOL...Now eat like there is no tomorrow...LOL
Take care ladies....

CHRISTA: sorry to hear about your protein levels but it's good that you're Dr's say it's not quite raising the red flag--good that it's not worse and good that you're being watched. How cool that you know an estimated weight for your baby. I wish I could say the same. I'm worried my little guy is too big already. I don't look pregnant from behind but if you look at my profile--wow!--it's quite a large belly. I have no update on the swelling but I'll be seeing the OB on Thursday. HAPPYGAL: I think our showers were a little early. I was asked to set the date for my shower and I said any date before October 14th because I didn't want to be doing any more baby shopping at 36+weeks into pregnancy. I thought I could get away with one baby shower but my SIL told me she is planning a baby shower/tea party for me in October but only the SILs and sisters are invited--about 8 women. My book club had a surprise baby shower for me last Thursday. It was such a surprise, that I didn't even show up because I didn't have a clue about it--not until they called me after the book club meeting had started and they realized that no one in the club took charge of making sure that I would be there and they called me when I didn't show up and told me. They had the baby shower without me---oops! Ha ha!! It's sad but funny at the same time. They are going to meet me this weekend to gift me their gifts. About Pepsid AC. . .I finished an entire bottle of it already plus a lot of Zantac so we're in the same boat. Oddly though I have not had any acid reflex in days. Does this mean my baby is dropping and putting less pressure on my stomach?*** KRISTIN: OMG, sounds like a sequel to a popular movie that you could call "My Big, Fat, Greek, Baby Shower" 65 people?! Holy cow! Open your gifts while people are eating because it could very well take you 2 hours just to open gifts unless they pool their money together for big gifts or give you gift cards. ***ANNISHEL: Happy Yom Kippur (belated)! How faithful of you to fast for that long. My church pastor asked our church members to go on a 7 day fast but he made an exception for diabetics and pregnant women--whew! I would have attempted it but it would have been difficult for me to do. And about the thank you cards--yup, I have to get moving on all 36 of them and I made the mistake of deciding to make the cards by hand using 3 different colors of paper, rubber stamps, dye ink, glitter pens and markers. I might give up and just go and buy some cards. I'm having a boy and he's due 11/22 but for some reason I feel that he may come a little sooner. ****My little guy is signed up to do some acting in a Christmas play as baby Jesus. It's a huge production that sells out in my city every year with about 100 member orchestra and 150 member choir. Will it be too soon if he's born on his due date 11/22 and his "performance" is on 12/9? He's already used to my very loud piano (but I'm sure it sounds muffled through the amniotic fluid) but I'm not sure if the orchestra music may be too much. (?)

Thanks everyone, for your thoughts on Pesid, et al. Perl: 7 day fast!! Wow, yeah, we jews have a hard enough time with 24-hours. I skipped it all together this year (Maybe last, too :/). MY BACK IS KILLING ME! Had to stay home yesterday, couldnt' walk...went to chiropractor (sp?) and think it "might" have helped a little...at work today, but still moving very slowly and w/some pain. Left side...back and him and yes, kind of shoots down leg, so maybe Sciatica. Any suggestions, thoughts on those maternity braces/belts. I have to do SOMETHING.

CHRISTA~Sorry to hear about the protein and creatinine, but I have to say I am really surprised that your doctor has not written you out of work. With all your symptoms, I would have thought for sure that your doctor would write you out, but I guess if they say that you shouldn't worry yet, then you shouldn't, but it does sounds to me that you are definitely having signs of becoming preeclamptic. What do you think?I had all the same signs last time and I was written out of work at I think my 32nd week and delivered at 35. I'm glad to hear that the baby is doing lovely and growing great. The most important thing is that the baby is doing just fine. PERL~How was your appointment today??

