I have to enter a malaria area in the second trimester of my pregnancy. Is there anything I can take to prevent risking malaria?

I know there are Malaria pills to take but don't take them at all unless your Dr. says they are safe to take. I myself, wouldn't take any drugs at all and stay away from any places with Malaria if I can help it.
