im so sory to hear that daffy. i am due november 20 and have been having trouble since my 2nd appointment. The good news is that the baby looks to be fine which is all i can ever hope for but ill tell you what happened and you can be the judge of if medical testing helps or hinders in most cases. so i went in at 10 weeks and my lovely doctor couldnt find the heartbeat with a doppler even though the previous week when I had come in for cramping, they found it fine. they decided to do an ultrasound, which showed the baby jumping around all cute totally happy and healthy. then the doctor decided to tell me it looked like the baby had downs. didnt tell me about how it was actually too early to do the NT scan, or what "soft marker" meant, any of that, just told me "it looks liek your baby has downs, well test in 2 weeks" and that there was blood clots on the placenta not telling me anything except when my high risk appointment was. So i wait those awful 2 weeks and go in for the NT scan, and it turns out to be just fine!! but then the doctor there told me it looked like i had a blood clot or fibroid or tumor but it was noton the placenta. but that y doctor would do another u/s and tell me for sure. They allso did first trimester blood screening, which thankfully came back normal. 2 weeks later i went back again to my regular practice and the doctor this time wasnt even going to look at it. i askled and then they decided they were going to do an u/s but i had to wait an hour because someone was having an amnio done. so they did it and the lump was gone the baby was fine but they said i have borderline placenta previa which usually will correct itself. then they asked if I was going to have them do the AFP, the one with all of the false positives. all i could say was f*ck NO!! im switching doctors for my 20 week appointment from now on i will be going to my best friends mom who is a well known obstetrician. good riddence to my doctors! im freaking done worrying, to make things worse, my fther pa__sed away the day after the one doctor said the baby minght have downs what a horrible day. whew! I hope from here on out its smooth sailing.

Venus, I'm sorry that you lost your father during your pregnancy. My sympathies to you. As to whether medical tests are helpful or just a hindrance. . . quite contrary to your "normal" and "fine" NT scan & blood results, Daffy's odds were discouraging enough to indicate that she needed a diagnostic test---amniocentesis. I don't blame you for opting against the AFP. The AFP is a mere screening and has a high margin of error compared to the NT Scan & blood test. AFP and the Combined NT Scan/blood test are mere screenings not diagnostic at all (but NT/Blood Screening is much more accurate). Amnio on the other hand is actually a diagnostic test. It diagnoses fetal problems with near 100% accuracy and few false positives and to suggest otherwise does not make any sense nor is it helpful to Daffy at this extremely difficult time for her. While I sympathize with your situation, placenta previa, clots and potential tumors don't pose as high a risk as what Daffy is facing right now. I hope you find a better physician very soon. I think Kristin hit the nail on the head: I too, applaud you Daffy for taking control of your situation to go forward with early detection tests. In Daffy's case, while the results are almost certainly NOT good and doctors are warning that the baby likely will not survive, I can't see how having this advance knowledge is a hindrance. With this knowledge, Daffy can prepare for the worst, come to terms with what may inevitably happen next, get DNA testing on herself and her husband to see if this problem could potentially happen again in a future pregnancy and if so look into other alternatives for expanding her family. Daffy, again I say I'm very sorry. None of us want to hear bad news about our babies but for many of us, this is the very reason why we get early screening and diagnostics--so that we can proceed in a way that will be best for everyone whose lives will be affected by the outcome (baby and parents). Good for you and your husband in being proactive in gettting DNA testing done now. I'm praying for you. Daffy, please stay with us so we can all give you the support you are going to need in the coming weeks and months.

Venus: I'm sorry too if I misunderstood and if my words were too harsh. I realize that what you've gone through is upsetting. I really hope you get better and more reliable information from all of your doctors from now on and that the placenta previa doesn't pose too great a problem for you.****How's everybody else doing?*** I had a prenatal appointment yesterday. This time my OB was able to locate the baby's heartbeat right away. She said it sounded like the baby's heartbeat was strong and baby was very active. My AFP screening is next week and then level 2 u/s is in 5 weeks from today---I'm not looking forward to drinking a ton of water to fill my bladder before that one. I did my oath of office and swearing in this morning and am so full of mixed feelings. I'm so excited to find a company or government agency that needs a new attorney so I can dive into work fast but on the other hand I'm sad because I don't think anyone would want to hire a pregnant woman who's going to take an extended maternity leave in 5 months (I'm not the type of person who would try to hide that kind of information in an interview.) For now, I'm just going to enjoy my freedom and my pregnancy and see what happens next. **My OB talked to me about "round ligament" pain--the strange pain and pulling feelings like strong cramps I've been feeling. Is anyone else feeling it too?

