JMP - May 25

Hey Guys sorry it's been so long just so much going on! WELL the baby is very active I love it! He's all over the place, haven't really felt him from the outside but I feel him inside all the time! My poor BF feels so left out since he can't feel the baby yet LOL..I really am comfortable pregnant right now but it's really unfortunate that I'm on bed rest. I'm very active and this has been very difficult! Just goes to show that even though you are young doesn't guarantee anything. They caught my short cervix at 19w3d and today I'm 22 weeks today and still on bed rest. My cervix has maintained the same length over the past 3 weeks and my last sonogram on Thursday was 2.3 (the same) with no signs of funneling or anything. SO since they've seen me every week and it's been constant they want to see me again in two weeks to make sure everything is okay. I have to go back June 5 when I'll be 23w3d and check again and I'm praying that it's the same. I'm constantly nervous and found that this experience has taken all the fun out of being pregnant I'm always worried if every pull or stretch or pressure is a bad thing. On a lighter note it will all be worth it in the end and I hope to keep him in there as long as possible even if that means total bed rest! I put a new picture of him up from our level 2 doesn't he look beautiful!!

Hi everybody. I wanted to give you all an update sooner than this, but it has been so crazy at work. Anyway, the last time I wrote, I was pretty devastated by a clubfoot diagnosis. Even thought it is treatable, we all want our babies to be perfect! I so appreciate everybody’s kind words, though… it meant so much. One this I didn’t relay in my other post is how totally AWFUL the whole appointment was. This was my 2nd level 2 ultrasound and my husband’s very first appointment that he was able to attend. After waiting 1 ½ hours past my appointment time, we had a very rushed set of pictures with the technician – not a peep from her. My poor husband kept trying to ask, “what are we seeing now?” Anyway, the way it works in this office, is while the tech is taking the pictures and measurement, the dr. is reviewing from another room and then comes in. So he waltzes in towards the end and talks with the tech for a few minutes (we are RIGHT THERE – he didn’t address us at all at first) and then turns and says, “I think it’s club foot” We were so dazed/confused, etc. He didn’t explain anything, or show us on the ultrasound – nothing. My husband started peppering him with questions, and the doctor said to him, “you look like a man who doesn’t trust.” O.M.G. We were a little flabbergasted and as this dr. was leaving, my husband turned to me and said, “I guess we’ll talk to Dr. M (my regular OB) about this.” The perinatalogist turned and said, “Dr. M doesn’t know what I know.” Needless to say, it was a very bizarre experience/appointment. This all happened on a Thursday. The next day, I called my dr.’s office to tell them I was so confused, hurt, upset by our level of care at the “specialist’s” office and his nonchalant att_tude towards us when we got a diagnosis of a birth defect. This was a difficult phone call -- I hate to ever complain and generaly won't even send cold food back in a restaurant. The nurse insisted I come in and talk to my OB the following Monday. Of course, when I arrived on Monday, the perinatalogist had not sent over the report yet. He sympathized with me and said that even though his bedside manner was horrible, he does trust his judgment. My husband, though, basically said that he wanted another opinion and at least go to an office that would give us the care we feel like we deserve. My doctor agreed to give us another referral. So, the following Thursday, we were able to get into an excellent Dr. at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando (about and hour away from us). Our experience was night and day to the last one. She explained that there are 3 reasons why it is difficult to get good pictures on the baby. 1) my uterus is a funny shape, 2) I have a anterior placenta, 3) the baby’s position. BUT, the dr. did not give up. She was actually able to get really excellent pictures with an internal ultrasound and, guess what???? PERFECT FEET! I will go back in a month see this doctor again. Something else to stress about because of my funny uterus – she was originally concerned about the level of fluid around the baby – and said that can constrain the baby’s movements. But, but the end of the appointment, the baby moved so much, she said she was very pleased. Because of my placenta being in the way, and the size of the baby at the time (20 weeks 6 days) she wanted to get better pictures of the brain – which is why I have to go back in a month… but she also said she wasn’t concerned about that. Anyway…. I’m going on and on, I just wanted to share my relief with all of you! Of course, I have this teeny part of me that says, I’ll believe she’s healthy, normal, etc. when I see her, but we are so relieved. Angry, too, at the other doctor. Why didn’t he try to get better pictures? I remember him commenting that it was a difficult angle to see, but he still diagnosed “bilateral clubfeet” on the report to my doctor. JMP – I’ve been thinking about you as well. You stay resting! I know it must be so hard…but it seems to be working with your cervix staying the same length. Thanks for listening, ladies! :-)

