I had an appointment/ultrasound with a Perinatologist today (due to my age-35 years) and although everything looked great, he would like me to start giving myself progesterone shots because my last baby (she's 7 1/2 years now) came 5.5 weeks early. I am currently 18w2d. Anyone have any experience with this?

I took progesterone shots with my second (she's 2 now) because my first (he's 7 now) was 8 weeks early. I took them weekly from about 16 weeks to about 35 weeks (those are rough estimates going off memory) and I carried my daughter to 37 weeks 1 day! My son was born early due to a placental abrupion, but we don't know why that developed so the progesterone shots were just for extra measure. My husband had to give me the shots because I couldn't reach around to my backside where I had to have them. I think they were 10 times harder on DH than me. I was so afraid of my first one, but it ended up being a lot less painful than I feared so I didn't think they were too bad. My best suggestion is to stand up and put all your weight on the leg that's opposite to the b___t cheek that's being stuck. That'll help keep the muscle loose. In 20-some odd shots, I only had one that made me go "holy ...!!!". DH must have hit a random nerve or something. Otherwise, they were fine. Good luck!!!

Thanks Buffi for the reply. I started the shots three weeks ago with no ill side effects...thank goodness! I, too, was pretty nervous for the first one because the nurse described the shot as not a very great one to get or give. I go in weekly for the shots and the nurse administers them, which is nice. I think my husband would find it difficult to do. I believe my last child (she is 7) was born early because I was under tremendous stress, going through a separation/divorce at the time. So I am also taking the shots as an extra measure. Thanks again!