PERL~I have not had any round ligament pain yet, but you are further than me I believe, BUT, I did feel the baby move!! I was standing in line paying for new tires I just got on my suv and I felt like a whirling in my tummy and it was not gas. I know what gas feels like. So I waited a minute and I felt this twirling feeling again. I have not felt it since, but I just know for sure it was the baby. It was so cool. I can't wait until you can really feel it. It must have been lying in a way that I could feel it I guess, because I know I'm kind of early to feel movement, but let me tell you, I did! I'm doing much better these days as far as the m/s. I don't have new news until I see my doctor next Thursday. I hope you are all doing well and will pray for all of our babies!! XO

perl - yes definitely round ligament pain/. I knew that had to be what it was... i felt these *weird* cramps on either side of my lower abdomen almost comparable to a mild charley horse except not in your leg... and sometimes when you cough or sneeze it cramps up. at first it freaked me out but then I read in a book about stretching pain and that HAS to be what it is.

Gosh Happygal, this is the 2nd time you mention that people aren't responding to your posts. I'm sure that I have and other Nov mommies have responded to your comments and asked about you in the past, I'm sorry that you feel you're being consistently overlooked so much so that you want to abandon this thread. Of course, it's entirely your choice but I sincerely hope that you reconsider and decide to stay with us and continue to give us your valued feedback. You are right I did overlook your May 30 response, not intentionaly but because the very next person to post immediately after you posted a very shocking and tragic update(Daffy). I guess I got so caught up in Daffy's as well as Venus' more serious problems that I completely forgot that I ever mentioned my own relatively insignificant cramping or round ligament pain. ****Anyway, thanks for your responses, it's rea__suring that I'm not the only one feeling it as a couple of you out there at least are having the same cramps/pains. Otherwise, I'd feel that something is wrong with me. Venus: it's been allergy season for me since April so I know what you mean by cramping up while sneezing. I have tried to modify my sneezes to very quiet ones so I won't feel like I'm injuring myself while sneezing. Mel: My little one is also a twirly acrobat and I seem to feel it most while lying on my back or leaning forward slightly while I sit (often while playing the piano). Maybe he/she is dancing to the music. : ) Does anyone happen to know if he/she can even hear my music or my voice yet? My guess is not yet but but maybe the musical vibrations can be felt. (?) BTW, I'm at 15 w 2d today. ***Happy Friday everybody!

Hi. I will respond to Daffy in the new post special to her, but wanted to take the opportunity to send my warmest for your happiness and well being.
Since we have been doing this post for a while, and I jumped on board at some time, can we just remind everyone where we are holding, and when due? I am probably the last in this thread, since due Nov 30th :). I am 14 w 2 days, and this is Saturday. I see that Perl wrote that she is 15 w 2 days on Friday - so you are due Nov 21st? I have felt no stretching and NO MOVEMENTS - this is a 4th child and I am completely paranoid.... anyone else feeling NOTHING? Oh and I eat plenty of sugar so no worries there :). Speak to you soon.

Hi Annishell don't worry about feeling no movement yet, as it's still kind of early. Even though this is your fourth, maybe this baby is just a little less active than the rest of your babies were or is a late starter. BTW my due date is Nov 22.

Hi Girls~My due date is suppose to be Nov 21st..I think that makes me 15 weeks-3 days today :). Next week I have my second round of blood work... Around June 24th, I will have another ultrasound. At that time I think they can try s_xing my baby. I am unsure as to whether I will find out the s_x. Of course, the curiosity is there..but seeing that this would be my first child I'd like a surprise the old fashioned way too..who know's what I will do..How about everyone else? I am still upset about Daffy's news. My heart goes out to her for this coming Monday :( I hope everyone else is doing just fine. I do not have round ligament pain. Sometimes I have pain early in the morning before emptying my bladder..but that quickly subsides. Still loving my doppler...I can't say enough about the rea__surance this gives me. It also helps with bonding as I can find the little one and sometimes I take a guess exactly where it is and I am right...other times I have to wiggle around to find the little beater. To all the other ladies...christa, annishel, happpygal,MellyMel, Perl, aalexand, venus_in_scorpio...update when you can because sometimes we all just get caught up in out own situations..and just because we do not ask or reply directly to you it does not mean we do not read your threads because WE DO..and we do care very much about your progress with your pregnancies..changes however big or small it is enlighten us all... Hope everyone else is doing GREAT! We need to be here for each other..through thick and thin...have a great weekend and like annishel mentioned due date reminders would be great!!
XO
Kristin

Hi Girls~ question..do any of you live in Canada? If not have any of you opted for the IPS..(Integrated Prenatal Screening which has a part 1:11-13w6d and part 2 between 15 w and 10w6d? Most of you have had your nt and a blood test (FTS)..but are any of you have the second round of blood tests between 16-18 weeks? I have mine next week..These tests are suppose to give you..a more accurate indication of DS and T18 and screen for open neural tube defects..I read it has the highest detection rate of all tests and the lowest false positive. In Canada, we can have these tests for free..whereas, other places they have to pay extra for these tests...Anyway, I was just wondering...if and when anyone else was doing these dtests and how their results were..and if not what other tests do you have planned if any? I also have another ultrasound around June 24th I think that is my 19-20 week ultrasound.
Hope everyone is doing well...update ;).
