Sara I posted a reply earlier. I asked you about the funneling (not sure if you remembered). I would ask your doctor again about a cerclage. While I was in the hospital at 23 weeks, my doctor had me see 2 high risk maternity doctors. The 3 of them put their heads together as far as giving their opinions on the cerclage. Ultimately, the decision was mine. I was given all the risks and benefits of having a cerclage placed as well as the risks and benefits of not getting one placed. The major risk of having the cerclage was the possibility of her membranes (bag of water being ruptured) and having her delivered in the OR during the procedure. I opted to have the cerclage placed as even if things went horribly wrong, I wanted to know that I had done all that I could to try to give her a fighting chance. I honestly think that was the best decision we ever made! My little girl made it just fine through the surgery, and I'm currently 33 weeks along. I was admitted back to the hospital 3 weeks after the surgery as the funneling is still continuing, but my doctor said there's no way I would have made it this far without the cerclage and strict bedrest. When I was admitted the 2nd time, the doctors didn't expect me to make it to 28 weeks. I only share my story to give hope and to encourage you to get a 2nd opinion. Most doctors don't want to perform an emergent (late) cerclage due to the risks. Perhaps that's why your doctor is advising against. Good luck to you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

hi jairia- i find this really hard b/c so many people think I should get a cerclage and my docs don't. I have asked and they were really hesitant being that I am so short. I woul dbe scared to death having to go into surgery to get it done. I actually feel very confident right now- but I am so early only 21wks 4 days. It will be a miracle if I get this baby to term. I might ask again depending on my next u/s. but being in the hospital- i have the world at a push of a b___ton if anything feels wrong. as much as I hate being in here- I don't know now if I would chance going home without a cerclage. i am in a dreadful waiting game, but am trusting those that are taking care of me so far-- I pary for the best for you-- good job getting so far along. I just want to make it to where she will live- whatever it takes!

Hi again everyone- just thought i would update since it has been a while--I am 25w1d now and still pregnant!!! in the hospital, my cervix shortened to 1.3cm but stayed stable and they sent me home after 2 weeks. I have been at home for 2 1/2 weeks now with regular u/s checks. at first I lengthened to 1.9 cm and then back down to 1.6 cm (but 1.3 "funneling" with pressure) it's a rollercoaster! I am going back in tomorrow for my next scan and they are also going to do the ffn test to see if I am close to going into labor. I have been feeling great without contractions, so hopefully this constant laying down is paying off! I just definitely do not wan tto go back in the hospital!!! I know it is safe there, but also like 10 times more stressful on me!!! How are all of you doing??? any updates would be more than welcome!
