Tubal Reveral After 16 Years Of Tubal Ligation

Hello my name is Gelena and I am 42. I had my tubes tied 16 years ago (after having 2 kids) and have been trying to get pregnant for a year now through IVF. I have had two failed IVF cycles and am in the process of trying for the third time. If this cycle fails I would like to get my tubal ligation reversed, but my doctor does not think this would be a good option for me because of the length of time since I had them tied. Is there anyone in my similar situation that has had successful results either with IVF or tubal reversal?

Hi Gelena, I had a tubal reverslal in August and am still ttc. There are a couple of threads on here where the ladies have all had tudal reversals, on the 'pregnant over 35', there is a thread which starts 36 had stubal reversal, want to start clomid, and if you go on the 'problems getting pregnant' thread there is a thread called 'HELP, ttc after a tubal reversal. (I think) A lady named Rom has had a few pregnancies after the op. Good luck and lots of baby dust.

hi gelena I have just had my tubal reversed after12 years I am 35. I have only been allowed to try since surgery 1 month and this is my 2nd I am not pg yet but very hopefull. It depends on how your tubal was done and where the tube was cut and how much is left I was never told that the length of time it had been done even mattered. We have a few of us tr ladies on the tubal reversal and want to us clomid site here maybe some of them could tell you their stories. good luck and babydust to you

I had TR beginning of July and conceived in Nov. I was told tubes were blocked on HSG back in Aug, but maybe HSG dye unblocked. So I conceived possibly in 2 months. However, I ended up m/c. Now hoping and praying to conceive again.

PS above pregnancy just happened when I wasn't trying (i'd given up because of blockage). So no drugs or anything. I'm thinking I will try the drugs soon though (injectibles).

Gelena - January 12

Thanks for your comments. Sometimes I think my doctor is not to motivated to do the TR since he is more dedicated to IVF. His diagnosis for thinking the TR would not work for me is that my tubes are "dialated" as a resulf of the 16 years since they were cut. According to him, this means my tubes will not be able to function as they should anymore because they are now too damaged.

At lease with the TR you have more chances to get pregnant are more cost effective. Furthermore, being over 40, if you add the injectible drugs and do artificial insemination you have a better chance at conceiving. Problem is being over 40, you're chances of getting pregnant at all are relatively low. Also with the TR you run the risk of a tubal pregnancy. Try another doctor. Or even if you are willing to travel a doctor that specializes in many TR. Also make sure they do an HSG to make sure your remaining tubes are open and not blocked.

oops ...at least (sp)

hi gelena i had a tubal reversal 3 years ago got pregnant 3 times 1 misscarriage and 2 ectopics last one lost my left tube and now thinking in IVF tubal reversal is not guarantee and you get so fustrated i donot recomended good luck

Gelena - January 31

Hi Janna, IVF is also very omotionally nerve wrecking. I already tried twice with no results. I was going for a third time this month but had problems with a period that didn't stop for almost a month and thus I had to stop the cycle. Now I have to wait for another month or two which is hard when time is running out. This year I will be 43. Thank you for your response, it's everything my doctor warns me about when we discuss tubal reversal.

Gelena I posted here under pdodero on Jan 12. I just wanted to let you know I am now 101/2 weeks pregnant. I had my tubes tied in june on 1994 and reversed in Oct 2006 I have had 2 u/s now and the baby is doing great! Don't give up I decided to go with the reversal as the cost of ivf was much greater DH and I are so greatful we took this route now. Good luck!

I had mine TR in March of 2006 after 14 years and I am currently 20 weeks pregnant.

Hi Lauria, Congratulations! thanks of sharing and just to update, I actually decided to do another IVF cycle which was unsuccesful agail. This was my third IVF attempt. I so glad to hear your news because just this week I had started these thoughts again. After the 3rd failed IVF attempt, I kind of put the whole thing on hold. But now I have a Dr. appt to see options. and defitnetly considering TR. May I ask how I you are?

wantanotheraftertr - November 15

Gelena, I hope you decide to do it. I am due now in 41/2 weeks with my Baby boy. I am 36 now and hope to maybe have another in a year or so so this one does not grow up alone! Sorry to hear about your failed IVF I know how discouraging it can be. Good luck to you and hope you get results soon!

Hi Gelena, I posted on the 11th Jan, I have since had 3 pregnancies (April, June and September)after tubal reversal, the third being a triplet pregnancy, I am currently 11 weeks. I sadly lost one of them in the last week or so, but the other two seem to be dong ok. I just wanted to let you know that I too was advised that IVF was the path I should take, but refused this as I felt I needed to to try without it first. My consultant refused to do the reversl op due to a previous ectopic so I went ahead and got referred to someone else. Like pam sadi (wantanother), ivf is more expensive if it does not work , so why not try the other route. As long as you know you ovulate and you dh sprem is ok, it is worth a try. Go to our thred on' problems getting pregnant 'ttc after tubal reverssal part 3, all of us ladies have had tubal reversals. Good luck.
