Generally you should try to start sleeping on your side ASAP so you get use to it. But it can become a health hazard after 4 months.

I've been trying to sleep on my sides, especially my left side but in the middle night I get really bad side pains, then I give in and sleep on my back. Do you think those pregnancy pillows can help?

I'm 16 wks and still sleep on my stomach. Is this safe? I'm not a back sleeper at all. I sleep comfortably but wake up a lot having to pee! Probably from the pressure.

My doctor told me that the left side is best, the right side is good and the stomach is ok ( but you wont be able to once your belly grows a lot) I have always been a back sleeper, so this is something I made sure I asked him about. I am 18 weeks and I have a really hard time not sleeping on may back. one thing that works really well for me is to wedge a pillow behind me when I go to bed, that way, if you try to roll to your back while your sleeping, you cant cause the pillow is there. Maybe try that to see if it works.

I am 17 weeks and most of the time find comfort on my back! Is this really bad I never heard this.......If so Why?

I'm normally a back or stomach sleeper - I'm 16 weeks. When I sleep on my right side too much (my next favorite position) I am starting to wake up with my leg asleep. I found this quote regarding the back on this website... "Pregnant women are commonly advised against sleeping on their backs once they reach the 2-3 month period. This is because of the weight of the baby and uterus can compress the inferior vena caver, which takes blood from your lower body to the heart, which may cause dizziness, sweaty and have palpitations."

FROM WHAT I KNOW DRS DONT RECOMMEND WOMEN WHO ARE OVER 20 WEEKS PREGNANT TO SLEEP ON THEIR BACKS BECAUSE IT BLOCKS OFF ON OF THE MAJOR NERVES THAT SUPPLY THE BLOOD TO YOUR BABY. ITS NOT A HEALTH HAZZARD, JUST ADIVISED AGAINST. IF YOUR CONCERNED THE PUT A PILLOW BEHIND YOUR BACK SO THAT YOU ARENT COMPLETELY ON YOUR BACK. I KNOW THAT IT CAN BE TOTALY UNCOMFORTABLE CAUSE I HAVE BEEN ON BED REST FOR A MONTH NOW AND WILL BE UNTIL THE END OF MY PREGNANCY IN AUG. SO I HAVE ASKED ALL THOUSE BEST WAY TO LAY QUESTIOND TO MY DR AND HAVE REALIZED THAT PILLOWS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND

Hmmmm.....never heard any of this before so thanks to all. Kinda wierd bc I too am a stomach and side sleeper it was'nt until a couple of weeks ago that I would awaken and be lying on my back! I thought it was strange bc I hate sleeping on my back! I thought it was comfy for baby so I will use the pillow behind me not to roll onto my back! Thanks again ~Steph

I do have one of those pregnancy pillows and they do work, they support your head plus you can place the pillow between your knees, wow that's a comfort, although it is sometimes hard to pull the covers up, cuz it gets stuck but worth it.
