I wondered if anyone has had to get over a sinus infection. i have been feeling bad for 4 days now especially at night. my ob suggested i first try Tylenol Sinus and Allergy for a few days if that doesn't work then try an antibiotic. i scared to take any medications but i know i have to get over this too. has anyone had to deal with too?

If you are considered high risk at all I'd be weary of taking any antibiotics or cold medications..But, the point is you do have to get better...I am sure you have tried other methods as well..I would just try to exhaust all natural methods first, and if your sinus infection persists then I would possibly try medications, but not without doctors supervision. Have you tried saline inhailers, Humidifiers and steaming your sinuses? I know this is basic but..if you are pregnant and i a__sume you are..the first trimester is crucial for the formining of the blue print for the baby. I would try to avoid any antibiotics or medications until you are well into your second trimester and even then it can be risky. What trimester are you in?
Good luck to you!

The way my allergies are progressing right now and given my history of sinus infection, I'm sure a sinus infection will be next for me. According to a list of safe meds I just got from my Dr., Tylenol Allergy and Sinus is safe after 13 weeks of pregnancy but not before. It may be better than an antibiotic though. My allergy specialist told me that a swim in the ocean (because of salt water) alleviates sinus infection. I've tried it and it does lessen the pain. The allergy specialist also suggested I shoot salt water up my nostrils (with a rubber bulb used to clean out baby's nose except use a new and clean one) and let it drip out of your nose into a sink and also to snort the salt water through my nose and let it drip down the back of my throat. There's a specific recipe, if you're interested I'll look for it. Ocean water up the nose and in the ears sounds like a better solution to me, if an ocean swim or snorkeling is an option for you right now. There also has to be saline nasal spray over the counter one that is not medicated that will give some relief too.

Hi Ellie, about a month or two back I started off with a cold that ended up as a sinus infection because i was not allowed to take any meds [as per my Dr]. I ended up going on amoxicillin for the sinus infection. When that was done - I ended up getting an ear infection - again antibiotics - my Dr a__sured me they are about 100% safe and have no affect on the baby. I was told not to take any OTC meds.

thank you so much for the advice. i am 13 weeks and 4 days. i went to look for Tylenol Sinus and could not find it so i spoke with the Phamacist and said to use Sudafed decongestive. not sure i will use though. i did buy some Ocean Nasal Spray and there is some relief there. so if i don't take antibiotics with the infection go away by itself. i would rather not take any medication if i don't need to. i'm 39 years old so i am considered high risk. i didn't get sick with my first child 15 years ago. things are certainly different now.

I have heard of women taking antibiotics for sinus and throat infections. If left untreated they can turn into very serious things so it is best to treat them. When I was pregnant (3 times) I was told each time not to take any type of cold medication. I know it can incrfease your blood pressure. I would be more afraid of cold meds than antibiotics.

I had a severe sinus infection and my ob/gyn warned me that it could go into my blood system and cause worse problems. Since I am allergic to amoxycillin, my primary care doctor prescribed zithromax and it worked like a charm in 5 days.
