Hi Perl : ) Sounds like you're doing fine. Re : Being paranoid --- I know aht you mean, I'm quite a paranoid freak myself especially being a first time mommy. Lately ... I've been pararnoid about not gaining enough weight, what are stuffs I should prepare/buy, going into labour, how to take care of a new born, b___stfeeding etc etc etc. Thanks for the asurrance, was worried for awhile even though my ob/gynae said I was doing fine, most of my girlfriends gain at least 10 lbs when they were in their 20th week, I seem to be the odd one out. I think it's great to have MIL's help. We're planning on asking my MIL to stay over for a couple weeks cos my mom can only be around for the first week or so she's helping my brother out babysitting his kids. Re : Names .... My Dh was thinking, it's either Isabelle (which we had picked last year) or Zoe (which Kristin had named her baby girl ... I think it's such a pretty name). My MIL is not too fond about us naming our baby girl Isabelle ... she thinks it might be jinx. No decision made yet ... still looking for a pretty name. Meanwhile my Dh has been caling our little girl, "Princess", when he talks to her and she seems to respond to his voice with some movements (pretty faint though) .... he's so cute when he talks to his "little princess" asking her to "kick" for Daddy : ) : ) : ) Are you back to your pre-pregnancy weight yet?

That is so cute that you dh is talking to your baby girl. I was so glad that my dh talked to my belly and made strange foghorn noises too (often to get the baby to kick for me when I was worried that he was not moving enough in my belly). After my c-section the baby was alone with my husband for about 20 minutes and I like to think that the sound of my husband's voice soothed the baby until I was wheeled back into the recovery room. I don't know if they can recognize voices that early but I think they do. ****About my weight. . .no I wish I was back to pre-pregnancy weight. By the end of the pregnancy I had gained 30 pounds. I lost 15 pounds immediately after the baby was born and then have lost 5 more so I still have 10 more pounds to lose. My belly is still shrinking very slowly but I think I still look a little pregnant. : ) Trying: has your belly flattened out to where you were before getting pregnant. I'm wondering how long it will take. I never got that linea nigra but my belly b___ton looked black after the baby was delivered. Kind of weird looking like a big bruise.

Perl ---- I think you're doing really well just 10 pounds to go. Talking about linea nigra, mine's pretty visiable and it's running all the way up now (just below my bbs). That's so sweet ... your Dh had the bonding time right after little Peter was born. Re : New Daddies and Daddies to be ... they are so cute aren't they. I'm so amused by my Dh's "baby talk" when he talks to his little princess, there's something new everyday. Trying ---- Hear from you soon.

Whew! Here I am! This back to work stuff is STRESSFUL. My little Katie is refusing to take a bottle...fortunately she started at the daycare across the street so I have been able to go over. Monday/Tuesday I will not be so close to her! I am about 1lb from my pre-baby weight and been holding close to that for a few weeks...not dieting or exercising, just b___stfeeding. Who has time to exercise!? I am amazed at how the weight fell off. My stomach "skin" is still not "right"...kind of just hangs there. Yick. I don't know if toning exercises will help or not and am too tired with too few hours in the day to find out! Possibility of working part-time is still out there (with the company I am already with), although it freaks my husband out. Katie KNEW both of our voices the instant she arrived...it was awesome. She would turn her eyes/head toward us...people were amazed. She has been very alert since her arrival...she was holding her head up before we took her home.

Trying, I'm so impressed that you've lost nearly all the weight already. I'm concerned about the roundish look of my belly and hope it flattens so I don't look pregnant anymore soon. About baby bottles have you tried using different bottle styles that are most like the shape/feel of an actual b___st. I'm still supplementing (although very little) and use the "Breastflow" bottle by the First Years company. Have you tried that one? I know each baby is different though and so hopefully through trial and error you'll find a bottle that is acceptable to Katie. Babies can be so choosy! My little guy gets so upset when we try to fake him out with a pacifier. I can't get over how funny this is. He gets such a look of disgust on his face, pushes it out with his tongue and lets out a very frustrated cry. ***Sann: your dh sounds like he will be a good daddy since he already talks to the baby and calls her little princess--how sweet. And of course, we all know you'll be a great mommy.

Perl - I have heard of that bottle on the forums but can't find it around here. She has taken 3 oz without blinking an eye from the Playtex Nurser with fast flow nipple...so I think it is "preference"...not ability! She took 2 bottles today - 1 with 2oz of formula, one with 3oz of bm. Maybe she doesn't like the daycare...who could blame her! :-)

Sann: no news other than regular pregnancy discomforts is great news. All is well over here. I'm getting stronger but still a little sore from the c-section. Baby Peter is growing bigger and I'm trying to get ready for Christmas which is sneaking up on me very quickly.

Trying: I'm only pumping about 1 ounce of bm per b___st in 15 minutes. I'm week 5 does this sound like too small an amount to you? It seems to satisfy baby for 2 hours but I had a really tough time this morning when I tried to eliminate his 2 oz formula supplement.

Perl - are you pumping and giving by bottle only? Just curious. As for an answer...I think that varies per mom. I talked to a lactation consultant yesterday about lil Katie not taking bottle and told her I had pumped 9oz the day before and she said that was GREAT that many moms experience exactly what you are describing. She said some moms need visual stimulation (like a picture of their little one) and that some need something totally distracts them from the pumping (like a magazine). I used to look at Katie when I was at home, when I pumped. I keep pictures of her with me. Yesterday I pumped 6oz at one time! I was in the nursery at the hospital and their was a newborn crying the whole time. Talk about a big help! Have you looked at Kellymom.com to see if there are any suggestions for expressing?

Katie has the "crud"...not an infection just cough and runny nose. I took her to the doctor because daycare said she had a low grade fever this morning. She weighs 11 1/2 pounds.

Hi ladies : ) Perl ... glad to hear you are healing well and little Peter is doing great : ) Trying ... Wow : ) Little Katie is11 1/2 pounds. Hope she feels better. I heard from my girlfriends, it pretty common for babies and toddlers to catch coughs and colds easily during their first few weeks in daycare cos they are adjusting to the new environment etc. Re : BF, sounds really tough to me. Nothing new from me, just regular discomforts and feeling my princess doing her "workouts" : ) Have a nice weekend.

Trying: I'm supplementing with bottles in addition to b___stfeeding sessions. The bottles help when I'm feeling sore but I try to keep the bottles to a minimum. Sann & Trying: the Nov mommies are moving over the the "Infant Care" thread so please come chat with me over there too if you feel like it. I'll still come back and check up with you here though. I'm anxious to see Sann & Hopeful through to delivery dates and hear your progress and to continue to compare notes with Trying. Just letting you ladies know where I'll be in addition to here.

Perl - do you pump when he takes a bottle? I found it to be double work, but I didn't have problems with soreness. Do you have any lanolin ointment or cream? That seemed to help. At the beginning I rubbed b___stmilk on my nipples EVERY time she fed...it is supposed to help too.

Trying: pump at the same time as b___stfeeding or afterwards? Yes, I bought the Lansinoh you recommended a while back, it works well. I've discovered that baby Peter takes his gulps of milk and then when he feels satisfied he partly closes his mouth and switches to the nipple only and that's when it hurts so I have to watch him like a hawk to make sure he doesn't do that. It's tough to watch in the dark though.
