I'm in my 27th (or so) week. I'm having cramp-like aching in my hips and lower abdomen. It's lasted about an hour and seems to be going away. Is this normal? If so, what is it?

If anyone out there knows, I would like to find out too. I am in my 27th week also, and last night I felt what was like menstrual cramps. I feel fine so far today, so hopefully it was just muscles stretching. My sister said that as you enter another trimester the muscles are stretching and you can feel more pain. I hope that's all it was.

If you change positions and it goes away, it could be Braxton Hicks (practice contractions) and they're quite normal, they usually start around 28 wks or so. Real contractions do not go away when you completely change positions or eat/drink something as is often the case with Braxton Hicks.
It could also be just some more of those "growing pains" as muscles and ligaments stretch and the weight begins to take a toll on your lower back and pelvic area.
As always, if you're concerned, ask your caregiver/doctor. Someone else can give you an idea of what it may be (if it's normal and part of most pregancies) but only a doctor/caregiver can predict a real medical problem.
