My doctor called me this morning and told me that I have gestational diabetes. I am completely freaking out. I feel like the worst person in the world and that I am a horrible mother. I feel very overwhelmed in terms of how I am going to manage it all. I know there will be restrictions on what I can eat, but I already feel restricted since certain foods turn my stomach. I really don't want to hurt the baby or cause complications during labor. Can anyone help with any advice? thanks again!!!!

I am soo sorry. As if just being pregnant isnt enough :} But dont worry. You are not a bad mother. Just be sure to follow the restrictions the Dr gives you and maintain a healthy diet and everything will be fine. I know it is hard with the picky stomach, but honestly you will feel better and most likely have more energy once you have changed you eating habits. I was borderline for GD with my first baby and after changing my diet things were fine and I felt GREAT! I did kinda get bored of the same foods, cause I am picky anyway, then really picky when pregnant! Just remember it isnt your fault! You are a good mother, your worry and concern shows that. And you are NOT alone! It is very commen in pregnancy :) Take care

Right - it's not your fault! Don't stress about it - it happens to lots of women and has to do with how our bodies react in pregnancy. :)

They are right, it is totally not your fault. I'm actually researching GD to write an essay for school. It has to do with the hormones produced during pregnancy. The hormones don't allow for the normal break down of insulin. From what I'm researching there really isn't a whole lot you can do to prevent it. As long as you eat healthy you and your baby will be fine!!
