I had my Level 2 ultrasound today. I am 17 weeks and 4 days as of today. My doc told me that everything looked normal, but they cudnt see the left atrium clearly, so he has referred me to a fetal echo at 22 weeks. Has this happened to anyone else? or know abt it. Thanks for ur inputs.

Yes, at 19 weeks they couldnt see my beans heart well either. After 20 weeks the four chambers of the heart are more easily visible. Don't worry, chances are in your favor that everything is A-OK!

thanks krissy2006. Actually, i just figured out that what i had yesterday was a level 1 ultrasound, and the doc has asked me to get a level 2 US, and if still the atrium is not visible clearly, then go in for fetal echo. is 17 weeks too early for things like this to show up on level 1 ultrasound? If so, why wud my doc schedule me for it at this time?

Normally the level II echos are done between 18-20 weeks. Where do u live? The bigger the baby gets the stronger the heart gets and the bigger, so the further you are with this next u/s is when they will best see the heart and all its glory. If you are in the USA I am not sure why the dr. would schedule you for a fetal scan so early. If you are not, there may be medical practices or procedures I am not aware of. Please do discuss this with your dr. S/he should be able to give you answers and if they can't you should be seeking a new one. GL!

I do live in the US. The one i jsut had was a level one Ultrasound. I guess the doc is going on a vacation for a month, which is why she scheduled me so early. I have scheduled my level 2 US at after 19 weeks so lets see.