OH, and (perl) and others. My OB. measures baby head w/ultrasound (I get one every visit, so every week, now!!!). My little guy is 4 pounds 13 ounces (probably 5 by now) and is in teh 77% for his gestational age. OB also said that he had a "big head circ_mference" (measuring at 36 weeks already)! I of course started to worry somethign was wrong.....etc. Anyway, plan is to go for Amnio at 37 weeks and if lungs are mature, I can give birth ANYTIME thereafter. Seems like I might be able to meet my little Elie as early as November 5. Pretty cool

Well, today I had my ob appt. but she was not in, so I saw the pract_tioner, who is fantastic. My b/p is excellent and I gained 3 lbs. in the last 3 weeks since I was there last, which is not too bad for me, but I had a trace of protein in my urine. I asked her if this meant that I'm bound to become preeclamptic, but she says no. I guess sometimes it's normal at this stage to have a tiny bit, plus she gave me a culture due to some odor issues I've been having and wanted to make sure I don't have an infection. She said if I did have an infection, that could also have something to do with the protein too, but not to worry about it. I told her I drink at least 8 cups of water a day, so there's not more I can do there. Anyway, they will get my culture back by Tuesday I think. If it's abnormal they will call me she said, so we'll see. Anyway, baby's h/b was at 153 and everything is going great. The only other weird thing was the last time I was there 3 weeks ago when I was 28 weeks, I measured 28 on the fundal height, now here it is 3 weeks later and she only measured me at 29??? I asked the nurse later if that's normal that it's only an inch higher in 3 weeks and shouldn't I be closer to 31 or even 32 seeing as how I'm 31w/4d today? She claims it's normal and not to worry, which normally I would, BUT I have another Level 2 Tuesday and I will make sure she is still growing good at that appointment. Other than all that, everything going great and I'm doing good too. The pract_tioner felt the baby and said she is lying in a transverse position. I can tell because my movements are more to the sides of my belly now than when they were on top of my belly before. Can they change positions daily or weekly do you think? Because sometimes one day the movements are high and other days or even the same day they are low and to the sides. Well, I just wanted to update you ladies. Have a super day!! xo

HAPPYGAL~What week are you in now and why the amnio to check the lungs? Are you having a section? Gosh, I hope they don't want to give me one, because I will say no. My section is on for 11/27. I wouldn't worry about the head either. I'm sure there is NOTHING wrong or they would have told you. Some babies just have larger heads than others, which I a__sume if you deliver v____ally that that would suck. LOL. Also, I LOVE my maternity belt!!

Melly: WHAT BRAND IS YOUR BELT????
My OBGYN is a high risk guy and he likes to be very safe. The amnio is harmless at this stage...even if it does induce labor, 37 weeks is considered full-term. Still the reason for it is that some baby's, even at 37 weeks, have lujngs that are slightly behind.....they may NEED that extra week or two and amnio can show that. On the other hand, if the baby's lungs ARE fully developed, then there's no reason to wait.

Happygal~My belt is Motherhood Maternity and I think I paid like $15.00 for it or something like that. Also, is your sections scheduled for week 37? I'm figuring that is why the amnio? I will be at 39 weeks, so I'm figuring I will not need one.

Thank you Christa for the reminder. I had my 33 week appointment today. My Dr. said there was nothing else I could do about my fat legs and feet except elevate my feet and reduce my salt intake. She said some women actually leak fluid from their ankles--that would be a weird thing to see! MEL: Good luck on the culture for infection. I hope it goes well. It doesn't seem that the baby could be changing positions as often as every day because there's not much space at this stage that they are bigger. I clearly remember feeling some MAJOR baby movements about 3 weeks ago and specifically telling my husband "I think the baby just flipped sides and did a sommersault" and I think I was right because before that the baby was in breech position (b___t down) and shortly after feeling the big baby movement I was told that he was in a vertex (head down) position. You'll probably feel a big move too when baby gets head down. BTW, I beat you on the weight gain this time!!! I gained 5 pounds in 3 weeks and I'm finally up closer to a 25 lb weight gain so I can stop stuffing my face now and stop worrying about having a scrawny, malnourished baby. Anyway, my stats today: good blood pressure (on the low side of average), baby heart rate of 155 bpm, and measuring 34 cm. He's measuring 1 week ahead (3 weeks ago he was 2 weeks ahead). Also, Dr told me she could feel A LOT more than the usual amount of amniotic fluid around the baby. She said more was better than not enough and one big danger is the baby can have a difficult time getting head down but mine already is head down so no worries. The other bad thing is that when my water breaks, I will make a huge mess. Scary--guess I better stop wearing skirts or start wearing extra thick maxi pads close to my due date.
