Hi Trying. Glad to hear I'm not the only one waking 3-5 times a night. I get so confused when I read about other 4 and 5 month olds sleeping 6-10 hours through the night and makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong. But on second thought I would not give up the closeness I feel with my little guy and the security I give him by responding to his needs. * I'm mostly focusing on Peter and being a mommy but I have written a few legal doc_ments for friends and acquaintances from my computer at home. That's all I'm willing to take on right now. ***Milestones. . .I'd say the greatest one now is that Peter is doing a pretty good job at sit ups or stomach crunches anyway he manages to get halfway up and prefers to be sitting up rather than lying down or reclined. And yes, he's a chunky boy with rolls of baby fat on his little legs and on his chin but as cute as a b___ton and all smiles and squeals except for a few hours when he gets sick during the evening or night. He's also spending more time taking in his surroundings. How cute that Katie is enjoying her toes and rolling over. I'm worried about rolling over since Peter does not like tummy time much and that's when they learn to rollover right? It'll happen eventually.

Perl - I know what you mean about the other babies sleeping - I read an article that some parents EXAGERATE how much their babies actually sleep at night, like some badge of good parenting. That made me feel better! :-) I am going to start Katie on "foods" now that she is hitting the 6mo mark. I have had a LOT of people pushing rice cereal so she would sleep but for us I wanted to remain strictly b___stmilk as I felt like that was better for her than the empty calories of rice "just to fill her up". I at least had the American Pediatric a__sociation in my favor and my husbands support. :-)

I am actually going to skip rice I believe. She has had if off and on over the last 4 months and never had a problem with it. I am going to move forward to oatmeal. I am worried about constipation as you know bf babies haven't had to "work" at pottying. I think oatmeal is supposed to be "easier" that way. I guess I will start a veggie this weekend.

Don't worry about rolling either - she is very inconsistent about it...but is pretty mobile somehow anyway!

I wondered to myself if some people might be exaggerating. I'm sure some do but I don't consider it a badge of good honor. I consider some babies more sleepy or mellow. I'm sure I have a bubbly and active little one on my hands and then there's also the acid reflux. In other words we all have different circ_mstances. I'd like to know how it goes with the oatmeal and vegetable. We tried rice cereal too and it didn't fill him up or make him sleep longer or reduce his vomitting so we stopped and will try again later. Let me know how it goes with the oatmeal okay? Peter had his 4 month well-check today. 16.8 pounds abd 27 1/2 inches that puts him in the 97%ile for height I guess he's a tall baby and his thighs sure are chubby to but I'm glad because his fat was a buffer for the injections. : )

Perl - wow - he has PASSED Katie - don't know exactly what she weighs, but weighing with me it shows around 14.5lbs. I was reading on a sleep site (guy named Sears) that said active babies have a hard time settling down for sleep - so maybe that is part of what our "circ_mstance" is. Katie doesn't MISS a thing! She is constantly looking around and checking everything out. We do her 6mo stuff at the end of the month. I tried the oatmeal with bananas after tasting the plain oatmeal (it tasted like cardboard and she would not eat it)...the oatmeal with bananas seems to smell better (haven't tried it yet) but she seemed to like it better...should be sweeter I would think.

Trying: would you happen to remember the url for that sleep site. I have a book Baby Sleep book by Drs. Sears. They are more in line with the way I think than some other books like On Becoming Baby Wise which really pushes no co-sleeping, no rocking and crying it out. I'll look up the site but just in case I can't find it, pa__s it along if you remember it please. ***Yes, Peter is a big little boy. He's not too chubby like some babies I've seen but he is tall. Quite a few inches taller than my cousin's baby even whose baby was born just one week later than mine. My dh is 6'3'' so it looks like we can expect little Peter to have his daddy's height and the weight just goes along with that besides boys are supposed to be bigger than girls right. : ) Where is Sann? Is she posting somewhere else do you think?

tryingx3 - March 20

no idea about SANN! I hope she is okay. askdrsearsDOTcom. You will probably see on bf forum - Katie was SICK, SICK, SICK this weekend. Stomach virus - we ended up in ER for fear of dehydration. It was HORRIBLE! Yick!

tryingx3 - March 20

I put a question on 3rd trimester board looking for SANN.

Perl - March 24

I only have a minute so I'll get back to the bf section later but just want to say sorry Katie was that sick that you had to go to ER. Has the virus pa__sed now and did she dehydrate? Poor baby--how did she get it? Do you know of anyone else that was sick? Let me know if you get a response from Sann. I'll try to catch you on bf section or here again later.

Our greatest gift - March 24

Hi, I am currently pregnant and I truly believe that Vitex works.....

tryingx3 - March 26

No news from SANN - Katie is better now. Stomach virus hit the daycare center. She developed some kind of cough and runny nose next...I think it is getting bettter. Runny nose is clear so I have not taken her back to the doctor, although I don't like the cough. She is back to her "normal" sleeping habits - nursing every 2 hours at night! Peter doing any better at that department?

Perl - March 28

So sorry for poor Katie getting sick like that. Most of my friends kids get sick after they've been in daycare. I have been so reluctant to put Pete into daycare at the gym or at church up to this point but sooner or later I'm going to have to cave in. I'll just wait until cold and flu season is over. Pete started sleeping 5 - 5 1/2 consecutive hours at night last week--WOO HOO! I still wake up every 2 hours when he stirs or whimpers thinking he's going to wake but then he stops crying after only a few seconds and goes back to sleep. But at least I'm getting a little more rest at night. But last night he was screaming in pain for some reason. He vomited and pa__sed a lot of gas so I blame it on whatever was in my lunch crepe at a French restaurant (probably some weird French cheese or something). Whatever it was made him ga__sy and triggered the reflux again. I hope that tonight we get back to the 5 hour sleep stretch. I worry about my milk supply though because he's eating a lot less. Did Katie start to eat less at the 5 month mark?

tryingx3 - March 29

Katie has gone through phases - but if I remember correctly around the 5 mo mark I started waking up with my shirt wet around the 5mo mark. I couldn't figure it out - she wasn't really sleeping much more...so I didn't know if she was taking less or I was making more!

tryingx3 - March 30

She weighed 15 1/2 lbs today and was 26 7/8" long. She said she should be able to go all night (or until early morning) without eating. I don't want to let her CIO.

Perl - March 30

Trying: Pete's pediatrician told me at his 4 month appointment that he should be going to bed at around 7 pm at night then I should wake him for a feeding at about 10:00 pm and that should be all the feeding until 7 am. HA! The best I've been able to do is down by 8:00, feeding at 10pm, 4 am and 7 am and that's only been a handful of nights so far. Dr. said that parents "create a monster" between 4 and 7 months if they allow their babies to feed every time they wake up in the middle of the night. He only wakes up because he wants to be fed not rocked or cuddled and I refuse to do CIO. I've only done that when I felt REALLY tired and frustrated and needed a small (very small break) like 5-10 minutes. My friend let her baby boy (he's 10 months old now) CIO when he was 8 months old and she said he cried one night for 50 minutes!! It broke her heart but she was happy that after 3 nights of that he was sleeping through without any night feedings. But now at 10 months he's teething and they are back to square one. Now she's upset that she had to go through all of that to have it only work for about 6 weeks. Do you think we'll ever hear from Sann again? I hope she's ok.
