I have mixed feelings about 1st trimester bed rest and whether it really changes the outcome, successful or unsuccesful...know what I mean? I don't mean to sound negative, but know it would not have changed the outcome of my first pg. I guess it all depends on what the "problem" is... I can understand bed rest later when there is placenta previa, bp issues, pre-term labor, etc... I do know that if nothing else 1st semester bed rest allows you to know that you have done all you can do and not play the "what if I hadn't gone to work that day"...etc... mind games. As for going fast, I told my husband that I didn't expect ANYTHING to happen fast for us. :-) He is planning a golf outing tomorrow - about 30 minutes away - WHILE I am at work - AT the hospital I plan to deliver at. I told him to go and not to worry!

I've never been put on bedrest and don't know anyone who has either so I don't know enough about it. It sounds like a combination of spotting and hormone injections require bedrest. In some cases I guess it doesn't really help but it doesn't cause any damage either. That's great to work at the hospital where your'e delivering. I already told my dh to get his fishing trips and long distance trips (business and leisure) out of the way because come mid October he'll be stuck close to home. 30 minutes is not too bad--you sound pretty sure about nothing going fast. That way you won't be disappointed. : )

Perl - my husband travels a LOT and I told him to cancel his September trip all together! Ha ha. Before we got pg he didn't really understand why I would feel that way...now he is worried about going 30 minutes from me...or even to mow the yard! Ha Ha! I got in a fight with my stomach last night - ha ha! I could NOT get comfortable...even sitting on the couch. I had to sit on the very edge as upright as possible to be "comfortable". I had issues getting comfortable in bed too...usually I am propped up because of acid reflux...but had my bulging stomach fighting me last night too! I guess she is packing on the pounds - or maybe I am!! :-)

Trying: sorry to hear your acid reflux isn't letting up. I've heard of women who gave up trying to sleep lying down in bed and sleep in a recliner or propped up in bed instead--like what you did. I had to give up salsa, chili peppers and tomatoey pasta sauces which is normally what I eat every day. :( It helps a lot but I still have the problems from time to time. I think that's sweet of your husband to worry about being more than 30 min away. My little one was being a rollie pollie last night we had fun watching my belly bulge up on the right side then on the left side--funny stuff. I just hope the movements won't hurt too much later on when baby is bigger---are your baby's movements painful for you at this point?

Perl - yes, I've avoided acidic foods, pizza, spaghetti sauces (all part of my regular "diet)....ha ha... So cool you guys are watching you little one roll - pretty neat. I do not have a great deal of discomfort when she moves nor have I had the foot under the rib cage yet. I do sometimes tell my husband that I feel like I have a "belly full of bones"...but it isn't "painful"...just a bit uncomfortable at times. I think she grew yesterday or something!!

Perl - September 8

Trying: funny you mentioned you think your little girl grew. I was thinking the same about my little guy the past two days. Now that he's bigger I can feel-- it feels like shaking or a quick quivering instead of kicks and rolls. Kind of like when you watch a flower bloom or see a plant shaking as it's leaves uncurl and it grows. Then when you see the belly is bigger that confirms it, right? Anyway, if you don't hear from me again until next week, I hope you have a nice weekend!

Perl - I'm back!! Well - exam today showed NO CHANGE! I guess she is in there for the LONG HAUL - ha ha. Oh well...we knew our due date was pretty much right on with ovulation... I am still working, still feel good, so not going to complain. Of course, once I start complaining that will probably be a GOOD sign that things are moving along! Hope you had a good weekend. SANN? SANN? SANN???

Perl - September 11

No change is good for now. You're right, things will get moving soon enough. I'm feeling hormonal today and it didn't help that my dh chose yesterday to discuss or rather argue with me about things that can wait until later. I feel like taking off for the week but I have too many appointments and work to do this week. : ( I'm hoping for a better day tomorrow. Sann: are you still getting headaches and nausea??? What's going on?

tryingx3 - September 11

I have been watching the clock today myself - plenty to do, but all desk work, which doesn't pa__s time too quickly - 4 more days to go this week! My dh likes to discuss BIG things about the time I am ready to doze off on the couch for the night!! :-)

Feeling much better today. I went and spent the day yesterday shopping. I was on the hunt for a diaper bag but ended up buying a few other things and shopped until my feet gave up. I bought one girly one (off white with light blue leather trim) and one unis_x one (black nylon/leather) for my dh and me as well. Once again my feet were puffy at the end of the day. Trying: have you decided what you're going to do medication wise during labor/delivery? I'm just starting to learn the options: epidural, pain meds tranquilizers, etc. Sann: feel better please!

Perl - I registered for a couple of diaper bags that look like backpacks thought DH might feel more comfy - I quickly discovered 1 of them is NOT big enough, but ToysRus will not take it back without receipt (it was a gift). I think it MIGHT hold 1 bottle, 2 diapers/wipes and 1 outfit. I received another bag as a gift that I think I will really like - has pockets all around the outside and is a nice taupe color (with pink interior). Will probably end up being the bag we use the most as I will be working full-time and having to take her to grandmoms or daycare.

As for pain meds - I watched the video for the epidural and "signed up" in order to receive one. I did this about 28 wks, when we were measuring 4wks ahead! I was afraid she might end up 10 lbs! I was telling my husband that I had a friend who has had 3 babies and is VERY tiny and with each she tried to make it to 6cm dilated before asking for epidural (because the chance of it slowing down labor). I have 2 other friends who both delivered 2 completely natural - one of them DEFINITELY recommends the epidural - said she had signed up but hers came too fast. Her youngest is only 9mo. The other ladies youngest is like 11 and she says I can do it natural. I am leaning more toward the one who did it recently! ha ha It is so hard to know what your tolerance is going to be and what the pain is going to be like. I think I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but just really don't know what I am getting into!! :-)

Perl - September 13

Trying: thanks for the epidural info it seems like different people have complete opposite recommendations based on their own experience. I'll be having one more cla__s on medications and anesthesia in a few weeks. I'll have to decide by then. I like your backpack as a diaper bag idea I may return one of my bags and do that instead. My appointment went well today (I posted more about it on the Nov moms thread) but I'm anemic and not happy about that except that now I know why I'm so tired most of the time. I have to go take care of my sick kitty and then I'm going to bed. TTYL

The only place around here that I found the backpack was ToysRus (a BabysRus would probably have them too)...it is pretty neat. I am taking iron as well - ferrosequels is what they put me on - is "supposed" to have stool softener included. Sorry you have a sick kitty!

tryingx3 - September 14

You've got me thinking - maybe I should research other meds as well - I couldn't get my dear husband to a birthing cla__s - so don't know my options or any breathing/relaxation techniques!

Perl - September 15

So far, the most important breathing techniques I've learned are 1) the one you should do at the peak of a contraction: two quick breaths in through your nose followed by two quick breaths out from your mouth repeat 3-5 times at each peak and 2) cleansing breath as the contraction is starting and at the end--a very deep breath through your nose that goes all the way down to your belly followed by a slow and complete exhale through your mouth. Don't know if I'll actually remember to breath this way during a contraction so I might have to write it down on something and bring to the hospital and case both dh and I forget (ha ha)--as if we'd actually remember to bring out notes. The rest is psychological stuff about envisioning yourself in a comfortable place to relax and stuff like that--I wonder if anybody actually does that?!?? (like I'm going to ignore my feelings of pain while I think of myself sitting on the sand on a beach--I'll try but. . .) Also for all other breathing place your tongue at the roof of your mouth as you inhale or else your throat will dry out.
