I'm only in my 17th week and I think I already have a hemorrhoid. With my last pregnancy, right after my c-section, I was badly constipated and I got an internal hemorrhoid that caused bleeding for a few days and then went away. That I understand because of all the baby weight and pressure but I"m only in week 17 and this time it's an external one (last time I could not feel anything) and I have only gained 7 pounds so far this pregnant and it just seems too soon. I understand why I may have a hemorrhoid so soon. Does anyone know how long this could last and what over the counter creams or whatever to use to get rid of it quickly? I just don't want this to be here until week 40 and get worse.

I never got hemorrhoids with my first and am lucky enough not to have them now at 22 weeks 5 days. Aren't Tucks Medicated pads for the treatment of hemorrhoids? Or maybe I did get one and never knew what it was. What exactly is it, if you don't mind?

It seems pretty early but if you get constipated at all or even mildly so it can bring on a hemorrhoid - I had gnarly ones with my first but I got super constipated during my last couple of weeks and gained 80 pounds (wow I know) so it was awful. they are shrunk up really small and now that I am 26w 6d they get aggravated but I just use baby wipes and that helps when I poop. plus I use hemorrhoid cream - tucks pads are great but generic preparation help is great too - plus it's only like 3.00 at walmart - eat lots of fruits and veggies try to not eat stuff that will back you up.....Mandi - they are little growth-like thingys that hang from your a__s - they can be painful if not cared for - but they usually are bloody sores or anything - if you never got them then make sure you eat your fruits and veggies and you should be fine!

I got an internal hemorrhoid this pregnancy at 18 weeks. I used Preparation H cream and it really shrunk it up and helped it go away. It works great for external hemorrhoids, too, and is really soothing.

Oh and it doesn't have to do with how much weight you gain but it's due to increased blood flow making your blood vessels more swollen everywhere...

I read that they are basically like varicose veins in or around the a__s. They can itch and hurt alot. Thankfully mine wasn't that bad but I'm trying to prevent that from happening. So what Sarah said about swollen blood vessels makes sense. And Cors1wfe, I have been a little constipated. But I'm surprised because I didn't think it was that bad. I recently found out I'm anemic so I've been eating foods with iron to help with the anemia and apparently that can cause constipation. I'm eating more fruits and veggies but also taking metamucil now. Thanks Sarah, I bought the preparation H and used it a couple of days and I think the hemorrhoid may be close to gone already. My mom said never had hemorrhoids except for when she was pregnant and she got hemorrhoids with all four of her pregnancies. I guess I should be happy that this little external one is not like the bleeding internal one I had last time, it's really scary to see blood dripping from that area when you have a BM.

Yeah it is scary Perl. I freaked out and went to the Dr. and was positive it was v____al bleeding and I was so embarra__sed yet relieved. Those stupid suppositories hurt to put up there when you've got a hemorrhoid but boy do they work. I had never had a hemorrhoid except that one and I never want another!!
