I am 38 and my doctor prescribed Clomid for me after a months of ttc. I just read up a bit on it (haven't filled the script yet and am just home from the doctors appointment) and am concerned about the risks with ovarian cysts. Can anyone point me to more information on the risk with cysts? My concern stems from the fact that between age 24 and 35 I have had four operations on my right ovary to remove cysts that were very large (averageing the size of a grapefruit each time) and causing extreme pain - one surgery on an emergency basis ,and one cyst completely destroyed my right fallopian tube. The OB that wrote the clomid script for me had performed 2 of my surgeries, so she is aware of my history. But I am hoping she remembered as it didn't come up in this appointment. Should i call back and question if this is the right move for me, given my history of having problems with ovarian cysts? Also, if not clomid, what are my other options? I know that I must seem quite old to still want a baby, but this is how my life turned out. I have had a great education followed by a wonderful career - I would have loved to met my husband in my 20s and married and started my family younger, but that is not that path my life ended up going on. My husband and I started trying for a baby on our wedding night and so far no luck. Am trying not to be sad or scared but it is hard. We are so ready for a family from every aspect. I am frightened about having my first pregnancy at my age, but we both are ready to take this step. if anyone has any good websites for women over 35 ttc, that would be great information as well.

olivia...any time you ovulate you run the risk of developing cysts. I too am a frequent graoefruit maker. You need to be monitored while on clomid. May I suggest you see a reproductive endocrinologist??? They are the fertility doctors and know how to control these things better. I know that some OB's consider themselves "fertility specialists" but they are nothing comapred the the reproductive guys (gals) I conceived my 1st son with clomid and had to sit out some cycles because of systs and was put on BC pills to help control them. Just afact of life. Good luck on your ttc efforts.

Hi there, I'm sorry I don't know much about Clomid, but I just wanted to say I don't think you are old for wanting a baby at 38. I am 37 and ttc #4, my desire is still there as well. I have found however it is taking MUCH longer at this age and am waiting patiently. Good luck to you and don't give up on your dream!
