Problems Due To Increased Maternal Age

I want to get prenant again but I am scared to death! I will turn 40 in November. I've been pregnant 10 times (m/c),(m/c),12 yr old,(m/c),(m/c),6 yr old,(m/c),4 yr old,2 yr old,(m/c). I have had no problem getting pregnant, but staying pregnant. My Dr. thinks I have antiphospholipid syndrome and I have been able to maintain my last 2 successful pregnancies by daily Fragmin injections. I had my last miscarriage a few days before Christmas. I had a D&E and it was determined that the baby had an extra chromosome. My regular OB-GYN has not come right out and said it, but I get the definite feeling that she thinks I am too old to become pregnant again. She told me that the numbers are very real and that a 40 yr old woman has a 1 - 100 chance of having a baby born with Down Syndrome. She said that a 40 yr old woman's eggs are a lot older which makes them stickier and more apt to stick to another chromosome. I feel Extremely blessed to have 4 wonderful children, but I have such a strong desire to have just one more baby. But...I am so scared of DS. Do I now have an increased risk of having another baby with an extra chromosome or some other issue due to having previous issues and also my age?

Hi, I'm 43 and pregnant now. I have immune issues also, but if you tend to those, it's just a matter of findig the right egg. Lots of woman in their 40's have healthy babies...it's true, we miscarry more....and we have to be realistic about that, that is...a postive pregnacy test does not guarantee a baby. Good beta numbers does not guarantee a baby, even a strong heartbeat does not guarantee a baby....
I have not children and miscarried twice (before we discoverd my postive NK cells). I'm just hoping that this egg is the one good one. I say go for it!!

most downs babies are actually born to women under 30. That's what one study said. You just hear about it in women over 40 as part of the negative rap.

A 1 out of 100 chance means you have a 99% chance of a healthy, normal baby! Sounds like great odds to me!
