I knwo there is differing opinions on sleeping on your back. I am 23w(on wed) and no matter what I try I end up on my back. I have a snoogle that I wedge in front of me and a couple normal pillows that I wedge behind me, but yet I seem to push them all away and end up on my back. Is this really bad? Any suggestions on what else to try??Thanks!

hey sb200, i always end up on my back and i did with my other 2 pregnancies too. and they are perfectly healthy. it might make ur hips achy when u first get up, but i;ve always been told you'll wake urself up before you do anything to harm the u or the baby. I wouldn't worry! :)

That's what I was thinking to Cnas, that my body would move itself if it was doing any damage, I just wanted to be sure. I would hate to be depriving her of anything if I could somehow prevent it. I am actually most comfortable on my back, so if it is not doing any harm, that makes me a lot more relaxed about it. Thanks for posting!

Hey stranger! I am the same way. Every morning I wake up and I'm on my back. I'm like, oh c___p and quickly get on my side. I hate sleeping on my side. Since my uterus isn't that heavy right now, I don't sweat it too much. I think when (and if ever at the rate I'm going) your belly gets really big like 3rd trimester big, then you might try to be more conscience about it.

Thanks Ekay - taht is what I am kind of resigning myself too as well. It is just so much more comfy to be on my back all stretched out. Which is so weird, since before I got preggers I was a curled up on my side sleeper, but now, oh no... gotta be stretched out like a bloody starfish!! Good thing hubby isn't home all that much to have to share the bed with!!

so glad to read this post. i too wind up on my back ( the irony is that shortly before i became pregnant i HATED it, but had to train myself due to a bad neck and the fact that i was a tummy sleeper and it was terrible for the neck) i am 20 weeks and certainly look and feel it....i hate sleeping on my sides right now and my hips hurt during the night and when i wake up. i wake up at least once a night on my back, but am so comfy and it really bums me out to have to move :(. its weird, i never wake up short of breath or anything on the times that i wake on my back, but more often then not, if i lay down on the bed or couch on my back ( when i am awake) i have to roll because i cannot catch my breath..... weird.

as ive read in my pregnancy book "Dont lie on your back when you sleep. As your uterus ets larger, lying on your back can place the uterus on top of important blood vesses that run down the back of your abdomen. this can decrease the circulation to your baby and parts of your body" this is a week by week pregnancy book that i have and that was mentioned starting in week 15. any other questions i got the book feel free to ask!! GL
