Thinking About Having Another Little One

I am 41 (soon to be 42), and have 3 little ones. I had my first baby at 37 (who is going on 4!), second at 39, and third at 40! Now I'm seriously thinking about having another at 42. I know the more over 35 you are, the higher the risks. Before they were born, I entrusted my 3 babies to the Lord, and they are fine. I'd like to know what the pregnant (or thinking about getting pregnant) mothers over 40 think, and what your bodies are experiencing during pregnancy.

I don't think there is much of a difference between 40 and 42 for having a baby. If you trust the Lord--as you said--that is all you need. Skip all the tests they do for moms your age, enjoy your pregancy without worry. Personally, I just couldn't imagine my body going through a pregnancy at 42. But that's me. Good Luck!

Hi Franny, You are SO correct! I did trust the Lord with my 3 babies, and they are just fine. So I guess that means ----- BRING IT ON ---- # 4!! Thanks for putting me back on track. I'm looking forward to a pregnancy with no morning sickness, or other bothersome symptoms; just as the other pregnancies were!! :-)

Hi 3 babies at 41, You are my hero! How is the ttc going? What methods are you using to ttc ie basal temps OPK's, charting? Any luck yet? I am 40 ttc #2 Had my first at 39. I am a healthy person and I have had a couple of losses...One at 38 and the other a few years earlier...I also had a more recent ectopic but was given the go ahead by my doc to ttc as my tubes are all clear. Like Franny mentioned 40 and 42 there is not much difference. If you are still ovulating and menstruating regularily and you have not had any problems conceiving in the past, then you have a lot going in your favour and a very good chance conceiving. Update when you can... I would love to hear of your success!! :) Kristin

Hi Kristin, Yes, I am still ttc a 4th (well, 5th ---- my first pregnancy miscarried) child. I had my IUD removed about a couple of months ago. I used to have cycles that lasted atleast 3-5 days, now they only last about a couple of days. I also notice that it has been harder for me to tell (by the clear discharge) when I'm ovulating. Just wondering if my "mid-life change" is quickly approaching, or if it just takes awhile (after IUD removal) for my cycles to get back on track. Well, in any event ---- if I do not conceive before this month is out, I won't try to persue this desire any further. Oh, by the way, the method I am using to ttc is ---- excuse the bluntness ---- but I keep a look out for the stretchy, clear stuff (smile); it has worked for me with all 3 babies. I hope you are able to conceive, and have a healthy baby. Please let me know what method you are using, and how everything turns out. Bunny. ps. It is YOU who are my hero; you have had 3 losses, and still going for another! God bless you! You rock!!

Hello wonderful ladies! krissy68 & clindholm (colleen) ---- glad to know that you are joining me in the ttc race! Got some good news for you ladies; just found out 4/7 that I am pregnant! I am excited, ofcourse. Had a few cramps (as I did with all my babies) & a little spotting, but the doc says my hcg #s are good (rising). I'm actually about to go get my first ultrasound, in about 45 min. Wish me God's blessings! I will check back with you two wonderful souls later, to see how the ttc is going, but until then ----- many baby sprinkles to you both & to all who want the "blessing of life" over 35! Bunny

Bunny- Congrats!!! That is so wonderful. Let us know how it goes. I actually got my bfp a couple of weeks ago and am now 7 weeks. I go for another scan tomorrow afternoon and I am worried. I had alot of cramping in the very beginning and I really hope they find the heartbeat and fetal pole. I had a scan at 5 weeks and the yolk sac was all that was there, which they told me was normal. Many blessings to you, I will be checking back in to see how it went for you in the a.m.! Colleen

3_babies_at_41 - Congrats to you I can't wait to read your update wishing you the very best. I'm on cd 13 and I started bding yesterday and will continue until I get a BFP or AF. I will start to use the opk tomorrow. Can you or anyone tell me when is the best time to test?
Clindholm - Congrats to you as well. I am so happy for you also, keeping my fingers cross that they see everything they need to on the u/s. Keep us updated.
Well I guess now I don't have a buddy but I'm very happy for you both. Krissy68

Thank you Krissy, I will update when I get back this afternoon. I have read that the best time to test with opk's is early afternoon. That way you won't miss it if you start later rather than testing in the a.m. which is what I was doing. I'm sure you will be getting your bfp very soon, your body knows what to do if you have 5 !!!

Clindholm - I can't wait to read your post. I am ttcing number 5. I will test at 1pm and let you know do you have to test at the exact same time every day you are testing? How many days do I need to test? I only have 4 test and according to the instruction it said to start testing today but according to fertlity friend it said my first day of being fertile is April 25 which I wll be cd 15 and I will ovulate on April 28 and that will be cd 18 and the last day to be fertile is cd 19. You have any thoughts on this I have been bding since cd 12 I was just too tired today so I will not do anything today because after I get off the day job I have to change into my night job clothes and go to my daughters parents cheerleading meeting then head to work and I will not be off until about 3am. I will try and bd when I get off no matter how tired I am because that start the first day. Wish me luck. Krissy68

Hi Krissy- I don't think it has to be exactly the same time every day, but close so you don't miss it. I saw one of the girls on another board that was testing at work! That's dedication, I never thought of that. Are you monitoring ewcm? That should help too. I tested until I got my positive, then bd for 3 days b/c the kits said I would O in 24-23 hrs. After awhile, I knew I would get my positive cd13 and would bd 2 days before as well. This time around, I would get the big O cramp and I knew also fertility friend was right on for me which isn't always the case for some people. Do you feel the O pain? Looks like you will have a busy weekend! How do you keep up with 2 jobs like that? I would be exhausted. I can barely do my one full time and chase after my lo, you are amazing! I just got back from my scan and all looks well, they saw the fetal poly, which was not there last time and saw the heartbeat which was 153bpm, which sounds good. I am so relieved. How long have you been ttc? Where is 3_babies? I hope her doc appt went well. Mucho baby dust to you. p.s. I read that there is a 20% chance of conception for healthy couple each cycle, so really it's just working the odds, like gambling!

Clindholm - Hi I couldn't hold out any longer I just took the test and I need help. I'm at work so I just did it and this is what it look like. Okay you know their is the test line and the control line well the test line was darkest and the control was lighter. What does this mean? Krissy68

Clindholm - I am so glad your u/s went great and I can't wait to see what you are having. I have been working my night job almost 3 years now I started on my youngest daughters 1st birthday Oct 7. I am getting real tired now so I am hoping I can get my BFP and that will give me the reason to quit so I can just relax. Krissy68

If the test line is darker than the control, it's a positive!!! I know you're tired, but it's time to tag dh for the next couple of days...you get busy girl!!! Maybe this will be your month and you can ditch that night job. I had a 2nd job through my last pg and after my lo was born. They went out of business last October so one job is enough for me now. Btw, I wouldn't waste the other tests since you got your positive (unless you don't believe it). I'll check back in tomorrow am. Have a great (busy) night! Colleen