Cdnbrd - May 27

Hi everyone! JMP, great to hear that your little guy is so active and that your cervix is staying the same length. If you go back in two weeks and its the same, does that mean its your anatomy and you get off bedrest? I understand it must be hard. I go to a game site (pogo.com)when I am bored. It is pretty fun and has a lot of nice people on it, it may help distract you for a little bit. I saw his picture, he does indeed look beautiful! Flrores, GREAT NEWS about your little one's feet! You and your husband must be so relieved. What a horrible experience you had! Sounds like the doctor had a "God" complex. I think some of them think they are so knowledgeable that you should feel lucky just to have a few minutes of their precious time. I can't believe he and the tech brushed off your questions - my tech (who was the same tech for my sons 13 years ago, what a coincidence) explained everything as she scanned and patiently answered all of my neurotic questions. I googled low placenta, so of course I am now petrified that I will spontaneously start to bleed and hemmorhage, even though the tech told me it was only a little low. Thank goodness I have my dr.'s appt. tomorrow, so I will ask her about it then. So, has anyone picked out nursery themes? I am going with light lilac and cream, with a b___terly theme. I think I will only decorate after she is born, because I want to paint myself and am a little nervous about doing it while pregnant. Our babies stayed in our room with us for the first couple months anyhow. I live in Canada, so I get a year off of work, it'll give me something to do, lol. Great to hear your updates, keep them coming! All the best to everyone.

flroses - crazy story! I don't get the "bedside" manner of some people out there! I had a perinatologist call a miscarried child - still "ripe" when I was getting ready for a d/c. I had JUST found out in his office (after waiting 1.5 hours) that the baby's heartbeat had stopped sometime in the last 48 hours... Obviously, I refused to use him again! So glad to hear that all is looking good upon closer examination. I am doing fine - far as I know. I have some swelling in my legs, but I don't guess the pizza I had for lunch is going to help that!!!

Cdnbrd - May 30

Hi all, What do you mean the pizza won't help...pizza cures all! I don't have any swelling (yet) but I do have a beautiful varicose vein on my left leg. Wow, Flroses, your nursery sounds darling. I have a vague idea in my head; you have yours all ready! Even my oldest son asked me yesterday if I shouldn't be buying some baby stuff and getting ready...I have one baby sleeper I got at work (The company I work for owns a chain of maternity stores, and as part of a promotion they made newborn sleepers for Mother's Day that say "Moms Rock" and they gave one to all the pregnant employees). That is absolutely all I have so far, lol. Went for my doctor's appointment and all is well. She says she is not worried at all about my placenta, that it is normal for a lot of women at this stage; so I have decided not to worry about it either. I don't have to go for my glucose test for quite a while, they only do it at around 28 weeks here. I remember drinking a super sweet orange drink that I rather liked. Hope everyone is doing well!

Kristin72 - June 4

Hello Septmeber Mommies! I have been back for a week from San Diego but dh has been using the laptop so I have not had alot of time to log in. I am doing well. Feeling good..getting bigger. I will be 27 weeks on Saturday. I have my OB monthly next Wednesday. Nothing much to report. HAd a great time in San Diego. Was in a minor car crash before I left..I was side swiped by a dump truck.. more ha__sle than anything. Just glad my lo was not hurt, nor my baby. I think we are rapidly approaching our third trimester I guess that starts around 28 weeks..so from what I understand the honeymoon stage is almost over. Not looking too forward to the long heat of summer and pregnancy. My dh injured his neck and has been avoiding heavy lifting.. so the furniture and bookshelves I wanted him to move out of the office for the new baby room is on the wayside. I am eager to get this over with so I can feel sane. I want to paint my 2year olds room too as well as the new baby room. Other than that not too much to report. I am just thankful this pregnancy is going well so far..I thank my lucky stars everyday for that. I hope everyone else is doing well. Talk to you all soon!! :)

flroses1120 - June 5

Hi everybody - Random bleeding. That's what I had at about 4:00 am this morning. Of course, I panicked and couldn't find the nurse-line phone number, so I went on in to the ER. They admitted me right away and hooked me up to the monitor. Baby's heart was strong and good. They paged my docter and he ordered an ultrasound to rule-out an abruption. Ultrasound was fine -- no problem with cervix or placenta and the fluid looked good. Baby is measuring exactly 25 weeks -- which is what I am today. Dr. basically said "there's no telling" and to take it easy today and drink lot's of fluid. Also, there hasn't been more bleeding. I felt super bad, but they were nice at the hospital and told me that it's never bad to check on bleeding. Weird, huh? Hope everybody is doing well...

