I'm 20 weeks with my second son and recently I've been have relentless shortness of breath and it's getting on my nerves. I always feel out of breath and I'm constently trying to draw in a big breath to fill up my lungs...is this even normal at this stage. This baby seems average though my stomach looks more like 7 months rather then 5. I feel like this symptom is happening to early and did I mention it driving me crazy!!!!

I am only 13 weeks but my uterus is the size of 20 weeks and I am having the same problem. I also have asthma, so I am always feeling like I need my inhaler and probably taking it way to often. This summer is going to be dreadful, praying for a mild one.

Hey Liz, I feel you on this one! I'm 25 weeks, and have the same problem. I think it pretty much depends on how your carrying the baby(high or low) and not so much how far along you are. Also, remember that your intestines are all out of place at this point, moving up towards your diaphragm more every day. This is crowding things, making it hard to breathe. Something I read( and it really does help):get down on your hand and knees and slowly rock backwards and forwards, it kind of helps move the uterus away from everything else, and helps relieve the pressure on your diaphragm. Good luck!

Liz/Steph,Kim, I feel exactly the same. I feel my placenta is lying low which makes it very difficult for me to walk or even stand up at times. And when I walk a bit, I get out of breadth I wonder how it will be in the next few weeks. I am 20 weeks tomorrow and already feel like I am going to pop soon.

I've got the same problem at 15 weeks! I never went through this with my first pregnancy but I get out of breath just walking across the room with this one.

This is one of my biggest complaints! Sometimes I have to put my arms above my head when I'm just reading on the couch because I become very suddenly short of breath--as if there isn't room enough for my lungs in there! Very scary feeling. And I'm only 19 weeks!

I hear ys girls and this is driving my crazy..I feel like I an't even relaxx becuase I'm always consintrating on breathing. My doc says if I can talk about not being able to breath then I am getting enough oxygen but I still feel paniced at my breathless ness sometimes...especially walking up stairs, outside or carrying my son around the house.

Me too! You are not alone. I have a hard time breathing too. I am 19 weeks and barely showing... but throughout the day there are times where I can barely breathe. I try to take a deep breath to fill up my lungs, but it doesn't help. Sometimes especially in the morning I get light headed. I have read that because our bodies produce 50% more blood when we are prego that our heart has to work really hard. As a result we sometimes feel like we aren't getting enough oxygen. Regardless of science... it drives me crazy and I feel so out of shape walking up my stairs!!!!

Your heart is also pumpung double your blood volume through your body now. With all that extra work sometimes you feel like you need to take extra breaths, or like your not getting enough air. Sometimes even stepping outside for a little fresh air helps a little also.

I just found out my shortness of breath is due to the onset of anemia my pregnancy has caused.

I feel my husband resents the fact that i am always ot of breathe and unable to keep up. It is so hard with my other 4 children, lol. I feel so badly that i cant do anything, including walking at all pert near. will this end soon or do you think i have to wait till the baby comes?

Hi BJM- I honestly can't tell you if the shortness of breath will get much better because as your baby grows bigger it will tend to put more pressure on your insides making it harder to breathe easier. Just remember you are older now than your other pregnancies so it is normal for this one to be different than the others. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with my 4th child (3rd pregnancy though- I have 1 adopted) and this has been by far the most difficult pregnancy and the highest risk. My youngest daughter is only 20 months old and I had a relatively easy pregnancy with her. However this one has been horrible and I am always weak and I can't keep up with my husband, I can barely make it up the stairs in our house without sounding like I ran a 50 mile marathon. Don't feel bad, it's not you and in the end your precious baby is well worth it as you know =) Have a great day!
