Okay I have a question because I don't remember from 9th grade science class... I have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes and so does everyone in my fmaily... He has red hair and blue eyes his mom is a light brown color with brown eyes and his grandmother is a red head. Does this mean it skips generations or that his traits are dominate and our child will likely have red hair... I don't care I am just trying to answer some family questions.... thanks!

I too can't remember all that well, but I think that the brown hair and eyes are the stronger of all the traits. have you tried googling it? I too am wondering about what the outcome may be! I am blond, blue eyes and dh is brown with hazel eyes. But what I am really wondering is if dimples are a trait that gets pa__sed down? He has the biggest cheek dimples and I love them and would love for bean to get them too!! Sorry I can't be much more help!!

Yea -the dark traits are always dominant - but doesn't mean the lighter colored hair or eyes won't happen. It takes 2 alike genes from each side to make a person with a non- dominant gene. So that means if you both have light haired/ light eyed people in your families than it is totally possible to have any combination- even if the gene has been dormant for generations. Hope this makes sense & helps?

even though red genes are not as common, depending on the family a red streak can come through strong. me and my husband both have dark brown hair, hubbys beard has a slight red tinge in the brown under sun light. my son was born with light blonde/red hair and i was shocked! he is now 2 and his hair went blonde to darker over time like mine. but we did some family tracking and hubbys brother's son was full redhead. and also hubbys father had a red beard with light brown hair, and his father was a full red head. so down the line it came come through but hay... unless you or hubby are full redhead i doubt you will have a child who is red head and stays it. as i said my child lost his red hair when the first lot of baby hair falls out:) about the eyes, brown is a dominate gene from what i know of but can easily go either way.

i knew someone who always took the mickey out of red heads. he was a loud mouth and would constantly make jokes about them but when he had his first son guess what he had - a bright as you like red head!! he soon stopped his remarks about them, neither him or his wife had red hair, nor their parents! i was wondering how dominant green eyes are over blue? does anyone know?