Kristin72 - June 6

Hey Flroses, Sorry to hear about your bleeding. I am just glad it has stopped. You are right it is never bad to check on bleeding or anything else that may have you wondering what is going on. I am just thankful that everything seems to be ok. I think that is good advice to remain hydrated. Being dehydrated can cause a uterus to contract..I guess that is why they have suggested drinking lots of fluids. What is your due date again? I think you are just about a week behind me. I am suppose to be Sept 12th but then I was told Sept 7th. My Ob still said I should go by the 12th. I am 26 weeks or in my 27th week. I get confused myself sometimes because 2 websites tell me two different weeks. I have been super clumsy lately dropping things, breaking things, and i am finding it more difficult to get out of a car. But other than that I feel pretty good..can't complain. I have my OB app Weds..and I am sure I will be set up for my gluclose screening which I guess is to be done around 28 weeks. I am considering doing a 3D ultrasound just to get a peak at the baby (I also did this with my first child)..so amazing if you can get the right shots. Well I am just outside in my backyard soaking up some rays..have an engagement party to go to at 4pm. Have a great weekend everybody..update when you can!!

JMP - June 7

Hi Guys! I made it to the 24th week mark! Officially 6 months now! Thank you guys for all sweet thoughts! I just went and had a sonogram on Friday-My cervix is the same, no change..Unfortunately they still have me on bed rest (well moderate bed rest). I feel awful for my BF sometimes I'm just so upset over the situation and really take it out on him and he's just so wonderful about this situation I feel horrible about it. BUT-Thankfully my cervix has been maintaining the same length! On the flip side, I've been feeling the baby so so much he is so active! SO ACTIVE that I'm worried he's not going to let me sleep once he's born! LOL! I'm a little upset over the bed rest but I'm really trying to make it better I'm just not sure how =/ I think we have the baby room decor all picked out-we were looking at munire for cribs-very expensive but the quality is outstanding! - I have another sonogram June 18th to check the cervix again (a plus to this is I get to see my little moomoo every two weeks I love it!) Is anyone finding it uncomfortable to be pregnant in the hot weather? Also- Does anyone sometimes get down a little when everyone is hanging out drinking a few beers? lol I have found that I miss doing that over the summer! My BF bought me a pack of O'Douls as a joke LOL very funny! Cdnbrd-Thanks for the game website, I find it's a lot of fun!! lol flroses-I'm glad that the bleeding has stopped-I would have been very neurotic over it and I can't imagine what that must have been like very scary I'm sure! My thoughts are with you I'm sure it's perfectly fine!! How is everyone else doing?? My birthday is this month can't wait for the 22nd!! woohoo!!

Cdnbrd - June 8

Hi everyone! Glad to hear your updates! Flroses, the bleeding must have been so scary! I would have gone straight to the hospital too. They would have seen if there was something wrong, so I am sure all is well. As Kristin said, keep hydrated and rest as much as you can. JMP - so glad to hear that you are doing well and that your cervix is the same length. (Isn't is weird how pregnancy makes us all so open about our bodies? When else would I congratulate someone about their cervix??) So sorry to hear that you are still on bed rest - do they know when they will let you up or do you think you will be on for the rest of the pregnancy? I can understand that you must get quite bored and a little irritable. There will come a day after your little bun is born when you are sitting up, exhausted, at 3 am because he can't tell time and will look back at the rest fondly...lol. It hasn't been too hot here, so the heat isn't bothering me yet. Usually I hate air conditioning (my dh thinks that you should have it so cold that you need to wear a sweater or a parka) but I will put it on at the first sign of hot. I reached 6 months last Friday, hooray! Baby is super active on some days, quieter on others. Either way I worry, lol. The kicks are getting stronger, but so far no one else has felt her. She still stops moving the minute someone else puts their hand on my belly. My oldest boy has tried sneaking up on her (not even telling me that he's going to try to feel her) but that hasn't worked either. I can't wait until she is born; I know what kind of boys my dh and I make, but I can't wait to see how we do with a girl!! I don't miss having a drink, but I do miss my other vices...in the hospital after I give birth I plan on drinking a large expresso, eating some sushi and a large hunk of brie cheese. Hope you all continue to do well! Take care.

JMP - June 19

Hi guys- I just wanted to update everyone. I had another sonogram done today (still going once every two weeks) and my cervix is staying the same-no change woohoo! LOL..I'm all confused I feel like I was just getting used to and accepting bed rest and now the doctor is like well you can probably go back to life again! LOL..Life? yeah right I can't wake up with out having a nap at 12..I don't know what's going on either with this weather but I'm so congested! Anyone else? My nose bleeds every time I sneeze! LOL..I feel so exhausted, it's tough to believe I'm only going to get bigger!! My BF is so happy that everything is okay and I was really happy too-he was like this is great you can do whatever you want now! lol I really wanted to turn around and be like yeah okay I can't walk up the stairs without wanting to nap lol-I guess I'm going to have to slowly get back to life again. OR at least I'm gonna try! I wish I could have stayed active for the whole pregnancy!! Did anyone sign up for cla__ses yet? My mom really wants us to sign up for the Bradley method? lol I have no idea! I think we're also going to register tomorrow! Any ideas about what we might need? We're so lost (Obviously 1st timers!! lol) Okay ladies hope all is well thanks for all your prayers they must have worked! xoxo give us some updates !!

JMP - June 19
